I’d like to see the Zul’Drak Loa again!
Especially Har’koa and Rhunok.
Personally hoping Ursoc returns in spite of Shadowlands @ Grizzly Hills, and reunites with his brother Ursol
I’d love to ally with Iridikron and the Primalists against over-zealous Titanforged
Aaaaaaaaaaand I’d like to see some mysticism and spiritual elements that surpass beyond even the Shadowlands and ‘The First Ones’ to be brought back forth into the game again
If he does he has to explain to Jaina why he told her the only chance for humanity to survive was to flee to Kalimdor. Made the MoP pre patch awkward xD
I think that was answered by the events that followed. Jaina and her forces were critical in the victory at Mt Hyjal. I don’t think it was about Kalimdor being the only safe place. It was more about maneuvering forces together to fight the Legion.
This never made sense in a world where WoW exists, since it’s pretty apparent Stormwind was still considered an orc & ogre infested ruin during WarCraft 3, not a major player on the world’s stage, thus creating the plothole of Medivh and Jaina never even trying to contact Varian. It’s even weirder since W3 and WoW were developed side by side, but Stormwind is not referenced anywhere except one item (Lion Horn of Stormwind).
I swear, if you had bought WC3 Pre-WoW than the manual was written to describe Stormwind as a ruined land but if you had bought WC3 post-WoW than the manual had been changed to where Stormwind was being rebuilt and was recovering at a rate that basically made the events of WC1 and WC2 meaningless. I think the WC3 manual was also changed in order to be more in line with WoW’s manual regarding Stormwind and what it was doing during WC3.
WoW was never meant to be a canonical game and I think the WoW Diary even addresses this by saying it was meant to be a side project while they worked on a WC4, but the sudden massive popularity of WoW forced the company to quickly pivot away from future Warcraft RTS titles. Also, I believe that the initial drafting of WoW’s development there were plans for the humans to start in Theramore but that got changed pretty quickly due to game balance issues (I think).
Retroactively, that makes sense but Jaina also brought forces from Gilneas, Stromgarde, and Lordaeron, and Kul Tiras. So I think the initial intent during the RTS’ development was to show that all of the eastern kingdoms was no longer safe.
We do know that the story for WC3 underwent major changes during its development as well.
I’m with Meringue on this one. It was more about ensuring there was a standing force capable of defeating the Burning Legion at Mount Hyjal. It is also why he told the Orcs to flee to Kalimdor. So together, humans, Orcs and Night Elves would be able to stand side by side against Archimonde and win. Not so much, ‘flee to Kalimdor and start a new kingdom’.
There was also Kul Tiras. An island that wasn’t attacked by the scourge and even sent a fleet looking for the survivors of Lordaeron that fled to Kalimdor, including Daelins own daughter.
I don’t think they changed the WC3 manual like that. I haven’t found anything to suggest Blizzard rewrote the WC3 manual following WoW’s release. Hell the WC3 manual even refers to Stormwind as ‘The Kingdom of Azeroth’. The original name of the kingdom. As Stormwind was just the name of the capital city, not the Kingdom as a whole. From WoW onwards it would be preferred to as the Kingdom of Stormwind. Probably to avoid confusion with Azeroth (the planet) and to make it in line with the other Human Kingdoms where they are named after their capital cities.
The southern kingdom of Azeroth grew prosperous again and reestablished itself as a military power under King Wrynn’s visionary leadership
it is on page 6. Technically page 5 as well but it is literally just the word ‘The’ on page 5.
The WC3 manual does say it was rebuilt and Varian was back on the throne. Given that the Horde was completely defeated at the end of the second war, it would be weird if Stormwind (or the Kingdom of Azeroth as the manual calls it) wasn’t rebuilt.
As for Jaina not making contact with Varian, it is possible there wasn’t enough time realistically. I mean Jaina hoped that Arthas would succeed in Northrend despite knowing Mal’ganis was baiting him into a trap. And even then, canonically she only had 2 months to gather as many people who would be willing to flee to Kalimdor with her before the Scourge overran Lordaeron, Quel’thalas and Dalaran. Stormwind was still recovering and while it was rebuilding strong, I don’t think they would’ve been in a position to send any form of military aid. Even more so given who was in Varians ear at the time.
Although I will say it is kind of a plot hole that she didn’t at least go to Kul Tiras on the way to Kalimdor. Maybe could’ve avoided the whole conflict with her father if she did. But I suspect the only thing on her mind was getting to Kalimdor asap. She did have some Kul Tiran elite guards with her (Kul Tiran Elite Corps in game) but personally I view them more as her personal guard than anything her father actually sent after she had fled Lordaeron.
Not a Northred thing, but I hope all these lost draenei enclaves they’ve been revealing to us in Midnight lead to something.
First in Voidstorm now again in Naigtal. Kind of fun to see them exploring the idea, but I really hope it bares some kind of fruit. Obviously someone on the team really likes draenei and is intent on keeping them in the conversation.
Yeah look in all seriousness I agree 100% with this. I wasn’t being hyper serious, hence the fun and quirky “xD” I guess lol.
Anyway, it’s just one of those funny things in Warcraft Lore that make sense in universe but when looked at from a certain angle can be kinda awkward. Like whoops. Lordaeronians not really safe in Kalimdor, uh oh. And possibly my favourite: at the end of the Cataclysm, the dragon aspects declare that the Age of Dragons has ended and the Age of Mortals has begun. Then the Age of Mortals apparently consists of a world war followed by a time travelling alien invasion, followed by a regular evil super demon alien invasion, followed by another world war, followed by the whole realm of death nearly breaking due to mortal interference, and then Dragonflight hits and the dragons proudly declare the Age of Dragons is back again. Which makes sense, HECK the age of mortals was pretty wild, I’d bring back the old management too tbh
It does feel like the Aspects had a conversation that was basically ‘Guys, we put toddlers in charge. We need to fix this.’ That seems to the their motivation for getting their aspect powers back.
