Solo Players -- How Do You Feel?

Leveling alts is also part of my solo endgame

You’re one yourself.

Hey Oedon! I just got back from a Forum vacation. Good to see you! Anyway, I know how you feel, but I have hope now!!

The Microsoft purchase changed everything! Now (well when the merger is completed) Blizz has a new corporate Master. A Master who could take the Warcraft IP away from Blizzard and give it to another studio. That’s an extreme example, but not outside the realm of possibility. Plus I am betting WoW will come to GamePass, and MS is going to demand Content over Political Messaging.

Guys like Ion, Holinka, and that hack, Steve Danhauser all have their jobs on the line; If DF fails MS could clean House and fire everyone of the Management. I think that Blizzard is about to shut up about messaging, and getting back to the business of developing a product the player base actually wants, and trying to get back some of the Customers they drove away with with their “F-U” attitude that has been displayed to the player base for a good long time now.

MS will get a profitable Game, or take drastic measures to get there. They do not like making bad investments.

Good to see you too. Hope all is well

Kind of like David Zaslav is doing at Warner Bros?

I just answered your question.
I’m not left out of content I don’t do. I’m left out of the entire game.

Oh I am jaded. The realization that a lot of these meta achievements that reward mounts are designed to maximize the amount of time it takes to achieve them was really a poke in the eye.

I choose not to do it. So… no?

Now… if you’re asking if I feel engaged and that Blizz cares about people like me who do world content only at max level… no, I do not.

We get nothing new for content in 9.2.5 or season 4. We’ll even be behind LFR at that point and left with nothing but the same ZM.

I don’t expect Mythic level gear, so no one better start that bullcrap strawman. But I do expect a world progression route similar to Korthia. There were a few things that needed tweaked about Korthia’s system, but it was one that kept people engaged for the entire patch and gave us world content people a sense of accomplishment in getting that max rank of gear at the end. More of that type at max level would be great. And it could be expanded on, unlike ZM, which we hit too fast and now there’s nothing to add for a new season.

Eh, I get my fill of any group content doing overland, lfg, or lfr. I enjoy doing old content mostly, transmog, and story quests when new patches drop.

Hmmm I feel like I get pushed into doing group content which is annoying. But I’m glad to get the gear from the dungeons. I am just not a fan of waiting in group finder, especially on new alts. People see you have no score and hesitate to invite you which is really not a fun experience.

I am really sad that Shadowlands discontinued nice solo progression like Visions of N’zoth. I wish torgast gave out like heroic raid gear weekly. But I have to go through pugging mythics for decent ilvl which is really annoying.

At least this season they let us get tier gear and transmog through the creation catalyst, but the charges are sorta too slow… could be collecting a bunch of transmog sets, but it’s just arbitrarily timegated.

I also pugged a normal raid… but that took a while and I got bored and left. I prefer the dungeons because you can just leave and pug again after burning through a dungeon.

So far doing a dungeon a week on all my characters is nice, I just wish there were alternate ways to get the mythic raid transmog besides the great vault.

I also wish we could have collected the SoD transmog sets from Torgast, that would have been nice to do on alts.

Also hate the lack of certain cypher slots like trinkets/weapons.

I really wished season 4 would at least let us get competitive gear from torgast in the great vault. I would love a nice transmog set to get from there at a decent ilvl.

The season 4 sort of makes all the item level stuff we get sort of useless anyway, so I don’t see why solo players are left out at the ilvls from mythic plus. I would have loved to upgrade the gear like valor gear from solo content to at least 272.

I must say getting the 272/278 has made running torgast 16s much more smooth, I just wish solo progression actually existed at higher soloing levels.

I feel incredibly left out. I could complete 11/11 N Sepulcher, have 2k M+ gearscore and 260 ilvl and STILL not get invited to raids or 15+'s. I play on a pretty much ‘dead’ server and I feel like there are only a few opportunities a week to get into raids and it NEVER happens. I feel stuck and I play 9+ hours a day. Never feeling like I’m progressing.

I’m not worried.
I have no issue not having high end gear because I don’t need it.
I do one or two M2 per week. That is the limit of my interest so far.

You answered both times really well. I could only think of something snotfaced to say but you did it with both logic and grace.
Twice.
Ty for that.

Play football with people in Ironforge on my bank.

No. Been there, done that. Not interested.

Play around in Chromie Time, leveling up alts, RPing, doing quests (there’s A LOT of them), etc.

I’ve attempted the Pacifist Challenge, once.

For the most part, yes, but a large but: once upon a time, there was a mechanism (valor points) that allowed solo / multi-alt players to grind their way to gear that was at least a facsimile of what raiders were able to get. Not so much now. (I recall a lot of whingeing by raiders at the time that the non-parity was still too close to keep their fragile egos from being bruised. YMMV, but to me, it always came across as, “The mere thought of those trailer trash people driving the same European car we have!”)

I’m not saying we should be able to get what people who repeatedly run challenging content on Mythic difficulty get, just that the disparity in ilvl shouldn’t be so great. As it is, there is no reason to run LFR, at all, currently. (If I want to “see the content,” there are plenty of YouTube videos.)

As a soloer myself, I find YouTube videos work just fine for “experiencing the story.” The light show, and song-and-dance, leaping and dancing aspects of raids leave me sleeping in the corner.

And please don’t anyone start with M+ as a way to level gear, because the high probability of falling in with toxic players is (for me) prohibitive — and as playing WoW is something I do for enjoyment, I prefer to take things at a somewhat more relaxed pace. All I can think of when faced with people who face pull the maximum possible number of trash mobs and plot the fastest courses through content they run over and over is, “Glad I’m not your girlfriend.”

Since normal/heroic instances don’t drop gear worth waking up for, the only reason to run them is if you’re doing so with friends. Or, of course, Blizz decides to make you run one or more to get through e.g. a Covenant story line (I’m looking at you, Revendreth). Friends, good. Armtwisting, no so much.

I just enjoy the leveling/questing process these days, and when I run out I play alts or go back to classic, or another game.

It’s usually just my wife and I, while I might put in the work to get back into M+ and/or raiding it’s just not worth the stress anymore given blizzards tenacity for keeping us on the grind wheel and never giving us loot, and my wife cares even less than I do, so if she doesn’t want to do it then I have no reason to do it on my own.

Well, Torghast became pretty much optional by the time Zeroth Mortis rolled around. YMMV, but I felt it was a much too large investment of time for any enjoyment gained. I guess I also have a preference for open spaces over nasty, dark, dank, dismal, dreary, dangerous dungeons (even ones with platforms).

In my part,I do I use to do raiding and mythic dungeons all that changed with people using the raider io and the stricter ring gone are those days which I have to accept because there’s nothing I can do about it.

As for what I do soloing, I that that day to day just hang out being chilled in a world of chaos.
