Druids generate more threat (druids that farm MCP even more so), warriors have better mitigation and more defensive cool downs. Bosses that have fears or more spike damage should be tanked by warriors and anything else could be tanked by Druids.
They tanked bosses that were on farm status, not in progression except for 2 bosses with specific mechanics. Link a video of a bear tanking a progression boss that isnt patchwerk
“Optimal” would be a better adjective for progression raiding.
Nevertheless, the first guild I was in (I was a new 60) wiped twice on Ragnaros with their warrior tank so they asked a friend bear druid to come and tank it and we downed him.
Ragnaros was clearly not on farm status for this guild.
You said there were plenty of videos of bears tanking in vanilla. I replied that they were all bears tanking content that was on farm status. I dont see any of these videos of bears tanking in vanilla that you are talking about. I see private server bears tanking farm status bosses where the fights last 70s and multiple people have thunderfury equipped.
Druids also have much higher health in full FR sets than Warrs and while Warrs in late game (Naxx) end up wearing threat sets when tanking rather than full tanking sets. A druid doesn’t require such things, they can also out-threat a Warrior in their threat set.
It seems you have a convenient definition of farm status. First it’s PS guilds with TF killing him in 70s.
When I provide an actual, real-life anecdote of a guild who wiped twice with their warrior tank recruiting a non-guild bear to tank Ragnaros, you want a video instead.
When I show a 6-minute kill, it’s still on farm status.
I don’t think you know what farm status means, but I can assure you it doesn’t involve wipes.
Most of these cookie cutters will tell you a pally can’t tank and never did. I mean look at them pretending to know it all… I find it very entertaining
You said there were all of these videos showing bears tanking in vanilla. There are not. I played in vanilla…bears did not tank progression content.
You link a video of Molten Core 8 years after it was current, with Dire maul, and multiple other raids having been released with gear far better than most everything available in Molten Core. What is that supposed to show? that a Bear tank over-geared for a fight can tank it. Thats what it shows.
I find it funny also when that TF is what allows paladins to catch up to warriors in threat, well as long as they aren’t DW tanking. Actually off tank warriors on the fights where you can’t taunt (most of them) you will be rage starved and will do less threat than a paladin.
Do you think many established MT’s that were warriors, often times Guild leaders let another questionable meta replace them? Classic will be different compared to then, I’ll follow a Bear GL into the fray.
