If there is a major cutback on portals making me have to take the long route it will get beyond boring since that is all i will be doing in the game. Most players only have a given window of time that they play and want to do the most they can during it. Blizzard’s excitement over this reminds me of how they felt about garrisons, and look how that turned out. They gave you no reason to go out in the world, now we’re having the means to do so removed.
On the christmas holiday I always have an addon that invites anyone who whispers “inv” and i set up portals to dalaran crater, and then to ironforge. My little Kittystrasza level 120 mage
I appreciate the time you took to make this list and I understand you’re just trying to help, but I think it may be rubbing some folks the wrong way because this list could be seen as fodder that Blizzard can use to further justify the removal of portals. As someone else mentioned above, it’s too close for comfort to the argument we hear about why we shouldn’t need flying; after all, we have flight master whistles and gliders and horseshoes and bardings, etc.
The point is that it’s good to have options. Some folks like carrying around teleport items. Frankly, I don’t have most of those and would rather navigate the world the way that I’m used to and save my bag space for other things. Having choices is good but Blizzard seems determined to remove any and all personal decision making in the game so that we’re all forced to play the same way. Feels bad, man.
I like it as a resource. Like a page on Wowhead with all the things.
Yeah I understand their point of views and I do hate that they are removing the portals. I am a fan of portals and a fan of flying. But this is what we are getting and I’m pretty sure blizzard doesn’t care about what the fans want. This is why we have Diablo Immortal, HoTS is failing, they cancelled all esports for HoTS. Activision is adding games to the Blizzard app, etc. It;s sad to see Blizzard take this route. I wish they wouldn’t. I hope some of these items can help other players though, I also don’t think Blizzard is going to nerf these items just because I put them in a convienent list. They know about these items already. Some of them have been changed just in the last couple of years… even when we had all these portals.
Gotta get them MAUs up. Few minutes spread out over a few annoyances here, a little more grind over there. Can’t do a ton at once or face massive backlash so you have to trickle it in. People might grumble but will likely keep playing and forget about it. Add it all up over hundreds of thousands of players and those MAUs start to look just a little better.
This is what they are banking on. I know I will keep playing because I have friends that play this game and we have fun together. However, I also know that I will not be purchasing game time anymore. I’ll take the farming gold route because if blizzard does not care about their customers, they do not deserve my actual cash.
One thing you can do by the way, if you don’t care about questing on your alts is you can just keep quests in your quest log on them and the portals will always be there.
Technically they make more money that way lol.
That is true.
Nickle and dime you to death. As the old saying goes.
But not from me they don’t.
The thing is, they’re more than happy for you to spend gold for your game time. Because they’re making MORE money off you. Even if you aren’t spending your own cash, they’re making MORE off you than a guy who simply pays $15 a month. Since a token costs $20 to buy, that means they’re making $20 a month off you vs $15 a month off you.
And you still spend tiem in game getting enough gold for the tokens.
They are making the $20 off of someone else, not me. My money is still in my pocket waiting to be spent on something else.
They still make money off you in other ways even if you don’t buy a subscription. Blizzcon tickets, collectors editions, shop mounts, etc. You try your hardest not to buy it but then you love the game so much you can’t help it and then Actiblizzard gets more money. They make bad changes but the players keep on playing cause its nostalgic or something. It’s sad but true. I dislike the game in its current state but I continue to give them money because deep down I want the game to be good but it just is gonna get worse. Its a love / hate.
and I’m pretty sure blizzard doesn’t care about what the fans want.
This, sadly , is more true than you realise.
That wouldn’t make sense…
Are they actually removing the class hall portals? Some, like the mages hall, have no way in or out without it. I’m not sure that Shaman or Warriors have physical access, either.
Just curious here, because I’ve not seen any reference to the class hall portals themselves being removed. They’re two-way portals, to and from a relevant class hall. It wouldn’t make sense to remove them when there are entire questlines that involve coming and going from your class hall.
That’s in reference to the underground portals in Dalaran. The ones to Dalaran Crater, Wyrmrest Temple, etc. The ones that require you to do the artifact quest lines, specifically. That’s what he was referring to in that thread, not the portals that go to the class halls themselves.
Mages have a teleport to the class hall and the warriors can get pulled up by a valkyr I think . Not sure about shaman .
Warriors have specific spots they can get pulled up, functionally a portal, though. Shaman have a portal on Krasus landing. Priests and Paladins have portals near the Battlemasters (for alliance anyway).
My point was that a number of classes can’t physically access their class hall without a “portal door”. I don’t believe those doors are part of the removal of portals.
It just wouldn’t make sense to remove the portals to the class halls themselves given how necessary they are for at least a few classes. From my experience, for ones that can’t be physically walked to without interacting with a portal or object:
- Warlock - Portal Only (Under Violet Citadel)
- Warrior - Val’kyr “Portal” (Krasus Landing)
- Shaman - Portal Only (Krasus Landing)
- Priests - Portal Only (Near Battlemasters)
- Demon Hunter - Portal Only (Island off of Krasus Landing)
Roughly half of the class halls are not accessible without either a portal (above), or a teleport (mage, monk).
Only Hunters, Druids, Death Knights, Paladins, and Rogues have class halls that exist physically in the world in a way that can be reached without a class ability or portal.
Paladins are a special case, as well, because their class hall has no access from anywhere in the Broken Isles without the portal. Rogues, Death Knights, Hunters, and Druids, are all present in the Broken Isles and can be manually traveled to.
