So why is no one talking about WoW being banned in china?

I think the Chinese player base dropped after Pandari became history.

This makes me very glad to have been born in the US.

Yikes.

That’s true, Most Chinese didn’t like that XPAC; I know my brother in law quit for a little while after that was released.

Good the way blizzard is atm every country should ban wow, just shows how smart Chinese really are…

Canadian here and we seem to be caught a bit more in that Huawei pissing match by arresting the CFO because the states had her on their naughty list and those in power here just bent over and said yes oh great lord.

Other popular games, including Riot’s League of Legends and Activision Blizzard titles such as Overwatch, Diablo and World of Warcraft, were not prohibited, but instead are recommended to have “corrective action.”

obv if they lose the china market it will hurt, but there srsly ridiculous

wont happen.

WoW would run horribly on a console. I mean even its PC optimization isnt perfected yet…and you expect them to ry console optimization?

Its for the better at least Blizz won’t have to waste time and staff to censor things over there anymore and now all that time can be put into improving the game!

That’s okay, they got Diablo Immortal coming their way.

Yeah, sounds super great. Oh, tell me what happens if you make a public statement mocking the Chinese government?

They haven’t though. WoW hasn’t been banned. They’ve been advised that changes must be made to the game to comply with the ruling of ethics board, and Blizzard will make those changes as necessary. However the game remains on the market and will continue to be sold there.

They will just make a WoW mobile for them and be good lol.

Does anyone know what the changes are that are being demanded?

I know the basic “China good, capitalism bad” mantra of China and all that, also they hate gambling and black people, but beyond that what changes do they want?

Jokes at China being just awful aside, what are the changes being demanded?

The official ruling of the ethics board in regards to wow is that the game has:

  • Overly revealing female characters
  • Inharmonious chatroom

So what they (Blizzard) will have to do is alter some of the models of female characters to make them more modest, remove skimpy clothing from the game and improve chat filtering systems in china to bring it in line with what the ethics board expects. None of which will affect any client outside of China.

who else is going to farm all that gold when classic launches?

Ah, you know “Inharmonious chatroom” translates to chat which promotes discent or free thought away from Chinese propaganda and indoctrination.

-shrug- What happens in China and doesn’t affect me? Doesn’t affect me, so I generally don’t care about it. If the ethics board there wants to clamp down and make things more strict, then so be it. As long as none of the changes to their client bounce over to the US client.

Because they haven’t been. Why is it ok to lie to try and make a point?
