And honestly, given how easily DK's enslave the dead, Sylvanas going to all this trouble when she has Death Knights under her command is honestly pretty solid proof that she not only can't, but won't enslave someone's mind with necromancy.

1. Death Knights are the most powerful hero units the Lich King fields. Full stop.
2. Banshees are not.
3. Just because she chose to break Derek does not mean that she cannot MC him.
4. Sylvanas has enslaved skellingtons.
5. Lilian Voss implies that Sylvanas has enslaved her.

But she has the entire Horde's worth of Death Knights to choose from and that includes Minerva Ravensorrow, who is basically DeathIsFinal. She's as down for the monster mash as I am (God what fun we had in Legion together...). Sylvanas absolutely has the power of the Death Knights at her command, she doesn't need to rely on Banshee power for this.

The fact that she chooses to use torture for this instead of easily accessible mind control is a bit of a stretch, given she has no qualms going to easy, awful solutions for everything else. I mean, let's say that she can MC him but isn't doing so... isn't this the time when she would be most motivated to use that power? Hell, they even changed the PTR so she doesn't even Mind Control Tyrande, instead it's an 'Umbral Binding'. And isn't #3 kind of my point, anyway? I mean, she commands Death Knights - she *can* MC him, so she must be choosing not to. Her not doing so is a choice.

As for the skeletons thing, I think that's more like Umbric raising the Void Rex. She's animating a corpse. When you interact with a DK minion, they can croak out words and they have this real twitchy thing going on. Skeletons are basically golems. She needs the Val'kyr to raise actual undead, and still does, so her ability to animate some bones seems consistent with that. Alternatively, we can view it that she *can* raise the skeletons, but they are not mind controlled - after all, they attack both Horde and Alliance with impunity. Your theory about her using them to hide something in Undercity is, you must admit, highly tenuous - it seems far mote likely that they are free, 'berserk' undead. The alternative is to go against established word of god about this and blatant efforts to support that assertion with the most recent PTR changes - Blizzard is putting their money (literally, with man hours for reworks) where their mouth is on this free will thing.

And Lilian Voss implies she was coerced. Not enslaved. If she was magically controlled she wouldn't be allowed go around implying she was coerced, that's for damn sure.
