So you want to go to Black Temple again and do the mechanics that was before with some extra hard mode mechanics. Instead of new content that was never seen before?
Lol. Have you seen people’s reactions to SE? They want no part in anything brand new - short of it being able to be zugged into the ground and gear raining from the sky.
If they make it, people will play it.
TBC is where WoW went bad. Keep it in Azeroth.
I will play the hell out of SOD TBC
I still want Classic+ tho!
Vanilla,TBC,Wrath where great
Do you remember cata? No thanks!!! But don’t worry After TBC SoD and WoTLK SoD we will most likely see a Cata SoD.
They could always squish Outland to level 60.
Easily could turn Kara into the intended 60 raid it was supposed to be in order to open the Dark Portal.
Need a pirate raid in Tanaris. Could use the port on the north east side to have a boat that goes to a new pirate island.
Here is a list of projects that were scrapped and never added to Vanilla. I have also included other areas where possible raids or dungeons could be added.
Battlegrounds That Were Never Added
- Azshara Crater – A battleground concept that was designed but never made it into the game.
- Defense of the Alehouse – A scrapped battleground idea that never saw the light of day.
Raids That Were Never Released
Karazhan
Originally intended as a raid in Vanilla before being repurposed for The Burning Crusade.
- Precursor to the Dark Portal Opening: Karazhan could be reimagined as a major raid tied to Medivh’s lingering influence, serving as a story bridge to future expansions.
- Hardmode Mechanics: A revamped Karazhan raid could introduce dynamic encounters, scaling difficulty, and new loot unique to the Season of Discovery system.
- Runes & Secrets: Unique mage and warlock runes could be obtained here, enhancing arcane abilities and fueling speculation about Medivh’s return.
Uldum Raid
There were early concepts for Uldum being a raid, but it was never developed in Vanilla.
- Titan Awakening Theme: Players could venture deep into Uldum, uncovering forgotten Titan technology and facing newly awakened Titan constructs.
- Ancient Egyptian-inspired Raid Encounters: The Tol’vir, an ancient race tied to Uldum, could make their debut here, with mystical stone guardians serving as raid bosses.
- Artifact-Based Progression: Players could collect Titan artifacts from defeated bosses, unlocking powerful runes or class augments.
Undead Stratholme Raid
There were discussions about using the old Naxxramas portal inside Stratholme for a raid, but it never materialized. This raid entrance could now be used as a undead strath raid.
- Scarlet Crusade Counteroffensive: The remaining Scarlet Crusaders could try to reclaim Stratholme, battling the lingering undead and clashing with players in three-way battles.
- Plaguelands PvE/PvP Hybrid: The raid could be a PvEvP instance, where players fight undead mobs but also faction-based NPC Crusaders who attack intermittently.
- Kel’Thuzad’s Revenge: A new Kel’Thuzad encounter could emerge, showcasing his growing influence after Naxxramas was weakened.
Emerald Dream Raid – Blizzard had plans for a 40-man raid in the Emerald Dream, but it was never implemented.
- Corruption & Redemption Theme: The Emerald Dream could be slowly unraveling, with players battling both Nightmare-corrupted creatures and ancient defenders seeking to purge Azeroth of outsiders.
- Reality-Shifting Mechanics: Players could have abilities allowing them to swap between the real world and the Dream, with different boss behaviors in each phase.
- Druid-Specific Content: Exclusive Druid rune effects could drop here, allowing Druids to harness Dream energy in unique ways.
Azshara Raid
- Queen Azshara’s Sunken Palace: A raid set in the depths of Azshara, featuring Naga warlords, ancient Highborne spirits, and deep-sea horrors.
- Underwater Mechanics: Players could navigate submerged ruins, using breath-enhancing buffs or magical air pockets to survive.
- Old God Influence: The raid could tie into N’Zoth’s early whispers, showing how Azshara’s forces were already being manipulated before her full transformation.
Mount Hyjal Raid
- Hyjal’s Corrupted Grove: Instead of the Burning Legion invasion from TBC, this version could focus on corrupted wildlife, rogue druids, and ancient threats.
- Night Elf & Tauren Lore Expansion: The raid could explore lost Night Elf settlements, revealing hidden druidic knowledge and new rune abilities for players.
- Elemental Cataclysm: Players could battle raging elemental forces, with fire, earth, and storm-based encounters leading to a climactic fight against a fallen guardian of Hyjal.
Zones That Were Never Fully Developed
- Mount Hyjal (Quest Zone) – Originally planned as a questing zone with rewards and a potential raid.
- Dragon Isles – Early concept art suggested this could have been an Old Gods-related raid or contested zone.
Northern Lordaeron
Some areas were partially developed but never fully realized in Vanilla.
- Stratholme’s Ruins – This area was once a thriving city, but after Arthas purged it, it became a Scourge stronghold. The books describe how Kel’Thuzad and the Cult of the Damned used it as a staging ground for their necromantic experiments.
- Dragon Isles Connection – Early development maps suggested this area could have led to the Dragon Isles, a scrapped zone that was later referenced in Battle for Azeroth
Quel’Thalas
Quel’Thalas was the heart of the High Elves, ruled by King Anasterian Sunstrider before its destruction
- The Sunwell’s Power – We could possibly see a new Sunwell raid/dungeon where we fight Dath’Remar Sunstrider who created the Sunwell, infusing the land with eternal springtime and granting High Elves their magical prowess.
- Troll Wars & Amani Conflict – Quel’Thalas was constantly at war with the Amani trolls, who saw the elves as usurpers. Anther dungeon or 10 man raid where we can fightwith King Anasterian who allied with the humans of Arathor to defeat the trolls.
- Scourge Invasion & Blood Elves – Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider led the survivors after Arthas destroyed Quel’Thalas, turning the High Elves into Blood Elves This could also lead into more dungeons/raid content.
These scrapped ideas show how much potential Vanilla WoW had for additional content that never made it into the final game. Would you have liked to see any of these added?
kara very blah… new avalon is even more blah haveing to go there to do tradeskills is just a time sink, If you dont have a tradeskill like leatherworking blacksmithing whats the point of the place? Lets not talk about the hate against this 20 man Scarlet Enclave.
The Caverns of Time area has two raid entrances and five separate dungeon portals, which could be used for new content.
Blizzard can extend SoD for a few more years by utilizing the Caverns of Time and the other areas I listed with raid content. They could also increase the level cap and use new zones as leveling areas. However, I think this would have to come in SoD 2.0, as it would require a lot of work.
Why not? Scarlet Enclave has been a solid raid experience, offering unique mechanics and a fresh setting that expands Classic content.
The progressive difficulty, tight-knit 20-man format, and Scarlet Crusade lore tie-ins make it an engaging addition. I also love how it’s not a loot pinata. Getting that first kill feels so much more rewarding an actual accomplishment. And when you do get loot, it truly feels earned.
You’re expecting a lot from a skeleton crew of devs. There is just no way for a crew this small to do big grandiose things like create expansion level content.
The most we can get is old content SODified.
Old Content like Mount Hyjal?
I just watched this Ebonhardt video about TBC and it kind of low-key makes me want SoD TBC.
I want to play TBC, but I’m kind of on the fence if I want to play Anniversary TBC.
Kara raid, Hyjal raid, Stormwind raid, something in Uldum, dungeons/raids in Caverns of Time… Lots of stuff they could develop on the original map. Going to TBC would ruin SoD. I’d prefer no additional development and keeping it as an SoD era serve before TBC.
You’re assuming the devs would need to create entirely new, expansive content from scratch, but that’s not the case. Much of the content being suggested was already in development before it was scrapped—it’s about finishing existing work, not starting fresh.
On top of that, some of this content has already been released in other versions of the game in different forms. That means it’s not about creating something from nothing, but rather refining and implementing ideas that have already been conceptualized. So the workload isn’t as overwhelming as you’re making it sound.
I have already pointed all of this out in some detail in a previous post. Blizzard could and should introduce new battlegrounds as well.
TBC, but no flying.
Flying kills the world of this game.
After redoing TBC in classic, I realized how much flying actually takes away from some of the fun I find in this game.
Might as well just let everyone teleport everywhere.
You couldn’t be more wrong. Sounds awesome.
Squish Outland to 60
Also Eranikus chain isnt finished.
Me, I want it.
