So uh... what is gold used for?

Consumes, mounts, crafting gear. All three are the biggest sinks especially consumes. With raid teams wanting to clear things fast there’s tons of money to be made from flasks and PvP requires consumes too such as FAPs and Bombs. Crafters buy tons of their needed materials to level up their crafting and at endgame have to use those expensive materials such as arcane crystals and golden pearls to make great endgame armor or weaponry. Even though mages AoE farm a lot, the economy seems pretty good so far. Also leveling alts costs money as well to gear and upgrade them.

Well uh, you could give me your gold if it’s got nowhere to go, I mean it’s a real pain but I guess I could help you out.

every guild and pug demand people to use consumables, roughly 50g at min. And current raids don’t even need them to complete, i’m so tired.

DME herb runs would be good if u lvled herbing. Or mara shroom farm.

Twinking a toon can be costly. Also, just leveling another toon and keeping it geared while leveling comes to mind. Keeping gear relatively current, leveling the professions and buying the skills/mounts…

In the end, there are plenty of ways to spend money in the game. Once you start putting effort into some of the things I and others have suggested, your reserves will drop, as you’re not focusing on the farm.

If you have a warrior or a ret pally, buy the mats to craft Nightfall, or Hand of Rag (provided you can secure the right drop!)

I spend 100g per week on respects alone. 150g per week on consumables for raid. Those are just the big ones. Not including enchants on new gear.

Mounts, consumables, and alts !
