So I’m sure this is a stretch, but out of curiosity…are there by chance any sober guilds out there? Like…guilds who help motivate sobriety and helping keep each other accountable, all while pushing the higher end game content?

The question is, are there guilds that don’t do that?
I’ve never been in a guild that is like “you don’t drink? You’re out!” Nor do I even know people who actually do drink or even do drugs in my guild for that matter.
I know sobriety is tough. I grew up to an addict and it does run in my family. I’ve just made the choice to not partake in anything and literally work at a brewery. Even there, they respect that I don’t drink.
Be around good people which I know you’re trying to do and stick with it. All I can say.

Plenty of WoW groups there you can join, they’ll have way more reach and info in that regard.

I mean back when I actually raided, “take a shot when ____ pulls aggro again” was a fairly common occurrance.

I used to be a pretty heavy drinker, especially when playing WoW. I’d get way too tossed and I will admit it made me do things that I now regret.
And then there was my liver literally dying on me. But, things got ironed out, almost a year sober now and I feel a lot better for it.
There may be a guild that supports what you’re looking for but if they’re like me, they’re likely not to force opinions down anyone’s throat. If people wish to booze it up, that is very well their choice. However, maybe a support group may be more your speed, a group of like minded individuals to chat with and share stories and trials you may be going through? Social media usually has a good number of them.

so your asuming large amounts of gamers are alcoholics, which isnt the case. believe it or not not everyone is a degen who drinks does drugs and sleep around like a city dweller or a californian.

Uhhh… On WoW? I’ve been playing this game for a long time, and I can’t remember a single guild, community, or group I’ve joined that didn’t have at least a few people drunk off their behinds at seemingly all times.
It’s not for me. Someone close to me was just genuinely curious if that was something that existed. They’re doing all of the things outside of game to be where they need to be. We’ve met plenty of people in game who are or would be supportive. I don’t think negatively about the gaming community at all. I myself am personally sober and have been for years. But it was a curiosity they posed to me yesterday and I wasn’t sure if perhaps there was a guild that had a focus on sobriety like that
I kind of hope not to be honest. Call me cruel or uncivilized if you must but an entire guild harping on sobriety sounds more like a afterschool special then something that exists.
It’s not that I paint gamers in a negative light. I have seen a ton of scenarios where ppl raiding or doing keys are drunk, but that’s not what my intention with this post is about. I’m a sober gamer, but someone close to me was curious if maybe there was a guild that had a focus on sobriety. They didn’t intend it in a negative way at all
From what I’ve seen, WoW can replace a negative habit with itself as some kind of crutch.
I’ve known people who went sober, and used video games as their “drug” instead.

I bet they don’t actually know how many of their groupmates are high/drunk on a regular basis.

For real. I can’t even have general chat on in my server without someone talking about how they’re playing drunk/high.

There is a guild for everyone out there. I would browse the guild finder and read the intro. That’s the good thing about WoW I think. You can find a community of like minded people. If all else fails you can start your own guild like that.
I remember there was a guild for deaf and hard of hearing people out there that couldn’t use voice chat. I believe it was called Undaunted. I remember they were some pretty good players in the bunch around 2010ish. They really bowled through heroic raids from what I remember. This is before Mythic was a thing.
I raided with a warrior back in WotLK in our guild that couldn’t hear at all. we usually picked a person to type out the strat for the pull for them. They eventually left to join that guild as it was more tailored for them.

Best bet would to be look in guild finder and check out some of the WoW FB groups, may be some there as well.
Can’t say I’ve ever run into that in game but ya never know.

This is a pretty bold assumption about what you think is going through my head, when in fact just so we’re clear I don’t think that way about people struggling with the disease of addiction at all. I personally am sober and have been for many years now, and I would never look down on someone for their own personal struggles. You also obviously have some very serious opinions of California which seems weird. I was simply asking (on behalf of someone I care about who posed the genuine curiosity to me) if perhaps there was a guild who had a focus on sobriety, not because they think all gamers are anything negative, but because they themselves are working on their sobriety and are trying to surround themselves with sober people in all facets of their life right now to help them work through their own internal chaos.
