Haven’t played as a Warlock back in Vanilla but it was my class during the stress test. I also picked skinning.
Whenever my imp was the only damage dealer for a skinnable mob, I wasn’t able to skin in. Is this normal behavior?

I believe that is normal behavior. I do remember that for a long time, you couldn’t loot any mob that your pet or minion solely killed. You also didn’t get kill credit, if needed for a quest, nor reputation or experience either.
Yeah, you at least had to tap the mob to get credit for a kill.
Makes sense! Thanks, guys!
Normal for classic, they fixed this in Cata
Yup, P.S. don’t farm low dungeons and such with your pet out(or use passive instead) for this reason. No loot, no XP(if you’re running someone), etc.
Yes, that is normal behavior.
You only got loot and were able to skin mobs if you actually did some damage to the mob yourself. You were not able to loot or skin mobs if your minion was the only one that did damage.
Edit: I really should have read further down the thread lol. Everyone answered your question.
You imp needs to learn skinning. Also make sure he carries a skinning knife.
Should I buy another sub to login with it too?
Actually two subs are required. One for the imp and one for the skinning knife.
Lol sorry, that was lame. I’m in a silly mood tonight.
You mean three, a sub for the imp, a sub for you, and a sub for the mob.
No exp or loot from mobs killed by pets alone.
That’s right!
How could I forget about the sub for myself?
Maybe we need to figure out a way to train that imp to be a bit more independent.
Not in his contract.
/Sigh
I forgot about their contracts. I guess we will just have to stick with the three sub requirement then for our warlock’s if we want to skin anything.
There was actually a comic way, way back in the day, where a few hunters went AFK and their pets ended up coming back wearing green items like a wizard hat and staff.
So yeah, it applied to not only skins but loot as well.
Lol, that sounds pretty funny.
Yes, you actually need to damage everything.
pet’s don’t tag. neither does reflective damage. You need to use an active attack of some sort to tag. IIRC this was diliberate for a while as an anti-botting measure though modern wow dropped it somewhere around Cata or pandaria.
