Some Direction in Testing

Back when I worked for Sony in the 1990s, I developed test plans/scripts for CD-ROM titles. One of the contracted playtesters who worked for me ended up being an associate producer on EQ. Another playtester was my wife… a little extra cash (back when play testers got paid) … that aside, are there areas we need to focus our attention, or are we just playing and reporting issues we randomly run into?

I would like some direction, like…hey, focus your attention here, or there! instead of playing as a tester, I keep forgetting that I am testing and feel like I am just playing the game.

These are the serious questions we need answered. My guess is, if you think something shouldn’t be there or be this, back check it, search for references, and report it if wrong.

Well, I probably shouldn’t drink and test, nor post at the same time. This post was meant for the classic beta forum.

They have testers for that.
The bug reports beta tester send in get sent to the QA team. A list os compiled and paid testers try to reproduce those bugs in addition to normal testing.

It’s like if you’re not sure if you got herpes so you post asking if you do in the virgins and friendzoned forums. We’re starving over here.

It would be nice to have maybe a daily posting that directs something to focus on, for example: “Hey tester base. Good morning. Today we’d like you to focus on dungeon mob pathing, emotes, shooting with wands, and swimming in and out of fatigue water zones. Thank you for your assistance.”

That would defeat the pourpose of the beta. They have paid testers for directed testing.
They want beta testers to play the game normaly and report bugs that they didnt expect in places they didnt think to look.

If you realy need a task Im not in the beta and something has been bothering me. Theres a quest in duskwood that spawns stitches. He is currently bugged but the nature of the bug is unclear. It would help if someone could follow him from his spawn to darkshire and see if he is neutral the entire time and if the two sets of gaurds on the road he should fight are spawning.

He’s red/aggressive until he passes the guards. The guards just stand there. Stitches passes through them, like walking through a waterfall…like the one under Gringott’s in Harry Potter… the five guards are side-by-side, appearing to block the path. Stitches then shouts something (I don’t remember what he shouts) then he becomes neutral. I observed this as I made my way around him a few days ago.

…see how that works? Give me a little direction and who knows what can be accomplished!
