He wants Death, his Plane, to control all the other Planes, or be the only Plane left. He’s spoken of breaking the cycle and Sylvanas, likely influenced by the piece of her soul that he had in his mitts, was blinded into believing he wants to break the cycle of life and death.
However, what I think he’s referring to is the cycle of Creation and Destruction, ergo the Light and the Void having a massive war, ending the universe, resting, and then reforming in a new state and clashing again to start a new universe. When we kill him, that will lead into the Light and Void expansion.

Nope! Hated that too, lol

Speculatively:
I’m not a fan of that approach but I can’t help but view the Jailer as Thanos now that he’s acquired all his Infinity Stones to reshape reality. If it plays out like Avengers, that makes it likely someone’s going to perform their own snap - likely someone in his final raid encounter steals the power away from him for a moment and does so.
If such a scenario comes to pass, Sylvanas seems the likely candidate to essentialy retcon Shadowlands and BfA from the mortal planes of existence. It would also allow her to neatly abscond.
What’s funny is that the base lore for WoW actually violently copies DC Comics in a lot of ways (e.g. Emerald Dream vs The Dreaming + The Green, Trigon wanting Azarath vs Sargeras wanting Azeroth)
There’s a complex DC vs Marvel joke in there somewhere

Yes, the game was meant to be very comic-book-like, which is why the characters are so stylized and “easy to draw,” comics/novels were always meant to be an accompanying media. But sheesh, I wish they had limited it to copying Marvel/DC comics.
This dollar store Thanos, based off of the movie version of Thanos (yikes) is seriously bumming me out. I liked Thanos better when he was simping for Lady Death, and she was just like “you’re so basic… I love Deadpool, BYYYYEEE.”
The joke is that DC steals from history, Marvel steals from DC, WoW steals from Marvel. It’s a vicious cycle.

If we’re on the topic of pop culture, my secret prediction from day one of Shadowlands has been that Blizzard’s goal is have Sylvanas act out the final episode of Lucifer season 4 at the end of the expansion. Or at least, her story “ends” like Lucifer’s did in that season.
Wait And See.™
They might get around to explaining it by 9.3. Or a few years from now in a tweet, or piece of side media.
Well the next book to be release is Grimoire. So, to a degree I think you will be right and pretty important spoiler will be in that book.
It’s just a rewrite of The Wizard of Oz. And not a very good one at that.
Zovaal is the Tin Man who needs a heart. Blizzard writers being who they are, depicted this so literally (a huge hole in his chest) that no-one could miss it. As we see in the cinematic, he turns into a spiky (but recognisably) Tin Man when he gets his heart.
Sylvanas is the Scarecrow who needs a brain. Again, Blizzard wrote her to make sure everyone was aware she’s a freaking moron who’s lucky to be able to walk and breath at the same time. She fell for the most obvious villain - hook, line and sinker. She’s chaotic stupid, burning world trees on a whim and wanting everyone else to be slaves except her (and is shocked when her evil master turns out to want her to serve).
Not sure who needs courage. Perhaps Anduin is the Cowardly Lion, who keeps failing to step up when the universe needs him. Tyrande would agree with that.
And we’re Dorothy, traipsing down the yellow brick road Blizzard have set in front of us. We get to take a few steps every week as we sing “Follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road!”
The Wizard of Oz is the plot. You keep thinking it’ll resolve and you’ll get what you need, but it’s all an illusion. There’s no substance there, ignore the man behind the curtain. There’s only disappointment from a flim-flam man.

Creating a new reality with his own rules and himself as the ruler over his creation.
Typical tyrant stuff so far.
The fact they didn’t even have plansfor Sylvanas Story at the start of this year tells you everything.
The Jailor is boring and we know almost nothing about him.
So what, exactly, is Zovaal’s plan?
Zovaal COULD have killed his siblings when he first tried to take their sigils, he could have killed his siblings again this expansion, but again he choose not to.
He could’ve killed Bolvar, Thrall and Jania, but again choose not to.
He even gave Slyvanas back her soul!
He’s setting up his own redemption arc!
Just because you’re badguy, doesn’t mean you’re “bad guy.”

to torment NE fans in the story forums…duh. lol
Does End reality = End Time?
That’s the vibe I got, too. I was under the impression that Sylvanas wanted true freedom, and he offered it. She was tired of the illusion of choice, when there actually was none.
It wasn’t until that last moment that stuff started clicking with her, that the dude she’s been following was actually worse.
The jailer wants to rule over all reality. That much is obvious. Either follow him willingly, or bend to his will. That’s who he is. That’s what his realm was. He wants everything to be the maw.
There’s probably more to it than that, but that’s the general idea that he’s throwing out there.
If the runecarver part of this patch is any indicator, slaying them would also make their sigils disappear. The Primus threatened such. He also said that they could create new sigils. Interested to see how that comes into play.
I was wondering about that too, but I thought… well Dentharius was set to be killed in the raid… until Blizzard “liked” the voice actor so much they decided to keep him around.
While it’s not the case now, it could have been set up so successors gained control over the realms after the titans die, such as Prince Renathal.
naw…his heart is the heart of the forest…hence why his chestpiece looks almost nature/Night Fae/Drust look to it.
Zovaal was the original Arbiter of the Shadowlands. He was seemingly responsible for judging souls and sending them to their afterlife. He was given this task by his makers, the First Ones. (They are essentially gods of our entire WoW universe). Zovaal would eventually grow to hate the First Ones and one day decided he’d had enough of serving the First Ones’ “purpose” (that nobody really gets).
Zovaal would then look more into First One stuff, and would come across the Sepulcher of the First Ones. Zovaal believed the Sepulcher held knowledge that could help him create his own separate reality where he wasn’t a servant but a ruler. He’d then ask his fellow Eternal Ones to give their sigils to him so he could use them as keys to unlock this Sepulcher to obtain said knowledge. When the rest of the Eternal Ones declined so as to not reject their “purpose” Zovaal grew violent. He would violently lash out at his siblings, and the conflict grew so large that the Primus would have to utilize a form of magic that the Eternal Ones had gifted specifically to him and only him. Domination Magic, the very magic used right now to force Anduin to follow the Jailer’s bidding.
At the end of the fight between the Eternal Ones, the Primus led the Eternal Ones to eventually defeating Zovaal, and in the aftermath Domination runes were inscribed all across Zovaal’s body to keep him bound within Torghast, Tower of the Damned for all eternity.
Now, Zovaal seeks to break free and do what he originally intended. Tear down all realities and make one unified reality where he is the ruler.

What if the Arbiter’s job was made up after his banishment? Meaning that the eternal ones each had their own role to play in their regions in Shadowlands.
Archon - Ferried souls into the Shadowlands for those souls who were ready to move on (No unfinished business)
Primus - the architect of Shadowlands and reasonable for its defenses.
Winter Queen - the executor and protector of souls to be reincarnated
Sire Denathrius - The original jailer. The one who tormented evil souls to atone for their sins.
Zovaal - Death’s champion and the wisest of all of the Eternal Ones. WoW’s version of Virgil. Showed souls around the Shadowlands freed to decide for themselves where they want to go.
What if the other EOs got greedy and overthrew the original design of death to keep more anima for themselves? Banished Zovaal to the Maw, stripping him of his power and influence for eternity through the creation of the sigils. (If the sigils are made by the First ones, then how can they recreate the sigils?)
I think the new tomes of the Brokers…especially Al’firim. I think he is going to find out that the EOs are Titans. If broker’s pursuit of knowledge is their sole purpose, how can there be heresy laws that challenge their most basic of understandings?
I think the bigger question is which reality is he talking about? The reality in shadowlands, our reality, or another reality of a different plane…the seventh cosmic force?
