DF was the worst expansion
I mean, if you really want to argue the semantics of it, then sure. Let’s do so. However, a “major” patch would be X.0, X.1, X.2, X.3, etc.
Or are we not considering an X.0 patch that literally kicks off an expansion a major patch? I mean, it adds the pre-expansion event and makes all the big changes just prior to release, at which point it gets followed by a more minor X.X.2 patch to essentially “flip the switch” so to speak on allowing us to level again and move on to the new areas.
Granted, in the context of my post, 6.2 should actually be the THIRD major patch of WoD, but realistically speaking, that nonsense they put out for 6.1 would at best be considered a X.X.5 patch nowadays with their modern numbering system for patches.
So, equal parts slip of the tongue on my end, not properly counting 6.1, and being tired as hell after a long day. I should have actually said THIRD major patch if I wanted to be grammatically correct, but at the same time no one reasonable considers the damn selfie patch a major patch.
If we’re counting 6.0 and exclude the crap, I’m not wrong. 6.0 started the expansion and added all the starting areas/instances/raids for it, ergo it is a major patch. That came first. 6.2 may have came third overall, but as it added a zone and a raid, it’s a major patch. That came second as far as the major changes go.
To paraphrase Futurama: I’m technically correct. That’s the best kind of correct!
I didn’t care for SL and it’s definitely one of the worst for me. If not the worst. Because to be honest, I’ve enjoyed pretty much every expansion, Shadowlands being the only one I was really ready to move on from. But to each their own.
Yes this is the main problem with WoD, the content that existed was pretty good, but there wasnt nearly enough of it. I think its fair for people to say that they liked the content that was available but there wasnt enough. SL had heaps of terrible content though.
The reason why Shadowlands was so hated was because of the anima grind and timegating. The final couple patches of the expac had bad lore, but that was really just the cherry on top. Playing through it again with the grind and timegating removed, I love that expac. It had all the right vibes.
DF is the worst expac. The main story was us having to play house, listen to NPCs discuss their feelings ad nauseum and grow plants. If it didn’t introduce QOL features, it would be hated more.
I enjoyed Shadowlands. Imo, WoD and Cata were the worst. Neither felt like a complete expansion to me and Cata’s reuse/reworking of old zones felt, almost, disrespectful at the time.
I don’t see Shadowlands as one of the best or worst, probably in the middle, but it is certainly better than BfA for me.
S Tier: Classic/Legion
A Tier: WotLK (for its time it was great, not as fun today)
B Tier: MoP/BFA/TBC/Cataclysm (All were just OK, not amazing not terrible)
C Tier: Shadowlands (nice zones, really bad story. Jailers nipples still give me nightmares)
F Tier: WoD (full turd sandwich)
Tbh I had more fun in Shadowlands than Dragonflight. The content may have been repetitive but I felt like I had something to do every day. I also had a guild in Shadowlands, but they sadly disbanded at the end of it before Dragonflight came out. I just felt board in Dragonflight more than anything.
9-9.1maybe the worst ever.
9.1.5 and after was pretty good though.
Story wise idk man. Still have no idea what the jailer was trying to do. Just bad.
WoD still king of the turds.
I played from vanilla to mid mop and quit. Came back s2 of DF. Since I’ve come back, I have quested through every single expansion for loremaster. I’ve also ran through all raids and dungeons for mounts/mogs. So some of my opinions aren’t all current content experience. With that said going worst to best…
Vanilla (hot take)
Cata
WoD
BFA
MoP
SL
TBC
Legion
WOTLK
DF
Judging from 24 hours of TWW, I’m probably going to rank this between BFA and MoP.
it will never not be BFA. Later half of shadowlands was good
Nope, Mists of Pandera is still the worst by far, Shadowlands tried very hard though.
dragonflight just sucked, first time in awhile i put WoW on the backburner
Shadowlands was Blizzards’ last and best opportunity for the Necromancer Class to be added into the Game: a Class whose abilities revolve around controlling the Undead and using it as a weapon against your enemies, and would have paired nicely as a supplementary role for the Death Knights.
To differentiate it from the Warlock, The Necromancer wouldn’t be a Summoner-Type of Class where they need only to call upon Demonic powers to gain a minion, the Necromancer would be similar to that of a Hunter: where they could go out into the overworld to “tame” Undead creatures like Zombies, Ghosts, Geists, Ghouls, and Skeletons at first. But as they gain in power and Level up, the Necromancer would soon be able to use their powers to spec into Graverobber, Spiritualist, or Flesh Shaper.
Graverobber Necromancers utilize stealth capabilities to blend in behind enemy lines in order to steal prospective ingredients for their rituals, they steal from Graveyards and Crypts and scour battlefields to gathher ingredients needed to create their own minions like Bone Golems, Gargoyles, Crypt Fiends, and are a Ranged DPS Spec.
Spiritualist Necromancers look to the soul for power, using their command over the dead to affect the material world by transforming Ghosts into Banshees and using them to enslave the Living such as Humanoids to become unwilling slaves to fight and die for them, or to turn their powers inward to transcend their own flesh and create a Phlactery to store their soul and resurrect upon death, and are a Healer Spec.
Flesh Shaper Necromancers are depraved evolutionists that seek to perfect their craft by performing unholy experiments on the living to transform them into complete monstrosities and are able to combine the flesh and organs of creatures to create Wights, Abominations, Plague-Dogs, and the highest tiers being aable to create Flesh Giants, they rely upon the strength and durability of their creations to overwhelm their enemies and are a DPS Spec.
The ideal weapons and armor of a Necromancers’ trade are Cloth, with the Flesh Shaper Spec being able to wear Leather armor instead. And can carry One-Handed Swords and Axes, Daggers, Polearms, and Staves.
The Races that could become Necromancers include Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Draenei, Lightforged, Orcs, Mag’har, Trolls, Forsaken, and Zandalari
And on top of this, Shadowlands would have also included to new Playable Races that have a strong connection with Nexromancy along with the ability to transcend Life and Death as part of their culture: the Arakkoa and the Vrykul.
The Arakkoa who have crossed over into our Azeroth from the desolated alternate version of Draenor would have taken up residence with the Alliance due to old hatreds and distrust in the Horde because of members of the Iron Horde like the Bleeding Hollow and Shattered Hand Clans having joined with the Mag’har along with the Arakkoa wanting to keep a close eye upon theLightforged in order to keep them in check and not turn into the Lightbound that had ravaged their timeline. Their Necromantic practices lean more towards spirituality and transcendance theough the teachings of both Talon King Terokk and the Raven Wild God Anzu.
The Vrykul who value strength and valor would side with the Horde due to the resonance of their shared cultures and their common enemy in Sylvanas Windrunner. Their Necromantic practices stem from the courageousness of the Valarjar led by Prime Designate Odyn, who after sacrificing his eye to Mueh’zala the Farraki Loa of Death gained the ability yo peer into the Shadowlands and pluck the souls of fallen Vrykul and turn them into his Valarjar and his Val’kyr.
Actually dying in WoW is like getting a job, forever. Bastion is a job. Ardenweald is a job with some fun and still a job. Revendreth is literally a punishment. And maldraxxus is the one zone where everyone you kill can come back to life to be put to work again. Why rush to the shadowlands, you’re already potentially going to be working there forever. There is no heaven in WoW
Actually, revendreth is a punishment where you get punished enough to unlock the right to get a job
Bastion is the one that really gets me.
Hello, we will now brainwash you to forget everything you know so you can work forever doing tasks for us.
I always felt we were on the wrong side of the war in that zone.
I like ardenweild only cause an afterlife with my pets and other animals is cool.
Yup. SL makes the point that not only is there nothing good in the afterlife, but no real point to existence at all. It is incredibly depressing and nihilistic.
We absolutely were on the wrong side in Bastion, they wanted mind wiped slaves. Thats why Uther was fighting them.
Shadowlands was set to fail from the get go considering the issues faced. And no, I’m not speaking of the lock downs. They also were set in their ways instead of really listening to the criticisms. Dragonflight was the first expansion they ‘‘tried’’ to push out of that rut or that’s what I gathered from interviews.
Worst expansion? I’m sure there is an argument made for and against it but it definitely for me wasn’t that good. Missed opportunity after missed opportunity, mixed in with horrible choices made for an unpleasant experience.
