All that matters is combat log timings. When the ability is on its way, its over.
Damage is calculated when the ability is cast, but absorbs are just a health buffer, not damage reduction. If you have an absorb on you, it will stop damage even if an ability was cast and in the air before the absorb was applied. Regardless, that’s not the issue here. Sudden demise simply bypasses absorbs entierly.
