If i go with Soul harvester the last hero talent literally only works if i use Soul rot… so i’m FORCED to use soul rot… which works off Drain life. but I literally took drain life off my bars because it doesn’t do anything.
This synergy makes zero sense to me, am I looking at this wrong??

Yes, Soul Rot is your 1 min burst CD now, because it gives you shards and makes them succulent souls. Forget Drain Life, Soul Burn → Demonic Health Stone is your heal now.
Soul Rot giving succulent soul shard makes Soul Harvester Affliction buttery smooth, infinitely better playstyle wise than Hellcaller.

Hero talents change the way you play. You press Soul Rot to do 1.5M dps. Not to heal yourself - they gave you a way to instantly heal yourself to full every minute instead of casting something and then channeling something. It’s arguably one of the best hero talents playstyle-wise, giving Aff lock on-demand burst damage, feels great to play. Let’s not fix what isn’t broke.
I think we’re going to need higher m+ or raiding to let Hellcaller shine. Just not worth it now, things die way too fast.

I wonder why soul rot still cleaves drain life , thought they’d change it to shadowbolt or something by now.
Also soul rot is such a weak stand alone spell for a 1min cd on single target, if it wasn’t for all the procs and buffs it gave no one would pick it.
Furthermore, maybe its about time they merged phantom singularity and soul rot into 1 button, just increase soul rots damage and make it grants infirmity.

The issue is the Soul Rot itself, not it’s surrounding abilities and talents. Soul Rot is useless, does negligible damage for a 1-min CD kickable cast, and it’s mass drain mechanic is useless because drain life is useless.
It’s basically now a filler spell for the Hero Talent instead of a strong mass heal like it was intended, which is bad gameplay design IMO. I’d rather Shadow of Death Hero Talent be its own instant 1-min CD instead of connecting the 3xsucculent shards to Soul Rot.

You can’t have that with things like demonic health stone and party health stone healing you. They’ve added so much other healing for locks now that are improvements over drain life. Dark Pact heals is an example.
It’s fine, they took a spell that wasn’t useful anymore and made it a burst CD. It’s fine as is, because even if vile is on CD, you can use its DoT spread on Soul Rot to slap a pack that dies quick. They literally gave aff burst damage, which is great for dungeons and m+.
Aff lock Soul Harvester is one of the best hero talents out there. All hero talents pick spells from your tree and do something with it, this one was Soul Rot. The whole design approach was to take existing spells with new functionality and not add new ones.
If you made instant Shadow of Death replace it, it would be so OP in PvP. MR has a 100 yard range. Just dot everyone up, instant gain succulent souls, gate out of range and melt the team with MRs at safe distance. This forces you to cast Soul Rot in range, signaling your burst. It needs some counter play.
I don’t even have soul rot ttaken on the talent tree. I’m just on the soul harvester tree for the bonus shadow bolt damage, haunt giving nightfall and wicked reaping damage. everything else is meh. I never use malefict grasp either.
Brother this is like the third post youve made about warlock on the most basic parts of the kit. I implore you to watch a ton of youtube content on warlock or just swap to another class…

i likebthat this will make us less predictable in arena especially if the majority arent playing hellcaller.
Honestly in arena its super strong. Fongers crossed tier doesnt give melee another edge.
So you dont want to do 3.5 million dps on trash in dungeons?

Community correct me if i’m wrong but i thought the soul-rot into soulburn + drain-life combo was for survivability, not damage.
I have used it when soloing or in small parties (at least). It allows me to tank adds myself w/o a voidwalker. Has the healing been significantly reduced or something? I would be similarly frustrated as cleave drain-life is one of my favorite thematic casts for aff.
