Well that was certain one of my top predictions what with Turaylon and Anduin going to Silvermoon. Funny how Genn is effectively top dog of the Alliance considering his less then stellar original relationship to it.

Anduin stated in Before the Storm that if anything happened to him Genn would be heir to Stormwind Kingdom.
Turalyon is Regent while Genn is Heir Apparent therefore it is fitting that the Regent lets him take the reigns every now and then.
The second snippet from that tweet is interesting.
And by interesting, I mean it doesnât much much more heavy handed than that.
âArator used to train with Lorâthemar and get advice from Liadrin ALL the time when Vereesa brought him to QuelâThalas as a child.â
Theyâre REALLY trying hard to push him as a Blood Elf character. I donât know how Horde players are supposed to feel about this, but I predict, ânot happy.â
Turalyon went quiet for a moment. âWar is never without its costs,â he said. âAnd everyone is affected differently by it. Anduin was wise to realize he would best serve his people by stepping away for a time, and he made sure his kingdom would be protected while he did so. It took courage and faith to do that, and I respect him all the more.â
Pretty funny how Thrall was more or less framed as a coward for stepping away from Horde leadership and retiring to Outland (âDO YOU KNOW WHAT SHEâS DONE WHILE YOUâVE BEEN HIDIIIINGâ), but when Anduin does the exact same thing itâs actually awesome and something only a True Leader would do.
Oh well. Is anyone surprised ?
Iâm actually fine with it, Silvermoon is unique in that it essentially switched sides and also Arator is a pretty blank slate. So if they want to do the dirty work of connecting him with QuelâThalas it would go a long way in providing context of why heâs living there now and why he didnât participate in the 4th war. I donât think it would be fair to hate on this right now since a duel citizen story is new for warcraft and could be interesting.
I just hope they use this opportunity to make Anduin take a bathâŚand shave.
I donât entirely disagree, but there is a bit of a difference in that, Turalyon didnât start a war to kill as many Horde and Alliance as possible to fuel the super-light-hell machine or something so Xeâra can open the way to Zereth Illuminati and steal the power of the True First Ones, whom are older than the First Ones and created them and are way more powerful and awesome and cool.
Thatâs a refreshing take, but Iâve seen far too many players unhappy about, âan Alliance character being shoved down our throats in the supposed Horde expansion.â
Because as much people complain about it, itâs true. Itâs exactly what is happening. The horde isnât allowed to have its own heroes, they all must be alliance aligned to one degree or another.
And god forbid the horde be allowed to stand on its own and be heroes in their own story
Iâm not arguing that. Blizzard has done a terrible job developing the Horde after BFA. Weâve seen no new characters, no real developments, nothing. Itâs few existing characters donât fit in to the narratives weâre getting well enough that Blizzard uses them, and they REFUSE to reshape the narrative enough to make any Horde characters fit in.
My point was, I donât know how Horde players are going to feel about Arator being retconned into a psuedo-Horde character by suggesting Lorâthemar and Liadrin are a second sets of parents or something.
Yet
I donât disagree with this sentiment. Calia and Tandred, Might as well throw Baine in there. All feel like Alliance puppets. The Horde roster being generally decimated has created a significant amount of story debt that is coming due and has created this negative feeling in the community. I personally donât believe Arator is a symptom of this because of the complicated history but I feel that story debt is coloring the perception of this story line in a more negative light than is deserved.
Man, no wonder Genn dumped rebuilding Gilneas on his daughter, he lucked his way into ruling Stormwind. Guy really knows how to fall upwards.
I hate it because Salandria was right there at the ready or any actual Blood Elf, any actual Horde character.
It still frustrates me to no end that theyâve made all these extreme changes to the Horde and then donât develop the characters that they left us with.
And I feel like this story is being written for Blizzard only. Because it hasnât been enjoyable for many. Especially since BFA.
Arator feels like another Calia, and they already knew a lot of Horde didnât like that. Why not learn their lesson?
Especially since Liadrin already has an adoptive daughter who is a Paladin who could have fit the story better. They even brought her in for the SL BE Pally quests.
Arator out of left field makes no sense. And it feels like Horde is never gonna be allowed out of sidekick status until these writers leave.
Thatâs because they never did anything with him.
This is a consistent issue with Blizzardâs writing. They fail to properly set up threads for new stories in the future. Arator has been gathering dust since he was introduced in BC, brought out for Legion, and then shut away again until now.
When you look at him objectively, he SHOULD be a fascinating character. Heâs the son of two prominent heroes whom saved the planet decades ago, who never knew his parents but did know their legacy, and whom potentially never completely belonged in either a human or elven society. Of course, that last bit current Blizzard would never explore. Racism? In their modern video game?!
The problem is now that theyâve finally decided to use him, they need to build up a backstory that couldâve been laid out over the last twenty some odd years. We have characters like Salandria whom could take his place in the Eversong questing, a child whom literally grew up in the Horde, probably alongside Troll children, would ABSOLUTELY have every justification to stop and ask, âWhy are we slaughtering the Amani like undead or demons? Theyâre people, like us.â It would feel so natural if that sentiment came from Salandria.
When it comes from Arator, however, it feels empty. Heâs not a part of the Horde. He didnât grow up alongside troll and orc children. Sure, his personal beliefs through the Light can allow him to have a broader perspective and be more tolerant than his forebearers, but its the Anduin situation all over again; he comes across naive because he has no experience to act as the foundation for these views.
I think Aratorâs quest to restore Turalyonâs shield is fitting for him, but beyond that I donât think he needed MORE of a role in Midnight than any other paladin. This doesnât feel like the right time to use him as a character in the narrative, even if it makes sense for him to be present.
I really hope Anduin doesnât reclaim his titles and abdicates rule explicitly to Genn or Turalyon.
At best heâs always treated ruling/leading as a reluctant obligation more than anything he ever fully embraced and I hope if he is to return to society - it would be as a priest rather than a king. Let Tess rule Gilneas and Genn Stormwind, itâs time the Worgen get a W, even if itâs a small and performative one.
and the centuries old wrynn line ends with anduin.
Stormwindâs governmental structure was always a confusing and often dysfunctional mess and Iâm happy Anduin is free of it. Now he can be free to pursue a relationship with Baine or Taelia(if Blizzard ever remembers the latter exists).
If Stormwind truly is the melting pot a lot of writers and devs often paint it as, there should be no problem with a non human/outsider leading it.
We can chalk the difference up to Anduin not naming Brigadier General Racism and Ranger Lady Babykillmaim as his successors to the throne. There are many other reasons to dislike Anduin anyway.
Of course he didnât since he does everything right LMAO
