SoD Characters should transfer to Classic+

Let us bring our sod characters to some of the servers on classic+

That would kinda defeat the purpose of Classic+ lol

Sod is more like a custom level 255 wow.

“Classic+”, or more like Vanilla+, is Vanilla with more content.

Those are not the same.

How so?

if you make a fresh server and a sod-transfer eligible server, what does it do that defeats the purpose of classic+?

I don’t think they are going to do a cataclysm level of reinventing the leveling process. Most new classic+ content is likely going to be added around endgame for replayablility.

let sod toons come to classic+ over with a gold cap and greens.

makes no sense sir

Why does transferring a lvl 60 from what people called a classic+ beta testing realm to the classic+ server not make sense?

because they cant play together. split an already niche community, great idea!

What do you mean they can’t play together?

You just remove the runes and give everyone green gear. Give the characters a gold cap.

When classic+ releases, sod is going to be 99.99% dead. Sod was described as the beta test to classic+ in the community.

Well, for one, there IS NO classic+ as of yet, so what is the point of even thinking about it? If and when they announce it, maybe then make your request.

I assure you no one at Blizzard ever referred to it this way, and if you haven’t noticed they don’t generally write their playbook by the community (for better or worse).

From the very beginning, the devs promised a permanent home for SoD characters. I believe it’s gonna look like Era, you’ll not be transferring to some other version.

to drum up support for it prior to plans being laid.

the devs have said repeatedly everything they are doing in sod is for a reason and they plan to use the lessons learned for another project.

yes. I am hoping they mean a home that is alive, not a graveyard. MoP has gameplay elements similar to sod but is not what many are looking for in terms of ambience and setting.

requesting a benefit isn’t really a method for drumming up support for an entire game version

There is already enough support for classic+. I don’t need to drum it up. Aggrend has commented to how they wouldn’t necessarily do things in an ideal classic+ exactly like they did in the more liberal SoD. The most recent post is one of the clearest indications of them working on classic+.

What I am drumming up is for SoD characters to have a truly permanent home.

The point of Classic+ is for everyone to be starting fresh in a brand new leveling experience and economy.

When the time comes for a real Classic+, we will all be starting from level 1, 0 copper.

Isnt this the point of anniversary?

The point of classic is to experience new “found photographs” and have more content be made for the old world. This is exactly what our sod characters have been doing. This can all be done at endgame.

If you desperately need 100% fresh server you could have 2 servers. One fresh and one that has sod characters able to transfer.

No they shouldn’t. Classic+ will be all new servers and it wont even be the same thing as SOD.

Or just expand upon SoD in some fashion.

Its going to be “found photographs” just like sod was

You can have all new servers and let characters copy over. You can even have 1 fresh server and one sod eligible server for each type of server (pvp, pve, etc)

that’s no longer a possibility

Wholeheartedly agree with OP.

Here’s my thinking:

Preserve SoD exactly how it is, for those who want it.

But whenever “Classic+” arrives, give existing SoD players the option to “clone” their characters over to it, with the following stipulations:

  1. If Classic+ rolls out in “phases”, the delay the cloning process until the fresh Classic servers have had a chance to catch up to Scarlet Enclave or whatever the closest equivalent is (so we don’t just come in with some MASSIVE advantage and steamroll content).

  2. All of the items inventory are immediately soulbound. No hoarding items to flood the market on the fresh servers.

2a. Perhaps institute a gold-cap, again just trying to preserve the integrity of the fresh economy. If it’s already insane, then this may not be necessary, but assuming things are a little more chilled out, then consider this an optional idea.

  1. Give SoD players a disclaimer that during the “cloning” process, you may lose access to certain abilities, features, and set-bonuses on the new servers if they are incompatible with Classic+ proper (for example; if they decided to remove Mage Healing, or if they just decided some new specs weren’t exactly what they want for Classic+). Any gear in your possession would be converted accordingly.

In my opinion, these would achieve the best of both worlds; they preserve the integrity of the “fresh start” that will hopefully come with Classic+, while at the same time honoring the investment that players have put into SoD. And for those who really don’t want to embrace ANY changes that Classic+ makes to their existing characters, they would still retain their originals on “SoD Era” (or whatever you call it), without forcing the Devs to support all of the experimental builds they added for SoD if they don’t feel it’s a good fit for Classic+.

Why not just a free character boost to 60, then they don’t have to deal with all the coding B.S. of having to port your character over to a different version of WoW.

Let’s be honest, most of the people in Classic Anniversary are treating it as a “TBC waiting room” anyways.
