SoD: WoW's last gasp

(Verse 1)
Yo, Smilingman, let’s talk, take a seat,
Reflecting on WoW, feeling the heartbeat,
Season of Discovery, is it the last dance?
Losing its magic, feeling like our last chance.

(Chorus)
WoW, oh WoW, what happened to the glory?
From camaraderie to toxicity, that’s the story,
Elitism rising, joy is now missing,
In this min-max world, where’s the reminiscing?

(Verse 2)
Wrath of the Lich King, oh, what a ride,
Now we’re facing a decline, can’t let it slide,
Retail’s feeling the strain, the player base wanes,
Toxicity and streamers, are they to blame?

(Chorus)
WoW, oh WoW, where’s the exploration?
In the pursuit of efficiency, losing elation,
Gatekeeping, bypassing every game mechanic,
Once a vibrant world, now it’s feeling manic.

(Bridge)
But hold on, Smilingman, we ain’t done yet,
Gotta rise above, not let our sun set,
Remember the good times, the laughter, the thrill,
In the heart of Azeroth, we gotta find the will.

(Verse 3)
Let’s break the chains, free the game from the shackles,
Rediscover the joy, in every quest and tackle,
Bring back the days of wonder, exploration,
Not just a game, but a shared creation.

(Chorus)
WoW, oh WoW, we won’t let it fade,
From the toxic shadows, we’ll emerge unscathed,
In the Season of Discovery, let’s redefine,
The essence of WoW, let the magic realign.

(Outro)
So, Smilingman, it’s not the end, my friend,
World of Warcraft, we’ll defend,
Through the struggles, we’ll find our way,
Happy discovering, let’s make a brighter day.

Never seen someone cope this hard.

WoD saw the steepest decline in players ever recorded. The content was universally panned. But it was very profitable. Does that mean it was actually good for the health of the game?

Let me try your logic…

Wotlk received no content for 2 quarters.
Player base declines dramatically.
Blizzard lays off a ton of employees.
Profits are up next quarter while the population declines and no content is added
Profits are up so the game is headed in the right direction!

Huh? It’s a 20 year old game off course theirs gonna be bloat. Hate on it all you want but retail is doing fine. Sure the PvP scene is stagnant but the playerbase is well off enough and the content in dragonflight is relatively good for blizzard considering the last few years.

i don’t think so dude. SoD is a fail but they’ll just churn out another silly retail expac with a new race of cuddle bears or something and continue to make money :expressionless:

You are making a bold statement

In my world adults don’t make bold statements without something other than a feeling or a hunch to back it up.

They look liquid and that typically doesn’t suggest a collapse of Blizzard’s World of Warcraft franchise.

Sorry if the my desire for facts get in the way of your feelings

I love you guys.

if you can’t admit that SoD can be crap and blizzard can be liquid at the same time, then you’re just trolling and the conversation is over :expressionless:

I’ll admit that as soon as you admit that a product can be “crap” and still make money

One of us is already pretty confident about their position in this debate. I tend to position myself well within a discussion :face_with_monocle:

I never denied that blizzard can still make money off crappy things… that’s their entire business model in fact :expressionless:

Yeah, you’re definitely not trying to make yourself feel better.

You’re also not talking about relevant facts. You’re talking about corporate finances while everyone else is talking about game health and enjoyment. Blizzard is more profitable today than they were when WoW had 13 million subs.

Love that you use wow to larp a Ben Shapiro tho never seen that before.

Well then where are you coming up with the conclusion that SoD is wow”s “last gasp”

Now that we have determined that the “crappyness” of a product does not determine its sustainability

Remember that this is a division within a line I ASSUME. I honestly don’t watch video game company’s books much now. We are too far past Covid imo.

Quitting?

Please, PLEASE tell me you were playing a ret paladin.

It makes my day whenever I learn a ret paladin quits.

oh I see, you’re just obsessively fixating on the phrase “last gasp” instead of the actual point of the thread, which is that SoD stinks and blizzard is incapable of making a true successor to classic WoW :expressionless: ok have fun

Hey Update, don’t let setbacks get you down—remember, even the sneakiest gnome rogue faces challenges! Keep your chin up and your daggers sharp; your tenacity and charm will surely win the heart of a fair maiden one day. Trust in yourself, Update, and believe that love awaits just around the corner!

I say good riddance, and let a new game and company sink 200 million into a quality production not starting off with the in-game store microtransactions, gdkp, and gold sellers.

This company as a whole has only been producing garbage and cash grabs for many, many years.

With a heavy heart?

SoD is tons of fun. We currently have Classic Era, HC, SoD, WoW Classic: WotLK, and Retail all under the same subscription.

If there isn’t something on offer that people like, at this point, I have a hard time believing that there is anything that they could be offered that they would be happy with.

Of course the game doesn’t “feel the same” anymore. You know what else doesn’t “feel the same” anymore? Time with grandma. I don’t even wonder why, because it’s obvious. Times have changed. We have changed. WoW is not new. Computers aren’t new. High speed Internet is not new. Heck, I’d be surprised if any of the players I’ve run across in the last several months have been playing WoW for less than a decade.

While I don’t think that it has much to do with streamers, I do think that the culture that SoD is clearly catering to (that of complaining) is pretty bad, and offputting. There’s a lot of people who are just complaining to get what they want, and then getting what they want. 100% that’s the dev’s fault, because that’s the culture they are literally cultivating by catering towards it, but perhaps this Season of Discovery, they will discover why kids like parents who are parents, not friends.

It would be interesting to unpack some of this, but for sure I personally stand on the side of preferring to play with people who aren’t such 420 bros that they can’t even figure out what’s going on during Electrocutioner. Because that’s just painful. Call me an elitist!

Actually, they are literally anywhere to be found where you’d like to make them. It’s on you though to build some community around yourself for that. It’s not particularly difficult to do or find.

idk what you’re playing, but SoD is fun as heck. My biggest complaint since the beginning is that it’s perhaps a little too fun. Sure, there are some things that I could point out that I’d prefer to be this way or that way, but overall it’s quite an amazingly fun version of WoW. If only I had time to play every spec and every class, and really explore them all! But, I don’t. I have to make trade offs with the time that I do have.

In any case though, of course we can’t go back to being 20 years younger in a world 20 years technologically behind now and without the experiences and memories we’ve had along the way.

We are all relatively expert level video game players, and WoW players with decades of experience with this game, literally. What do you expect?

I feel good, you?

Like they say, if someone loves you half as much as I love myself then you are doing pretty good.

There is only 1 toilet, and they make you all go at the same time!

Keep selling yourself and you may have a customer
