So your tank is a Warrior

There’s a difference between tips and communication and lecturing.

There’s a toxic mentality going across tanks specifically (to a MUCH lesser extent healers or dps) where people have the need to run everyone through their own arbitrary tutorial. There are some nice tips and tricks, but when you are dolling them out before the 1st pull or firing them off while corpse running after a wipe it doesn’t do what you think it does.

Or just invite a Druid tank instead… issues go away.

Virtually never PW:S, if your tank is a durid, it kills their rage generation as well… asside from being a very mana inefficient skill. Seen a lot of priests that spam it.

A little extra help for priests:

  1. Use fade.
  2. You have Dispel Magic and Abolish Disease. I’ve seen a lot of priests just let that stuff stack and then wonder why they can’t keep the tank healed. Instead of spending ~200 mana to dispel followed by a small heal, you wind up spam healing and draining 800-1,000 mana on a 350 mana issue. (On that note, mages need to decurse. It’s not hard to see that purple box, look at it to see if it’s something nasty, and remove it.)

What’s wrong with using rend as a tank?

I’m curious about this as well. Unless it’s an inefficient rage for threat trade off I’m not sure what the issue is.

Tanks in instance groups are always sloppy and always will be sloppy in vanilla/classic. If your healer keeps up then it’s ok.

Tanks dont rule classic leveling and instancing, Healers do. You just need to worry about trying your hardest.

Had several groups with fury tanks or 2 handed even. We can kill the mobs but mana runs out faster so the extra dps does nothing to speed it up when healer has to drink every pull.

lol actually 39 now, but the forums don’t update all that often. I am also taking my time this go around. My wife and I were actually newlyweds when WoW first came out and we both rushed to 60 to go and raid.

We have teenage kids now, so less free time for sure, but it’s not horrible either. We do want to actually enjoy the ride this time though.

If I wanted to be 60 right now, I would be, even as Prot.

This exactly why every LFG post is need tank. I’m leveling a rogue and tank in classic. My tank is still way lower level and I will never tank for a PuG in classic. Tanking is already thankless enough without the silly input. The OPs advice is spot on 100% legit. If you want to have tanks available then help tanks level and follow the advice posted. You like classic with a huge tank shortage, then carry on.

My experience too has been pretty brutal with pugs. I have even tried being nice about it, but so many people take helpful advice as a straight up insult. The breaking point for me personally was when we picked up a priest for heals and they insisted on DPSing the entire instance. Which was fine… until they started to OOM and I started dying…

At which point I suggested that since I had died a couple of times due to them going out of mana, maybe it would be better if they conserved mana for the heals at least on these harder pulls. The response I got was “QQ more”.

The big thing is that a lot of groups are getting so desperate that they’re even whispering or letting tanks in that are 3+ levels lower than the highest DPS/dungeon.

On the hotting tanks thing - most warriors I’ve grouped with so far seemed to have been fine keeping group threat with it?

Putting a HoT before the tank pulls can mean the group can keep pulling even the healer is at 10-20% mana, as the healer can keep drinking and by the time needs to cast a direct heal will be at 50-60% mana.

All i read was looking for tank. Prefer paladin.

Ah the condescending master of tanking, who thinks that thunderclap is worth using.

When you’re tanking a large group, slowing their attack speed helps both the damage you take over a period of time and reduces the amount of mana a healer has to use to heal you up. So yes, it is worth using.

No. There’s just no real tips for Paladins because we’re the best class to group up with for content. If you can read at a third grade level, you can play Paladin effectively in group content.

You’re having problems with threat, not mitigation. That being said, you’ll get more mitigation from allowing your dps to attack. Don’t use thunderclap, it is not worth the rage. Get sunders up so your dps can kill mobs faster.
