Blood is good, so is paladin, warrior, and monk for the most part. Dh and druid really feel bad though.
-tries to establish threat on pack
-group picks targets at random to unload their rotation on
-lose threat on 2 of 6 mobs
-frantically try to reestablish aggro on peeled mobs.
-DPS runs away from me during my attempt
-reestablish threat
DPS, in their panicked fleeing aggro another pack
-Hate myself.
Tell them to wait for 3 Sunders.
SO THERE U HAVE IT BLIZZARD.
The people have spoken.
The ball is in your court to atleast adhere and try to address a major problem that is prevalent right now.
Blizzard could add more incentive to tanks, like they did with the Warmode bonus to the outnumbered faction.
Without making fundamental changes to the game, blizzard just has to make tanking attractive enough to balance the increased pressure and responsibility of tanking. Extra Azerite, resources, gold, items, etc.
Such an addition wouldn’t be that difficult to implement because Blizz already keeps track of what spec you complete dungeons in.
Example: successfully complete a mythic+ dungeon with tank spec and receive double Azerite and an additional item in your weekly chest, etc.
I decided not to push mythic + this expansion as much and tried to get my group of to friends that raided with me in legion to gear up/get into mythics. I knew if I was capping my weekly chest without them I wouldn’t have as much incentive to push through the keys with them( one friend always drinks playing wow and inevitably pulled thanks to starfall and moonfire tab target spam) making them not always smooth and enjoyable. Legion Mythics were way more forgiving and after Nightwell my Blood DK could practically solo bosses on +10. BFA being way less forgiving with mistakes and classes being boring made all but one friend quit after they beat normal Ghun and after those experiences I’ve just given up on caring about pushing keys this expansion instead just leveling horde alt warrior and paladin tanks to maybe play. Unless you’re pushing high end content there is no reason to want high end gear thanks to all the scaling in PvE and PvP. You can cap out on WQs ilvl rewards and get welfare heroic gear so easy what’s the point in trying when classes aren’t as fun.
I think it’s really got to do with the community. It’s super toxic at the moment. I’ve got a halfway decently geared Blood DK, and I’m really leary(sp?) of trying to pug anything with him. Thankfully I’ve got a pretty good group of friends that I run with, so it’s ok if I mess up a little here and there while i’m learning.
I tank everyday on my Prot Warrior for the most part, but I 99% of the time only do so by starting my own groups. When I play this MW and try to join groups I see all too often poor choices being made for group comps for M+. Just yesterday I joined a group and the leader picked 2 locks and a boomie for Shrine +9, so I said sorry and left.
Also everything else that has likely been said above regarding tanks having more responsibility, people being generally rude/bad/unwilling to learn mechanics, etc.
This totally make sense. One of the biggest tank gripes I see in dungeons is if the tank stops to look at a map, or simply takes the wrong turn.
People seem to expect tanks to intuitively know exactly how to navigate any dungeon, even in new content. A stupid assumption IMO.
-any speaking up on my part about waiting for threat or patrol is ignored and then met with either silence or “Pull faster”
You can blame blizzard for that as well. It doesnt help putting m+ dungeons on a 30min timer. People automatically eant to finish on time or even ideally 2-3 chest it.
Tanking is overall in a bad place…
Where is the true merit when u are always leading with a heavy burden in a high stress environment?
I love tanking on my bear! Having fun being able to get into groups. Where as im dps id be lf a tank for hrs or get declined from everything
That reason alone in surprised more people don’t switch
Hope 8.2 brings some good tank changes and balance.
Is this at max level? And how are you liking the bear tank compared to any of your other tanks - if you’ve got ‘em?
Community perception has it that bears are bad, but the truth is it’s boring to play, from what I’ve been told. Problem is most people will favorite what’s seen as the best class/spec to play, sometimes without trying to understand why.
Fun for me /shrug
I honestly want to try Guardian and see for myself. Currently leveling as Resto, but once I get decently geared at 120 I’ll gear up for Guardian as my off spec.
Yeah def try it out. Ive tried bdk and pally and find them sluggish and boring
Could just be my pref. But ive had healers give me praise for saying i was easy to heal and they didnt have to stress
Edit: most i do is heroic raids and 10-11 keys. Gonna see how far i can go but 12 keys start to hurt. And gonna try mythic now that its cross realm!
I’ve been doing a ton of keys this week. Pugging into what group will take me as a tank on 3 or 4 toons. Really getting a feel for it all…The tank might can handle big pulls and the healer might can handle big pulls but I’ve only had 1 or 2 groups that had the DPS to handle big pulls. I’m not talking 1 person who is undergeared and trying their best. I’m talking people who should know better just “phoning” it in because they are helping someone with their 3 or 4 or 5.
I really don’t understand what point you are trying to make here, Jareth. And I am not referring to mythic key dungeons anyway, but to ‘old-style’ dungeons before they introduced mythics, meaning normal and heroic only. What you guys do in higher keys is beyond me, so responding to my post as if I am talking about mythics is a waste of a response. I am posting about tanking in general, and how it used to be before all this mythic nonsense.
TBH… guardian is still pretty good. This notion that guardian cant tank isnt accurate. They have some weaknesses… but still very viable. But moreso its the perception that guardian tanks cant tank that pisses me off.
