So... bots?

Cool!

You miss out. I don’t lose anything. Win/win

I wouldn’t rush to judgement on that

Then don’t.

No one in the history of games/the internet has solved the botting problem. There is just too much money involved. You might get some of the amateurs, but these developers are working directly with the farming companies. As soon as Blizz breaks something, they’re working on ways to fix it. There’s just no way Blizz can ever stay ahead of that cat and mouse game, the mice are just too well-funded

Not to beat a dead horse but how bad is the botting problem in FFXIV?

Bad and getting worse. Their AH bots in particular are notoriously bad

Go on reddit. Its full of posts like this

# FFXIV is a bot haven, and only Square Enix is to blame.

As we all know, the use of third party programs is a major problem in FFXIV. While many programs are ultimately harmless or used for simple QoL features, there are far more others that disrupt the games’ balance and result in a poorer experience for everyone else. The worst of the worst, the actual bot programs that automate play, typically charge a subscription fee to use- Indeed, cheaters are sending their IRL money to the authors of these bots and creating a pay to win experience that cheapens the effort that legitimate players put into the game.

Almost everything in FFXIV can and has been automated now: MSQ, gathering, crafting, marketboards, dungeons, FATES, treasure maps, PVP, housing (both camping AND relocating a house to a larger sized plot).... Everything. There’s nothing left for legitimate users anymore.

You might ask yourself, “But surely SE bans these people...?” The blatant RMT bots? Yeah. Sometimes. Rarely. The spambots get nuked, the ones that actually generate all that gil they’re selling, not so much. Square Enix does share weekly ban reports, but the actual RMT bots get lumped in with the throwaway spambots so we don’t actually know how much is being done.

Which is naive too. There is just too much money in botting. There’s almost no way a company is going to be able to fight it from the supply side

Nah i have no idea i believe you. Was just asking.

Its better now, but when gold was at its peak a couple months ago doing the quick napkin math on what they were pulling conservatively… its just insanely lucrative, particularly for the low amounts of processing powr it requires. Puts bitcoin mining completely to shame, even when it was at its peak. And again, the big time RMT traders aren’t using the bots people are selling access to in message boards (which will almost surely get you flagged/banned.) They’re literally paying developers directly to design their bots, and keep them updatedm because theres that much money in it. Untill/unless blizzard figures out how to keep people from buying gold, you’re going to continue to have bots.
