So when -is- the Horde going to be in the story? [spoilers]

Title. Early impression of Midnight is.. laughable. You could be forgiven for thinking the Blood Elves aren’t part of the Horde in Midnight. We end up following Arator and Umbric throughout Eversong, whilst the Horde itself doesn’t bother defending its allies. So far, Zul’aman is the only zone that highlights the Horde with Liadrin as the main supporting character.

They’re not. See, when they said this is only the first chapter and Horde will get theirs, they meant Undermine, Silvermoon, and Zul’Aman.

I am not at all surprised they kept Arator’s family drama campaign. Ah yes, Arator being sad that his daddy almost killed him after he jumped infront of a blow for Zul’jan is totally > a campaign about getting the Kor’kron rallied.

Someone missed the memo. Arator IS Horde, didn’t you know? Look at that haircut! It just screams, ‘Lok’tar Ogar!’

Now the Horde has it’s own perfect golden cryboi of the light, and its own Windrunner again! Isn’t this just grand? Such great story-telling.

(In case it wasn’t obvious, that was sarcasm. Internet is a bad place for it).

The sarcasm was obvious, but following Arator around is still laughable when his animated short explicitly painted him as Alliance.

The greater Horde other than the occasional Blood Elf is unlikely at least until after Season 2 I feel. And even then I’d only count on one character again who dips out after a short story line.

Cant wait for the inevitable shaming questline where the BEs get pissed at the Horde for betraying them, and not coming to their aid in their time of need.

I’ll be so annoyed!

I think their plan is to just ignore us until they get to the point where they can dissolve the factions - which, judging by the (AMAZING) writing, seems to be the eventual goal.

I don’t think we’re ever going to actually get any ‘real’ content, focused on us, unfortunately. The best days for us Horde players are behind us.

It’s clear their crop of writers don’t want to write for us, especially because there’s elements of the Horde that can be construed as ‘problematic’ in consideration to the modern world.

This expansion, which really was the hype for me back when I watched Metzen hype up the trilogy during that Blizcon; I mean, I thought, “FINALLY! AND QUEL’THALAS, SUNWELL?! SIN’DOREI?!”

And then, this is what we got. 90% of my characters have been Blood Elves since they were released, and IN the expansion where I’d assume they’d be the center-post, it’s Pointy-Eared Anduin who was retconned into always having been part of the Horde.

The only salvageable part of this expansion, to me, has been Zul’aman and the Amani. That entire zone, and every part of it, was amazing. I’m not going to pretend that I’m not a big fan of the Amani, but Zul’aman, at least, was a masterpiece.

Everything else has been a letdown - and when I’d built my expectations so high over the assumptions this expansion would have things to do with the Sin’dorei and not just have them relegated into background geographical locations while Alleria’s son is running the show… I mean, you build your expectations high (which is my bad, I should have known), and the fall is that much harsher.

At the same time, though… I really get that feeling this is going to be the breaking point for a lot of Horde players. Why Blizzard’s so absolutely blind to that - I mean, that’s anyone’s guess.

Why does it matter? You would find a reason to disqualify any Horde involvement. I’m surprised you even gave them any credit for Zul’aman.

How does Liadrin’s involvement in Zul’Aman count as Horde, but the entire expac being set in Silvermoon not count?

Different people have different metrics by what they consider content to be relevant to one faction or the other.

In the case of Midnight, we’re seeing Umbric (Alliance) get screen time, as are the Ren’dorei, and we’re also seeing Arator get the lion’s share of attention (though he’s totally Horde, guys, like, for real. Lor’themar’s totally a second dad to him and the favorite!).

Meanwhile actual Horde characters aren’t doing much or coming off in a great light. Pretty sure Salandria has been completely sidelined. Liadrin is just… bewilderingly ignorant of the Amani, considering the Amani are an ancient enemy of the elves. Lor’themar pays a lot of lip service to saying the, ‘right,’ lines, but doesn’t DO anything beyond that. Rommath’s completely justified mistrust of Umbric and the Void Elves is now being framed in a way so that it can be swept under the rug as romantic drama, Aethas is letting the Silver Covenant into the city, etc… Halduron may be one of the few getting any real positive attention, but that’s overshadowed by the new elves. Wild Elves.

So, yes. Location, culture-expanding quests, etc… all very Blood Elf oriented, and they’re part of the Horde (which is why we have those gigantic red Horde flags all over the city, because we might forget). Character development wise? Horde characters aren’t coming out of Midnight’s initial patch all that great.

Because virtually everything is lip-service at best. Arator’s family drama is a legitimate who cares. Why am I helping Arator get over his family drama when the Horde should be mustering up forces to defend their allies? Even Gilneas and Bel’ameth had the Alliance roll up in force. The Blood Elves though? They can get screwed, I guess.

She is, from everything I’ve seen; she’s just at the Sunwell and that’s it.

I honestly thought the Void was going to be attacking the entire planet like the Legion did, so everyone would be defending their own cities. Turns out I was wrong, and the rest of the Horde, even the Nightborne, see what’s going on in Quel’Thalas and just… shrug.

I’m sure ten years after Midnight we’ll get a lore book that says the Horde were instrumental in defending Quel’Thalas from the Void, that they showed up in force and protected the Sunwell and Silvermoon, etc… Doesn’t change what we’re experiencing in the game.

I’ve said this before, you could be forgiven for thinking the Blood Elves weren’t Horde in Midnight. I wouldn’t be surprised if the topic of leaving it comes up even in passing, tbh.

Would have been nice if they had some old orc with ties to the Amani from WC2 fill the troll ambassador role.

I miss orcs.
