Typically in PvP when you trap, you’ll be at full focus unless the healer is, for some reason, is standing on top of you. I guess you could use steel trap or tar trap offensively, for the focus gain. But then you wouldn’t have them situationally.

Unless I’m missing something (probably), trap legendary doesn’t seem great for pvp. Especially with how stupid strong Craven is.

Agreed. Craven is by far he best for Arenas, for BGs you can probably just go with Rylak or WFC for the big damage and lols. Nessingway is a PvE only, I just can’t see it being reliable in any other content.

Survival hunter’s focus recover is in kill command - which requires a living pet.

Any PvP opponent that knows this will take out your pet first, which heavily marginalizes your character.

Mostly you get away with this now because the spec is so rare people don’t know how it works… But it only takes one person on the other side of a BG knowing your spec for you to get wrecked.

I’ve done exactly one BG this expansion, wintergrasp. I did massive amounts of damage after an initial rough start (folks ranged me down with ease until I figured out what was going on and switched my approach). Once I was in my zone I was wrecking through them and they started trying to get me - but not a single person went after my pet… so I spent a lot of time close to focus capped.

If my pet had been down, they could have just walked around me and not even bothered. In fact it’d be smarter to NOT kill me, but just interrupt my pet summon and keep attention elsewhere.

I suspect in a month or two more people in BGs will know how survival regens focus, and if they see a survival hunter that is doing any decent amount of harm to them, just get the pet and keep an interrupt ready for the summon.

With this legendary I would be able to get around that.

  • that’s why it will be important in PvP. Because critics of survival are right about one thing - our focus regen is ‘too exposed’ for us to be really viable in PvP once people know about it.

So I also don’t have a lot of PvP experience with Survival, but I’ve never had anyone kill my pet so far, people tend to be focusing on other things. In high level arena things will likely change, but:

  1. I won’t be playing high level arena (I am just not nearly good enough)
  2. High level arena seems to be more about coordinating Gos and burst, meaning your pet will be alive for those and if someone is targeting your pet a that time, it means you are open to burst them’
  3. I did find a few high level Arena SV Hunters who swear by Craven, and the reason being is you can use Disengage + 15 second CD FD + Camo to always reset combat and Rez your pet from Stealth if it dies during an early Go.

So seems good enough for me I guess :man_shrugging:

I guess I kinda see your reasoning, but our pets are than just dmg. Your going to need it for utility. Also if all you your going to do is bgs, WfB lego will be crazy good for them.
