From what I understand, the original plan was that Vol’jin would have gone missing and they were going to have Sylvanas seize the Horde. However there is no context as to how they would have gone about it and why the rest of the Horde would have accepted this.
Its possible that their inability to figure that out led to the more simpler option of killing Vol’jin and him appointing her as his replacement.
I don’t think that has to be as high of a hurdle as it seems. As long as there are troll characters involved in a story, they can feature loa and Vol’jin by having the character invoke them.
For example: Drustvar has nothing to do with trolls, but we still got an impressive show of voodoo there because the trolls were the Horde forces involved in invading. Stormwind and its navy isn’t troll-related, but Talanji got a heck of a cinematic invoking Rezan to fight them.
I think one of the larger problems with Loa’jin is figuring out which other troll characters will be involved in the story alongside him - and that’s something that can start now, by featuring some known troll characters as supporting characters in the current story so that it feels natural when they take the spotlight later.
Night Elves got bad writing from Bfa until Dragonflight.
We want the Night Elves from Warcraft 3 not these “hippies” we got in WoW and who need a genocide and the whole destruction of one of their capital to be the Night Elves from Warcraft 3 for 2 patch.
SL was uselss for Night Elves. Even Tyrande was a joke. Elune did nothing to help them. And the Night Warrior was just a cosmetic.
DF forced the Night Elves to give up their ancestral homeland and Kalimdor to go in the other side of the world to get a ridiculous small village as new capital when they already have a capital in Kalimdor: Hyjal. The Blood Elves didn’t abandon Silvermoon, Stormwind was rebuilt many times, Forsaken didn’t abandon Undercity after the New Plague on it. Why Night Elves couldn’t take Hyjal as new capital over this small village in the other side the world?
Of course, don’t forget Malfurion. Always captured or sleeping. He’s the most powerful druid in the world and even against Fyrraka, he does nothing and goes to sleep in the Shadowlands. It was an expansion about the druids and the Emerald Dream but no, Malfurion needs to be out again.
Not a capital mostly when we have Hyjal. It’s just a little village in the other side of the world. Night Elves leave their ancestral homeland and Kalimdor just to live in a little village in an unknown land on the other side of the world. Why can’t just they use Hyjal in Kalimdor as new capital?
For what? Nothing. This tree is related to the dragons and the Dragon Isles now not the Night Elves.
Already read it. Doesn’t change the fact their capital is on the Dragon Isles now and not in Kalimdor anymore.
About bad writing? Because Malfuriona and Tyrande were a joke in Val’shara. Also many “hippies” Night Elves here too.
Be humiliated constantly when he’s the most powerful druid in the world is worst than death. Better to give him a nice death and stop all these humiliations.
Neutral village with vendors no one will use.
Forsaken will get a new HD reworked Undercity with many new things and I’m all for it for them. Night Elves won’t get this and will be locked in this ridiculous village when they could get a HD reworked Hyjal.
I really hope Night Elves won’t a part of Midnight and they got this small village as new capital just to be near of Quel’thalas because we “need it” for the story.
Midnight needs to be on Blood Elves and Forest Trolls. Nothing else.
Also don’t forget to give us Forest Trolls as playable race for the Horde in Midnight. It’s on my wishlist for Midnight and I will be sad if we don’t get them for this expansion.
I’d put my money on Zekhan. He’s the only DSpear I’m aware of that has a unique model and has been more or less MIA from the plot since Shadow’s Rising with the exception of an embarrassing part in Exploring Kalimdor and a cameo at Lord wedding so brief I had to double check if it even happened.
There’s Rokhan of course but he’s felt very Captain Placeholder. Really what I want from him is another team up with Rexxar. They had a whole buddy cop campaign in WC3 and haven’t shared any screentime since.
And then there’s the Zandalari who don’t fit neatly into this. Can’t imagine they’re thrilled he absorbed the essence of their Jesusaurus Rex. Vol’Jin and the Darkspear are a lot of things but they’re not opulent, imperial, and far as I can tell have never had anything called a king. So still a weird choice to dissolve Rezan in favor of giving Vol’Jin his powers.
Rushing is probably not the right word, but moreso hoping they don’t hamfist a story for the sake of getting it done and relegating it as a ‘side story’, like with my previously provided examples of Lordaeron and Gilneas. Gilneas was in limbo since Cata, but instead of making it an epic event in the story, it just left us all confused.
Lordaeron’s reclaimation wasn’t nearly as bad, but we haven’t seen hide nor hair of it mentioned since it was reclaimed aside from some very brief bits in the Forsaken heritage quest.
My point being, something as big as Vol’jin’s return shouldn’t be relegated to a side story just because people want it now.
I’m not disagreeing, it’s long overdue. Embarassingly so. However, Gilneas’ conclusion honestly sucked and felt super rushed for the sake of tying up a loose end.
I’d really rather not have Vol’jin’s arc be relegated to a ‘loose end’.
Portals to Feralas, Val’shara, Hyjal, Darkshore and Stormwind. Literally right now exploring on my own Nelf toon.
Got nothing since Legion. That was 8 years ago.
Not in the lore. The only Horde NPC in Bel’ameth is Hamuul and none in Gilneas. High elf fans are currently thirsting to turn Silvermoon into the next Dalaran however which is what I fear most.
No source. No argument. Just your own thinking. Undercity is still locked behind a door. Blizzard only ever does the actual needed MINIMUM on world building when it comes to Horde races. Zuldazar showed this. The rest of Zandalari is hostile and can’t be inhabitated.
If I see Umbric Mystra help me there will be dead people.
They’re capable. They just don’t want to after BfA. Probably has to do with not wanting to deal with the backlash of trying to make the horde heroic again after BfA. Would feel kinda tone deaf.
But who knows. It’s definitely intentional that blizz only includes a handful of horde characters in small arcs here and there
