my 2 cents is this: this game holds just about every type of drama there could be in a world, its what drives the conflicts and gives truth to the games name “World of Warcraft”. So when the company starts censoring stuff it feels might offend someone you cant help but be concerned what else is on the chopping block. I think what the OP means to address is that once you start feeding this new trend…it doesnt stop most the time, you remove things then people are just going to find more stuff to attack. WoW is a game from a bygone era, its old so its going to have stuff in it that may not fit the current frame of mind society has placed on itself.
I can use the Vietnam War to prove government psy-ops and conspiracies too. Does that legitimize every person throwing out whacko ideas the same way you’re using it to delegitimize this argument of slippery slopes?
That isn’t really an argument against what I said though is it?
What I said is true. A real example of a slippery slope fallacy that actually dictated a lot of the Wests foreign and domestic policies. What makes it a fallacy is that the steps and the final result are stupid and insanely crazy that no reasonable person would believe them. Like claiming that it would be the end of the world because A will cause B which will cause C etc etc until Z would cause the end of the world.
Hell, I even gave a different example of one. People like Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones tend to use a lot of slippery slope fallacies. I’m still waiting for every corner coffee shop to be replaced by a Starbucks since Biden won the 2020 election.
I’m not claiming that every A > B > C > … is a slippery slope. Just saying that it is very easy to see which ones are. Which tends to be most of them. Key word right there. Most. Not all.
Can’t believe I had to repeat myself because you couldn’t be bothered actually reading a post in full and instead just knee-jerk reacting to it.
Not a fallacy if it proves to occur, Like it has ever since the removal of /spit. How you didn’t see the bolder picking up speed down the slope is a little bewildering. It’s weird how people who think they are smart and up being pretenders and have no way of using it in real life situations.
Agreed. We are 3/4s of the way to the bottom at this point.
Note, mathematical numbers completely fabricated. No mathematicians were harmed in the process.
Yeah, it does get a little weird when you can … represent strife and killing in various ways… but language used to describe feelings of hatred must go. Hard to know where they will draw the line honestly… though I imagine most of the changes will be on the periphery. I confess, none of these changes actually makes me feel any better about the game… I don’t look at the growing list of changes and think “ah, so much better now… what a relief. This is 2021 for god’s sake!”
Why would you think I’d go back and read 2 edits after the initial reply then lol
It’s called PC blight. SJWs comb the interwebs looking for anything remotely funny and smother it before it reaches too many unsuspecting and fragile victims. It’s contagious, you know.
I still love the irony of people like you calling others fragile when you and people like you are the ones foaming at the mouth after a few minor changes.
It’s perfect.
But most of the stuff being removed was that level of humor.
“I got what you need.” zipper sound
Yes, the pinnacle of comedy right there.
VIOLENCE GOOOD. VERY GOOD
EVERYTHING ELSE BAAAAAD. VERY BAD
(and yes this is a complete sentence)
I don’t personally consider a /fart emote and flirt lines content.
If they were taking out a dungeon or something then I would agree
I almost got caught by a slippery slope today…
Luckily I spotted the banana peel and avoided a disaster.
The story already is a confusing, stupid and bland mess. They f’d the story and lore of WoW completely over and I’m not surprised that they continuously lay their hands on old stuff.
But it’s nice to see where the priorities are. Players are desperately waiting for new content and turning to other games, while Blizzard spend their time purging the games from things most of us don’t even wanna see removed.
idk I enjoyed slides and sledding down slippery slopes as a child, so maybe an adult slide would tickle my fancy. We’ll all go down together
I sincerely hope that everyone who has a serious problem with the “censorship” changes so far moves on to other games or other uses of their time in general. The game developers have decided to bring old content up to the current times, and that their game wouldn’t be a safe space for people who are uncomfortable with society progressing and want to hold on to ideals from decades ago like grim death. I didn’t ask them to change anything on my behalf, but I’m glad that they are, and I’m glad to see the people who would be outraged at the changes go.
Clearly, Blizzard isn’t worried about them going either.
But the slippery slope fallacy is a fallacy for a reason. To paraphrase John Oliver, when the question is “where will it stop?” the answer is always, “freaking somewhere”. You don’t go, well, I let my kid have a Twizzler earlier, I guess hard drugs are okay too.
If Blizzard does get to a point where they remove or change something that matters to me even a tiny bit, then I’ll need to evaluate if it’s worth it to stay too. But just because changes are being made doesn’t make it likely that that’ll happen, because slopes always stop somewhere.
This is what happens when people can no longer decipher between fiction and reality.
Right here is another one hired just to shill, obviously.
They’re really spending a lot of money on damage control. I guess it’s cheaper than actually fixing the mess in their offices, or… gasp making the game better for the ones that pay their salaries.
Hey that was quick. Creators should have agency in the games they create. Period. The customer is not always right.
I’ll reiterate. Take a deep breath, go outside, it’s going to be okay.
I really love when they resort to personal attacks.
