It makes sense to me that raid and mythic would be up if people stopped trying to que arenas ect. I know personally a lot of my friends list is doing mythics and raids lately when normally they are all in arenas.

think you’re just misplacing the cause to this effect.

i’ll try to be very clear.

in the current system there is no reason to play arenas more than to cap your vault

Im on the bus i cant share it but its on the worldofpvp subreddit under deep analysis breakdown i remember the numbers from reading it last night. Maybe im wrong and they are talking about something else.

Maybe retail pvp is pumping i havent played this season since the 2nd week maybe im totally wrong and arena is doing amazing rn compared to launch

interesting. are you worried about the heat death of the planet every time the sun sets?

Inflation/ Deflation work the opposite in M+, start of season when individual dungeon time boards are “fresh” is best time to hit number achievements. Later on in the season when those boards are filled it becomes harder to get high score.

Arena is opposite, which is idiotic. It should be as fun and rewarding to q week one as it is last week of season. The other thing is there is no rating or score deflation in mythic plus. So that may be one area to look at if the devs wanted to nudge participation.

This isn’t really a thing in m+ tho

No one really cares about the rating, the rating only exists because of raider.io for KSM Andy’s

If you’re pushing for seasonal titles you’re just doing the hardest keys you can in time which naturally increases the rating

It absolutely is, first two weeks you can KSM 2 cheating nothing but 8s. End of season that’s 16+.

I know because I’ve done it.

when you aren’t(or don’t consider yourself) capable of doing better than 15s, it becomes technically true that the lfg dregs you find contenting themselves with 15s late in the season are harder to finish a run with than the people doing 15s early season. this is a problem most people fix by letting late season 15s be the domain of alts, but alas

Okay I’m admittedly going off of what I remember from doing 20 keys a week back in SL but I haven’t done real M+ this expansion so explain to me how you can get KSM with 8s

Because while I understand some changes happened to gear and what not in M+, back in SL the amount of rating you got per dungeon was relatively fixed so you knew that you needed somewhere between 14-17 completed or scuffed in both tyrannical and fortified

Because when you say inflation/deflation I’m thinking about the rating and while what you’re saying makes sense given your 8s to KSM example, I’ve never actually seen/experienced that

the same thing i’m talking about happens in arena; when you fixate on a point as the inflation train takes everybody away from it, the players that occupy that rating get worse and worse because inflation has moved the good ones higher. keys just force this to happen much more sharply because there’s a ton of raiders that stop bothering to do keys once prog is over, and the noncompetitive shape of keys means (i think, anyway) that the kind of people you find doing 15s late in a season are there because they’re really, really bad at keys compared to the only kinda bad pvpers you find at 1800 late in a season

Gotcha that makes way more sense now

I assume it’s a bit more of an issue this expansion compared to SL given the gear change and 20s being the more optimal key level while KSM still only requires 15-16 on average

So the players doing for the gear shoot past KSM relatively quickly leaving the people whose entire goal is KSM in the dust

M+ participation is up because pvp sucks lol. What else are we supposed to do? Sit in 1 hour queues all day?

That’s not quite right, at the start of the M+ season there are no rankings. If you 2-3 chest keys in the 8-10 range at the start of the season when there are far fewer rankings you get far more points for those rankings. As the season progresses and people naturally run higher keys those rankings ‘de value’ because there are far more of them.

It’s also easy to KSM/KSH in the last few weeks of a season because there are a ton of people who just run M+, I think it’s probably the most popular game mode atm. You just have to run higher keys to get the same rank as someone would get running lower keys on a far less populated board at the start of the season. I usually KSM my DK in the last few weeks of the season (main rogue for pve now) like this. What I’ve noticed is that I had an avg of 8-12 when I ksm my rogue vs 16’s on my dk for the same relative amount of points.

The other thing that happened was the team adding Keystone Hero, which is 2500. KSM was always easy this seems to have gone that way too.

Dude I’m ngl following reading this thread I got 2 shuffle games in and both were 15m qs and I’m 2350 I don’t think PvP is dead by any means or even that it sucks. I think it’s not the time to spam games and push it’s time to fill your vault and you can’t see that cuz you’re addicted

(Not advocating for segmented seasons where Mmr is throttled)

You’re really lucky then. My 14min queue was short-lived. All games since have been 40+ mins.

Surely it’s not because you’re playing one of, if not the most, popular dps spec in the game

No reason to practice either because the meta will most likely be very different at the end of the season due to tuning/reworks (S1 rets, S2 augs)

Played dk S1 and it became unplayable overnight with the ret pally patch, so all the practice I did during the season was pretty much useless.

Retail PvP is basically:

  1. unsub till last month of the season
  2. Roll whatever spec is omega FOTM after all the tunings
  3. ???
  4. Profit
