Oh man, I didn’t know that. That makes Luner Eclipse even worse. I really hate this eclipse design. What’s the point of having two eclipses if Solar is the optimal choice in every scenario lol?
Lunar boost 100% dmg on aoe…
the whole eclipse is a mess period.
its rigid and not fun , u are forced to cast X twice then …Y until eclipse changes …
The question is WHY? , why balance has to deal with this lame excuse of “mechanic” called eclipse ,if only the eclipse were fun but isnt …is just forcing the player to cast X or Y …
blizz needs to stop and take a look to the whole picture , Shadowlands is going to last at least 2 years …
2 years of this? ugh…i can see myself falling sleep in raid
Boomkin has a good theme moon/sun/nature…its like mage arcane they can do almost anything with it…yet here we are.
Right, so my Moonkin right now has 26% Mastery which means I get a 26% buff to Nature damage during Solar Eclipse and a 26% buff to Arcane damage during Lunar Eclipse.
Moonfire Dot tick avg in No Eclipse - 160
Moonfire Dot tick avg in Solar Eclipse - 160
Moonfire Dot tick avg in Lunar Eclipse - 201
Sunfire Dot tick avg in No Eclipse - 171
Sunfire Dot tick avg in Lunar Eclipse - 171
Sunfire Dot tick avg in Solar Eclipse - 216
Stellar Flare tick avg in No Eclipse - 100
Stellar Flare tick avg in Solar Eclipse - 126
Stellar Flare tick avg in Lunar Eclipse - 126
Stellar Flare tick avg during Celestial Alignment - 160 (because it double-dips being astral damage)
Starfire - 835 single with a 269 splash
Lunar Starfire - 1053 single with a 678 splash
Wrath - 640 single
So Lunar + Starfire should be better for AoE, if you are able to get a few empowered Starfires off, at least 2 I think. This is why I thought the damage would be close. If things die too fast, then there was no point in trying to reach Lunar Eclipse and proccing Solar via Stafires was the better choice, but someone who is better at math can correct me there.
Also, please add Stellar Flare to Shooting Stars and do something with it x_x.
Thx for the numbers!
So lets say we’re talking 6 targets and we take the time to dot them up with both dots. So far that’s 4 GCD’s. And I think a negligible dps difference though it seems to slightly favor Solar.
Then we cast 2 starfires for (835 + 269×5) ×2 = 4630
Or 2 solar wraths for 640×2 = 1280
We have 3350 to make up for later if we go with Solar. Now to be fair, I believe they still have different cast times which will mess this up in terms of dps but I’m too lazy to figure that out.
So far that’s 6 button presses, then add another for Starfall. So 7. Are things even still alive at this point to get to press an eclipse buffed lunar. I dont know if they will be and if not you’ve lost dps going the lunar route.
Lets say yes so now we press Lunar 2 more times.
Regular: 4630 again
With Lunar: (1053 + 678×5)×2 = 8886
Thats a difference of 4256. Ok so with 2 more presses you’re right that we get to make up for that 3350 damage lost earlier. But only barely. And that’s IF they survive long enough for 2 more casts.
It’s not optimal in every scenario. In 5+ targets, Starfire can overpower Wrath while Solar Eclipse is active. Not exactly rare in M+.
Legendary effects really spice things up, though.
BOAT is fun because you can feel rewarded for proper setup.
OI needs some love, but ultimately adds some nice RNG.
Lycara with Primal Wrath can be massive damage on AOE.
Dreamcatcher is very fluid and changes how you play the spec in terms of maintenance buffs.
Pulsar timing can be extremely fun to figure out. Lining up Pulsar with your second Convoke or timing it with raid encounters is some high-level stuff.
It’s not complicated, but there’s a lot of micro involved. Experience gives you better gameplay options.
As long as you don’t lose the eclipse often then ya I guess
Well, you can assume 15sec, and its typically and 32sec full cycle. I just wish there was more parity on eclipse bonuses, like Starfire gaining Crit instead of bonus AOE.
This sounds horrible. We’d have to track every 45 seconds to be in melee range and shift into cat form
Question does Balance of All Things work on Astral spells? Or only Wrath and Starfire?
double dips on astral
Are you sure about this? Unless it’s a bug, the starsurge buff to eclipse isn’t applying to any astral damage spells nor moonfire or sunfire, and only seems to be working for wrath and and starfire. Hopefully this is a bug because it makes the change to starsurge very lackluster
The wording on it makes me think it doesn’t. It is one or the other so you don’t get double the crit bonus -
Increases your critical strike chance with Arcane or Nature spells by 105%, decreasing by 15% every sec.
Lycara - in my current gear, Rip was doing about 300 damage a tick, which is more than Sunfire and Moonfire but not by much. Doesn’t seem worth the legendary slot and extra effort to shift into cat, get in range, track the buff, etc. But this seems like a fun legendary to mess around with.
Dreamcatcher - found it kind of boring tbh lol
OI - very weak, proc chance is too low.
Primordial Pulsar - has weird interactions with the new Starsurge-Eclipse mechanic. If you buff your Lunar/Solar eclipse effects with Starsurge, then proc Primordial Pulsar, your stacked buffs reset to 0. Same thing happens during Celestial Alignment.
I’m certain it double-dips. You get 2 buffs, one for solar, and one for Lunar. If you’re in CA/INC, you have both buffs active meaning you benefit from both because Astral is two spell schools.
That’s why Convoke + BOAT is unbelievably OP.
Deos that mean our builders hit like wet noodles in order to compensate for that doubledipping op’dnes?
Nah, tuning hasn’t happened yet. Warlocks aren’t #1 atm, so until that happens, just be mindful of damage breakdowns.
I thought the double dipping was instead in reference to [Mastery: Total Eclipse] Solar Eclipse increases Nature damage by 11%, and Lunar Eclipse increases Arcane damage by 11%. Being in either Eclipse will increase Astral damage by 11%, but then being in CA/Incarn where both eclipses are, Astral damage is currently double dipping to be increased by 22%.
I have not seriously tested on the PTR though, so please feel free to say that I’m wrong about this.
All of it double-dips. ![]()
what do you think about starsurge only buffing the wrath and starfire portions of eclipse? seems like a nerf to what starsurge used to do and possibly even counter to the rotation.
Should be based on Astral Power spent. imo.
what i mean is when you cast a starsurge fo the buff it should buff the mastery portion of eclipse also. so if you cast 2 starsurge in a row that first one should buff the second one. the way it is now only the wrath bonus and starfire bonus portions of eclipse are buffed
