I’m glad they allow this, makes the new Blood Knight look even better IMO when you can have red eyes and black hair to match the red and black coloring.
Yep. One of them still has bond to the light. Its just not used how most paladins would normally use it.
IF void elfs get everything then wheres our velf paladins then huh ?
velf pallies next
Where did I put my newspaper…
Undead druids are a thing too. Ftw!
Anything that can be a priest should also be able to be a paladin.
Anything that can be both Priest and Warrior should get Paladin
If they have any link to Calia at all, I refuse to play them.
You mean like the kultirans? And the worgen?
Vampire paladin… They have really trashed w/e little was left of their lore lol, wouldn’t be surprised if they come up with something like lightforged draenei warlock.
Aside from certain reaching interpretations of what the pain was that Sir Zeliek felt? No, so far there’s little to nothing that would constitute more proof than this “throwaway quote” by Chris Metzen.
I’d even say that the quote itself was more of an attempt to appease players (on both ends of the spectrum) without actually having to make a definite statement in terms of Warcraft meta-physics.
Just some food for thought:
- Chris Metzen was and still is (see his current job) heavily influenced by the tropes established by original D&D, AD&D and anything of “new” D&D til D&D 3.5.
- Most players are influenced in the exact same manner … regardless of whether they directly experienced anything D&D related or were just exposed to the associated tropes.
- Regardless of said influence on the creator’s end the original Lore of both the Warcraft RTS games and World of Warcraft never made explicit statements with regards to how Light as a magic form affects “Undead” when these try to use said magic form themselves. The only truly “certain” things were that some wielders of Light magic could use it to heal (RTS and WoW) and damage (WoW) living beings while also being able to harm undead beings (RTS and WoW) and that sometimes with greater effect (WoW) when compared against the harmful effects against the living.
- Sir Zeliek actually isn’t the sole example of an “Undead” using Light based magic: The “Cursed Paladin” NSCs from Vanilla / Classic in Hillsbrad “happily” cast the holy / light based Paladin spell “Hammer of Justice” despite being a form of “Undead”. No signs of pain or even discomfort for them.
- Some of the “Light magic damages Undead” proponents will eagerly try to cite the non-canon and licensed P&P RPG product created by White Wolf that - surprise, surprise - was based on the then freely usable D&D D20 system and as such brought those D&D tropes and meta-physics “full circle”. What these proponents however usually fail to mention is the Undead prestige class for “Hunters” that is known as “Dark Rangers”: Against the default assumptions of D&D at that time - where Undead simply weren’t allowed to learn ‘divine magics’ (under which the Light fell within the game) - those “Dark Rangers” had the devine spell of the “Cure Wounds” variety on their allowed spell list.
- I find it interesting that a larger group within the playerbase has zero problems with WoW utilizing the “our Orcs are different” trope - thereby going against the common fantasy tropes (including those of D&D) - but then somehow try to draw the line with the portrayal of Undead in general and Forsaken in particular when it comes to magic usage … and all that despite the fact that the very existance of free-willed undead already goes against the typical fantasy / D&D tropes concerning Undead.
TL;DR: Yeah, the official “Light magic usage causes pain” statement is more of a throwaway comment that tries to create an appeasing compromise for players on either end of the spectrum of expectations and opinions concerning the Undead in the Warcraft universe … and it specifically aims not to create hard meta-physical “facts” that might require retcons like a certain other WoW book series.
That’s pretty much how I see things too.
Completely dubious that light hurts Forsaken when they wield it.
I remember Metzen claiming that the snake in Zul’drak was going to amount to something significant in one of his snarky throwaway comments.
Is it that crazy to assume that 1 undead out of thousands would know Druidism.
I hope leak is true and we get undead paladins and Druids
You realize this is just makeup, right? Much like pink velves, it’s cosplay.
Which is every race now!
If you can be a priest and a warrior there is no reason you can’t be a paladin.
This is likely inevitable. Like Thanos breaking the laws of physics by snapping with a metal glove.
Please do not forget undead Tauren. I want this badly.
If a gnome can be a warrior we should have all classes all races. It’s time. Enough years have gone by in the lore to have class masters teaching all races anything.
Glowing red eye makeup? o.o
Undead paladin and yet no pandaren paladins?
