So when -is- the Horde going to be in the story? [spoilers]

Oof, pushed things too far with this one for me to think you are posting in good faith. You cannot seriously sit there and claim that the Horde being forced to follow Tyrande, as she repeatedly spits on the Horde PC, for Val’sharah “was 10 years ago”, then bring up Thrall in Cata? Jeezus Alliance players, it was 9 quests. 4 of them were “your princess is another castle”. Then his role in the final raid. We spent far more time with Malf and the NE Wild Gods between Hyjal and FLs than we ever did with Thrall in Cata.

Also, here’s some easy newer ones. Dagran, Moira and Magni in Ringing Deeps. Anduin in Hollowfall. Alleria throughout near all of TWW. Also, before Liadrin in ZA, when was the last time the Alliance were tasked with following solely Horde-aligned characters for even a single questline? Not even a zone, just a questline? Can you say … Vol’jin and Bwon’s one questline in Ardenweald IF you chose the Nightfey? FFS, there are actually four expacs you could just write the Horde out of entirely, and barely need to change a thing.

EDIT: And I think Syeg’s point here is that in storytelling there is a difference between the story being told, and the setting its being told in. Yes, Midnight is taking place in a Horde Capital. Thus, there are naturally going to be many BE NPCs and Questgivers. But functionally? No, Syeg is right. The Story is primarily focused atm on: Arator, Turalyon, and Alleria. With a secondary cast of Umbric, Faol and various members of the AotL. Yeah, it is a bit of a bog-standard “Alliance savior” story so far; just they happen to be savioring a Horde race this time. While the greater Horde just doesnt exist, for no given reason? In defense of one of their greatest allies? Neat!

Not quite.

The absence of Horde members is a big part of the problem, but the more glaring issue is that even in Horde lands the story is centered on Alliance themes. Instead of a blatantly obvious Horde NPC just screaming to be the star of this expansion, we get … Arator, because this is a story about Alleria. People were upset about the Delve companion being an Alliance character, so we get … Valeera, personal spy of former and (eventually, again?) current High King of the Alliance.

The resolution of this very patch cycle involves the Blood Elves desperate for assistance. Do they turn to their allies, one of the world’s two superpowers? Nope, they turn to the Night Elves and sacrifice the cornerstone of their culture so that all elves can vomit rainbows all over the carcass of this narrative or something.

This is akin to the Baine issue writ large—he is a Horde character but written to appeal to an Alliance perspective. I think that fairly summarizes Midnight, except for ZA, which is fully centered on trolls.

There’s tons of Blood Elves in Eversong you deal with.
Liadrin and Halduron are throughout Zul’Aman.

Anywhere, they are just using the Sunwell for another purpose, as we found out in the spoilers. The expansion was build around revamping the city there was no reason it needed to be here.

Where is the symmetrical treatment for the alliance wiping out a horde race like the horde did to the night elves? Why doesn’t the alliance get to destroy a horde city? Counterpoint to Theramore? Southshore? Silverwing? Azshara? etc. Just Taurajo? In terms of cities and towns lost, the alliance lost way more, it’s not even comparable.

You can remove Turalyon and nothing changes, Liadrin and Halduron are there to create alliances with the Zandalari and Haranir, the alliance basically only does anything in the void zone, that special Arator zone served no purpose.

It’s not, the army of the light is just a mishmash of everyone, outside of Velen the only time the draenei (who should be the army of the light) even show up is at the very end of the voidstorm when you complete the zone. It’s all about the blood elves and the horde, and it will be even more so with the max level storyline.

Malfurion was neutral in firelands as well, he ignored the horde destroying Ashenvale and even fought night elves who were angry about it. Thrall was not neutral, he introduced the goblins to the horde, and even in that quest he’s screaming about destroying Stormwind when you have to quest with his wife. He was far from neutral, but he was the god they needed to be the aspect to destroy deathwing, Malfurion was never that important.

Follow the conversation, he brought up Tyrande, I’m just giving other examples. Tyrande never spat on the horde player, she was angry for like the first line of dialogue and then got over it and the quest was mainly the same as the alliance but you will still cry about it 10 years later as she genocided horde the same way Sylvanas did to the night elves. It’s insane.

He’s functionally not correct at all, we are following around horde characters right now in ZA and Harandar, not to mention getting all our quests from Lor’themar. What you people always try to do is downplay any horde involvement and pretend like there is no horde in the expansion build entirely around a horde city and zone revamps just so they don’t have to give a city revamp to the alliance. They have to somehow shoehorn some alliance into the expansion that is based entirely around the blood elves and silvermoon.

Lor’themar should be going through his post Purge of Dalaran phase again except even harder tbh. No reason why he should be sitting /afk in the Sanctum of Light.

I’m still hoping desperately that Azeroth is not the explanation here (or in Harandar), but I know better.

Hm? Why not? She’s been the driving force of this expansion trilogy so far.

Because it means Azeroth thinks 95% Alliance and 5% Horde defenders is a good call.

And I absolutely loathe the notion that the peoples tied most closely to Azeroth are Other Night Elf Danuser Copy-Pastes that didn’t exist until this expansion trilogy.

The Alliance did genocide Dazar’alor.
Talanji flat out says the Alliance killed so many of her people that she has the gold to arm an army, but no one to arm.

And the Alliance isn’t raked over the coals for it.

Yeah, I don’t get why Azeroth would call up a bunch of Light users + any player who isn’t using a Light resource using class. It’s part of the reason why I’m not taking the first main campaign quest, because what would a Druid have anything to do with any of this?

To be fair, none of the other Haranir besides Orweyna have even heard from Azeroth directly, so they’re not any closer related to Azeroth than anyone else hearing the Radiant Song, which seems to be just about anyone at the moment according the NPCs in the capitals that were talking about it during the first pre-patch quest.

The only instance we have of “The Light” mass teleporting someone before was Beledar. The only instance of an entity singing a radiant song to us before was Beledar (according to Anduin, anyhow). I’m hoping that remains true and is not something that got shuffled around to actually be Azeroth all along. I’m hoping Aln’hara is not Azeroth, but is only being made to seem like Azeroth for an as of yet unrevealed reason.

If I’m being blunt, I feel like this game has fumbled Tauren so hard for so long that they are owed some significance/relevance to the cosmic A Plot nonsense. An’she and Azeroth are basically the only two worthwhile cards left to play at this point. They both figure prominently in Tauren faith. Also kinda seems like they’re making the Arathi and Haranir the tie-ins there, and that would be garbage imo.

Probably worth mentioning that K’aresh sang a Radiant Song and was a chunk of crystal in its weakened state, though.

Hm? Vereesa got visions from Azeroth through the Radiant Song, as we saw before the pre-patch. And everyone keeps saying they hear the Radiant Song, from Jaina to Thrall to random NPCs on the streets.

Though I never did the Hallowfall quests, or any of the main War Within campaign, so I must admit not actually knowing anything about Beledar except that the Titans called it just a chunk of Azerite.

Anduin notes the song is coming from Beledar in Hallowfall, and the shore under it is where Orweyna goes to commune with her goddess.

Vereesa was up on the surface when she got her visions, and I don’t think the people in Stormwind or Orgrimmar have ever been to Hallowfall.

They didn’t, they went out of their way to not kill civilians and mostly targeted the military, show me where they were targeting all the civilians. Meanwhile the horde goes to Brennadam specifically to kill civilians only as there was no military there, we don’t even have to talk about how they just burned the entirety of Teldrassil which is much more than just a city and sped up the flame with Shaman in order to kill as many civilians as they could.

Since LEGION*

bfa onyl had horde at all because HORDE BAD HOW DARE YOU BE HORDE

Chungah.
The Dark Irons were specifically walking off of the warpath to set civilians on fire.
