Yeah everyone was using allakhazam and thottbot, there were videos and online personalities just like now. Just like then, there are scrubby people complaining about it and pretending their own confusion and inability to process information quickly or play in a competitive fashion is some sort of general issue.

This is what the Classic devs are striving for whether it existed or not, and even if you’re correct why shouldn’t that be the philosophy? It comes from a real place of the people who played the game and their connections with others. If they look back and have fond memories, and those memories only existing within their social circles, those fond memories should be the basis of the game’s guiding philosophy.
Well, it’s fine as a philosophy. I think such a game would be fun to play. But unless you’re encrypting the data, it’s not happening and is just a PR description, not an actual design philosophy.

No one is trying to police anything. No one is on a moral crusade to control every single person. Pointing out potential negatives to certain actions isn’t about control at all. I see this argument used a lot when people criticize community behaviour or in this case potential community behaviour and it’s a not a good one. WOW isn’t a single player game.
It’s a social game. Top guilds complain they want harder content, Blizzard gives harder content, Guilds are required therefore to only bring their best, Players study and adjust themselves to be taken to raid, sometimes even re-rolling characters. Maybe they even buy gold and join a GDKP to get geared up sufficiently. People who aren’t able or aren’t willing to do that just leave the game. This is just one example. You can’t play the build you want. You can’t enjoy it how you want. No one is bringing a Beast Mastery Hunter into their ICC 10 man Heroic progression.
This playerbase deserves some horizontal criticism, especially if it wants things to turn out differently with a fresh version of WOW.

Except wrath only devolved once cata news dropped with no plans currently for wrath era so that is a bad comparison. Think you mean people will drop from cata once they realize how since the endgame is raiding and dragon soul doesn’t match the others.
It will be really easy to reach 25 then do some alts because it will be doable. There will be a fun kind of exploration that cata will not have. And no need for professions are you an idiot? vanilla has the most need for professions and it went down after wrath and picked up (according to friends) in dragontales.
So no cata will be the raid log expansion with lfr.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO MIN MAX IF YOU DON’T WANT TO! No one can make you play how you don’t want to play. This may mean you can only get in a casual raiding guild but imo if you don’t want to go all out then why would you join a guild that does?
