Soooo... when Liadrin become the Avatar of Sunwell?

I didn’t say anything about Liadrin one shot Xal. This would also be a good script for Xal’atath. Even if Liadrin was empowered and stopped Xal’atath from destroying Sunwell, that’s not enough to defeat her. This would show Xal as a truly dangerous opponent. Despite taking a blow from a literal avatar of Light, we need way more to put her down.

If we want any chance of winning, the logical solution would be to seek higher powers. How can we do this without growing stronger? Through the power of friendship? It’s controversial but I’d rather turn her into a new Kerrigan than seeing how “Only working together, we can overcome anything.” defeat god level threat, again.

Nor did I. Not sure where you got that idea.

That has already been shown, VERY clearly. We do not need rampant power scaling to prove it.

First off, at the start of Midnight she will be pushed back from the Sunwell by the Army of the Light (and player characters) reinforcing the armies of Silvermoon. Blizzard has already said there will be more (and unexpected) characters summoned to help. So, no we do not need one character to be powered up to even near the level of a void lord.

Second off, the whole ‘power up to match the enemy’ trope makes the story bad afterword. What do you do with new uber character? Why are they not then solving every problem? So, then the new threat has to be even more ridiculously powerful to justify the uber hero not just instantly resolving things. You see this happen a lot in comic books. Hero’s get stronger to be able to win against an enemy, then you need the next bad guy to be even stronger, then the hero has to be even stronger, on and on to absurd levels.

We don’t need some character to become a match for Xal (or even near match). That would be the laziest approach. And would make the story worse going forward.

I have zero doubt Liandrin will serve a VERY important role in Midnight. She might even end up the most important role. But it would be MUCH better if that role is a leadership role rather than ridiculously over powered front line uber hero. Better for the overall story. And better for her story arc.

I am a hue fan of the trope – Even after a massive boost, you don’t have enough power to defeat your enemy. – I don’t want her new strength to solve all the problems, but it opens the door to new, previously unattainable possibilities.

Perhaps one of the Well blessings would be immunity to Xal’atath’s psychic attacks, which were a major problem even for Alleria. This doesn’t save us, but it’s clearly a step forward and weakens Void influence.

So, let’s talk about what you are reading into things.

“And a deus ex machina powerup to win the day” does not equal 1 shot.

“The whole ‘power up to match the enemy’ trope” does not equal 1 shot.

So, again: Nobody said anything about a 1 shot.

I think this is because you have not really thought through the problems with the trope in a continuing story.

Stop and really think this through. Think about what power Xal’atath currently has. She is wielding the power of a void lord. If you empower any single hero character to even close to that level then every single problem going forward has to be more powerful than a void lord, or it is trivial. This ends up in a cycle of escalation to the point it eclipses every other story. It all becomes bland.

The trope of a hero rising up and becomes god tier super strong can work (if it fits the character and narrative) when it is a self contained story. Character takes on god tier power, saves the world, curtain call, story ends. But it becomes extremely problematic when the story has to continue with god level powers being available.

And that is before we even talk about Liandrin’s arc and the well itself. There is not an interesting story with the Sunwell just empowering her. It doesn’t help her overall arc. What you are suggesting is nothing more than a deus ex machina ‘here is your power, go win’ story. That would be a bad story and do a disservice to Liandrin’s character arc.

I don’t know if ‘immunity’ is needed.

More importantly, at the start of Midnight, the Sunwell IS providing support. It is what is holding back the voidstorm. It is strengthening the defenders. And Paladins and Priests will be aiding it. So, the Sunwell can help without a need for a single character to be ‘super powered’ to win the day.

Personally, I hope to see Liandrin taking a leading role in the Sunwell’s defense. I want to see her character grow, not just get a deus ex machina power up for the sake of a power fantasy.

I’m not saying she should be on par with Velen or Malfurion but any kinds of power would be nice and cool.

I also don’t expect anyone else to be the main defender of Silvermoon (though I recommend her to watch out for axes from behind, if she’s not careful she’ll might disappear for another 8 years). We both want a great story for Liadrin So even if she doesn’t get any new power, if the story gonna be interesting and logical I’m gonna enjoy it. :grinning:

If you are asking for her to be anything close to Xal’atath’s level you are asking for her to be way stronger than Malfurion and leagues above Velen.

And let’s be honest, Malfurion’s power level caused story issues. There is a reason Blizzard had to find reasons to sideline him so much. Malfurion is an example of how too much power causes story issues.

Why the focus on power? Power fantasy stories almost always end up bad for the overall story and bad for the character arcs.

What does it take to be a “main defender?”

I see her and Lor’themar being the leaders of the defense. Does being a leader not count? Or do you think a single character has to be the front line to qualify as a ‘main defender?’

We do. I think they have started well. There is certainly promise in her character.

I just like her more than other Blood elves characters :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t want the Blood Elf identity to continue to be tied to Paladins only. We have Farstriders, we have Magisters. We need a variety in story and portrayal. There are Blood Elves that use mana, use fel, use blood magic, death magic. All of that needs to be portrayed and not sanitized for Paladins to get the focus.

Considering Anveena is actually fun and a little wacky, definitely not.
