Slimecat, it's what's for dinar

If it’s a limited time reward, then it’s FOMO. That’s all there is to it.

Studies suggest that FOMO is a negative emotional state resulting from unmet social relatedness needs

Cdog is both right and wrong, as insufferable as they are. Limited time events and rewards aren’t technically FOMO, but they trigger that mentality in players’ heads. And it exists in all of us. If anyone claims to have never been a “victim” of FOMO then they are lying. It could be something as simple as a limited time food or drink.

I dont think anyone actually knows how to get the currency yet.

Call it the definition of FOMO or not, at the end of the day limited time events are a very common business practice that preys upon people’s desire to not miss out on a special deal or reward or whatever, drawing in more people to spend time / money on them and consume the product. Video games do this more than any other business, and Blizzard more so than most. Heck, even battlepasses that expire and go aaay fits this criteria. Even the trading post fits this.

There is absolutely no denying that limited time events and things like AotC and what the Slimecat did is using this tactic to draw in people that wouldn’t have been playing at the time for any one reason or another, purely because they don’t want to miss out on the goodies.

It should be stressed that events like these are good for MMOs… but there probably shouldn’t be so many of them so often with no promise of them ever coming back, because as we’ve been seeing, it’s causing a great deal of frustration and burnout. WoW has had limited time events since vanilla, and only now is causing problems with people. Yeah, people are becoming more entitled these days, that’s an unavoidable truth, but so too is the fact thar limited time events are far more prevalent these days, and not just in WoW.

Everyone is doing it. Special events, limited time battlepasses, even twitch drops, etc, its all over the gaming industry. Live service games especially. They are all vying for the consumers precious little time and money. It’s not sustainable and it’s reaching a boiling point.

With all that in mind… is it really so hard to believe that people are tired of Blizzard dangling yet another carrot in front of their eyes, threatening to take it away and never bring it back if you don’t give in and do what they tell you to do?

SO i feel like we are agreeing here Minus the use of FOMO and everyone crying wolf about it in every aspect of the game.

But they don’t threaten to not bring it back if you don’t give in and do what they tell you to do, these are just peoples feelings on the whole thing.

In general, if something is a limited time event like plunder or something else like the hearthstone event, i don’t believe you should be able to get those items again. People can dislike that, but you shouldn’t have a chance to get something if it’s not a reassuring event like holiday events. This is a convo for a different thread though.

It’s a lazy reward :woman_shrugging:

I have to wonder if you understand that the fact you are saying you subbed in order to get the cat is proof the FOMO worked on you.

That is what us anti-fomo people want to stop. you should sub because you enjoy playing the game not because if you don’t sub and play right now you will feel regret for missing out on that limited (only to instill fomo) thing.

At this point don’t expect any limited time thing to be permanently gone when the event ends. They have been trampling over all of the FOMO items they have created over the years, so it’s fruitless at this point to get in bunches over it.

To be fair, the events themselves aren’t FOMO. However, they trigger that mentality, so they kind of are in a sense.

Blizzard does FOMO, limited time events for a reason. They are exploiting basic human psychology for profit

Oh, I agree with you 100%.

well i would like to jump in on this. 1st i have the mount. 2nd i would love to see others get it. 3rd i dont think it should be available for 3 tokens. it should be available for all 3 dragonflight raid clears on normal or higher, just like it was attained in sl for clearing all 3 sl raids on normal or higher. 4th i want a mount as well. i was looking forward to seeing what the new mount would be for clearing the fated dragonflight raids. low and beyond a slap in the face nothing.

the bright side i can cancel my 6 subs until tww. to bad for blizz.

Tbh this is my biggest complaint, if any.
They rehash old mounts for people to obtain, cool.
But what about those of us that got it current? No recolor or anything?

im only gonna get the neltharions sword

If we only get one currency per raid, then it is the same. We need to wait and see how the currency is earned.

Eh? You do get a mount. A dragonriding foxnoodle like the Ardenweald ones.
