Well…because it’s fun, even after 40 years.
All the reasons OP listed apply, in varying amounts, at different times. It’s even a bit therapeutic at times…sometimes if I’m a bit down, I’ll pull out a character who is such a ball of positivity that it takes my whole mood with it.
Sometimes RP is about being who you want to be. Sometimes it’s about being who you need to be.
