So why is this word mature language?

Everyone else has already covered everything, so I guess the only thing left to do is bless this thread with a gif. :purple_heart:

You’re welcome.

I tried to use the word ‘redneck’ in a name and it was censored. I guess we have a lot of very sensitive ears playing the game or something.

I always thought urban dictionary was just memes and not meant to be taken seriously, like the onion. But oh whale people be weird.:sunglasses::clap::sunglasses:

The filter is a little whack. I was trying to make a new Zandalari the other day and tried the name Jinazi, it wouldn’t let me.

Yet a few days later I see a guy running around with an intresting name that had… I’ll say… a word for a guys manhood starting with a C right in the middle of his name and they were 120.

My take away from this is if it can in anyway seem racist that’s not okay, but being overtly sexual is okay.

It was the same in mid-80s north central Texas. There were a handful of words guaranteed to start a fight, and the J-word was definitely one of them.

People quite often find “creative” ways to bypass the filter. When you see them all you can do is report them. We have rules for a reason.

Another common way to bypass the filter is using ascii characters where its obvious to anyone what was really meant.

Jig.glypuff seen from above.

Well I’ll be darned.

another one that makes no sense is my character name without the “z”… that is like my actual f#&*$ing real name… or rather short version of it in my native language… beats me to this day… worked on classic beta just fine, but not in BFA…

But you cant change your name so why not block the actual word?

It might’ve been some kind of slang that wasn’t around back then and now they censored it. That sucks man, especially since it’s your actual name

^^^ Pretty much this, sure the first 3 letters can also mean a dance or are apart of a synonym for shake,it gets abused by the more edgy camp of people online who like to take it out of context and use said racial slur. In other words, blame people for being dumb.

maybe because it that time, it was just an abbreviated form of the full word so saying boo was also taken as saying the full form of the slur.

Companies and people are variously afraid of and triggered by slang; but any word, phrase, or acronym can be (or has been) appropriated as slang by someone.

Rational times.

@Hrumn, I wouldn’t say they’re afraid. They’re just trying to prevent bad PR. That’s something pretty much all reasonable companies do.

That’s fear of an unreasonable sociopolitical mob culture.

No, that’s being smart. Bad public relations tend to leave a nasty stain that endures for months if not longer.

The internet never forgets. There are politicians who have drup up events from 200 years ago and try and use it as an excuse to attack people who disagree with them.

Also, as the old saying goes “ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure”

I’d rather they block names that run the risks of “wow players have offensive, culturally insensitive, racially slurred names!” being a big article in, oh well say FORBES magazine.

I’ve always wondered why Ji—e was a ‘curse’ word in the US… it isn’t in Australia, as far as I know.

I won’t be looking up that which you wrote! I’m too scared now. :scream:

It’s being smart because the threat is real. The threat itself is unreasonable.

Look, if both the game and forums recognizes all or part of a name as a racial slur(not mature language) pick another or randomize and move along with your day. Non issue. Their game, their rules.

Someone somewhere got their feelings hurt and complained to Blizzard. At some point Blizzard will have half of the english language banned…
