Game needs to start with Tier 4 delves, so actual rules in delves are clear (limited revives).
Tier 1 to 3 does not offer visible progression or noticed value, and are an otherwise “arbitrary” treadmill/tollbooth.

I’ve had mixed experience with the delves. I do like the concept, as I have long felt that mostly solo players (like myself) should have some option to experience some of the end game content—realizing the game is intended to be multiplayer, it isn’t always possible to consistently find agreeable times and groups of players to play it.
As OP pointed out, though, one (IMO) huge oversight is the utter lack of a tanking option for the companion (at least, I have only ever seen DPS & Heal options for the companion, unless I’ve missed something, which is certainly possible). With my Guardian Druid, I’ve had good times in the delves. With my Fire Mage, no way. Probably different with a heal alt, as they could (IIRC) all just switch specs temporarily to tank, but a pure DPS class like the mage is basically never going to have a good time here, from my experience at least.
biggest issue with them is there not this different dynamic re playable system that was hyped up to be. There reward less, small dungeons with weird torgast mechanics in some of them. The idea that people are going to grind these as a end game system is sort of a joke, i am bored of them already and season 1 isnt even ready yet, but higher tiers isnt going to make it better, harder doesnt = more fun or different.
It is exactly what it was on alpha and beta. I don’t get why the wow community never believes what the testers tell them.
I don’t mind them but they do seem like a more boring version of torghast.
So I’m doing them now because a lot of people are saying that it’s going to be a good source of gear starting next week (I mostly do dungeons/raids because I like group content like that). Even as a solo experience, it’s downright frustrating and unfun imo. The exploding spore ones are so annoying, and the underwater ones are visually sickening with the constant blur/distortion effects going on with the water, and there are so many of these too. The objectives aren’t really fun nor engaging either, it’s the same old “interact with 5 things” or “kill 5 things” or “gather 5 things”. And then on top of all of this, Brann won’t shut up.
Idk, I feel like if these mechanics showed up in M+, I’d hate them too. No idea what prompted them to design these specific kinds of encounters. It’s neither fun nor engaging.
I’d rather run delves then dungeons like Dawnbreaker on repeat.
I actually like delves, they’re like mini-dungeons that I don’t have to stress over. I usually do them to unwind after a tough BG.
I’m really enjoying delves.
My biggest annoyance with it is bran just doesn’t focus on healing, he will let you die everytime so what’s even the point of having him as a healer? Just to throw potions a mile away from the fight?
Brann is SO worthless as a healer. He’ll use his massive healing cd when you’re at 100% health fighting a single mob right before a big pack/boss. It’s so frustrating.
Yeah, this is not a good solo option for a pure DPS. I am not the world’s best fire mage, I might actually be the worst, in fact (probably not that either). But even doing reasonable DPS in T4 gear, in a T3 delve, I am getting absolutely annihilated. Delves I’ve done before, and know the mechanics of, are just basically impossible solo in my experience, at least as a DPS. This entire mechanic needs a serious re-think.
Imagine thinking that you should breeze through solo end game content that ends up with Heroic Raid gear in the first week of the season. It’s. Called. Progression.
Torghast was boring. The floors were the same. The trash was way too numerous and the same. There were far too many floors. Highest levels in early patches were completely RNG dependent. Please don’t ever give them any ideas that ANYTHING from that heap of garbage can be redeemed.
Island Expeditions and MoP Scenario’s were WAY better
it’s not THAT it’s challenging. Challenge is very good.
it’s HOW it’s challenging. Delves are only hard because mobs auto attack you for a third of your life and web bolt you for two thirds of your life. Dont have a short cd interrupt? Get wrecked. Don’t have self healing? Get wrecked
It’s a lazy, dog water way to make content “hard” without making it fun or rewarding (outside of the literal gear rewards). It’s a failure of imagination and effort.
this is called growing up
other games have delves and they handle them well.
but not wow.
excellent idea…horrible implementation…boring +++!
Okay so while I like a lot them I have some objective critiques.
Companion leveling feels bad post level 15. - Brann only gaining XP through Bountiful delves sucks. I’d rather he level a little slower and he can level anywhere.
Bountiful Delves suck period. - I’d rather not have an additional chest but I would rather every delve have a set loot table and a new bountiful Delve system that allows your chests to give additional loot instead. The keys are horrible and feel bad. Like your RNG sucked and you didn’t get any keys oh well.
The chests at the end need to feel more meaningful - I’m not saying 100% need a piece of loot but random Airship schematics, (or hey pieces of them (collect 3 to get 1) just something to make you not feel like you wasted your time. Crafting reagents feels like a massive waste of time.
I don’t mind the difficulty at all heck that’s why I find them fun! I have to LoS pull more, and use CC and CDs, and bosses have some fun mechanics though I wish we had more bosses.
But that’s what I would change.
