Silverpine Dialogue Retconned - Change It Back

We’re returning to the culture of the 50s and 60s where media isn’t allowed to have a modicum of griminess. The only difference is that the opposite side of the political spectrum is pushing for the censorship this time.

I don’t think this counts as a retcon or, frankly, a big deal. Who cares what Garrosh did or didn’t call Sylvanas a decade ago?

I can’t even remember the last time I listened to the exchange instead of running around cleaning out my bags, picking up quests, or going to get a drink while the RP played out.

NGL the line was always cringe given in no instance does a woman insult a man using equivalently grave/degrading language in the game

If Sylvanas had actually said something about Little Garrosh at any point it would be tit for tat but as it stands eh

It was cringe when I was 15 and it’s cringe when I’m 25

I don’t know what about my post screams “American left wing” to you, but perhaps consider that not everything is about your weird country’s politics? Tia.

It’s not so much about the word itself, but the needless sanitizing and retconning. When it doesn’t serve to clarify, recodify, or recontextualize something in a meaningful way, it’s a needless rewriting of the canon that I dislike on principle.

It certainly added some shock value, and is fairly out of place as far as swearing in WoW is considered (which is what made it so memorable tbh).

However, that zone in particular has been Retconed to absolute hell and basically feels non-cannon at this point.

They’re basically changing the writing in the fanfiction version of a zone.

I don’t know what you mean by any of that.

The events and presentation of the story in this zone are still canon and haven’t been retroactively altered (until now). The story has progressed in the years since this questline was complete, but the zone itself is nearly 10 years old.

(complete Azeroth world overhaul when)

What happens in the years afterward don’t have an impact on that.

Here’s hoping they don’t remove Sylvanas calling Arthas a bastard.
Edit: Huh. That’s not censored?

I’ve seen some people say the word felt out of place.

Wouldn’t a world full of murder, war and genocide yet everyone talks to each other like it’s Sesame Street be out of place?

The entire portion with the Kirin Tor is considered non-cannon to my knowledge, as well as the “willingness” of most of the people raised by the Val’kyr to march off to War under the Forsaken banner is called into question regularly.

The whole zone is a weird blend of old Forsaken ideology and current Forsaken ideology, and not in the “two sides of the same coin” kinda way.

More like in the “Stonetalon Garrosh” kinda way. Like they had two different ideas for the Forsaken in that zone and it just moved forward in an awkward way.

At least that was how I felt when playing through the zone. It hasn’t aged well.

Bastard is nowhere near the same level and you know it lol

The zone is old and dated. It should be updated, not retconned.

She called him “son of a b***h” in Warcraft 3 though.

I’m just annoyed they remove it now after it became so… iconic of Garrosh’s dislike of Sylvanas. I don’t mind them removing mature language in general, but I fear it’s a symptom of the story becoming less and less organic.

And why do you think that is?

Because one as a term describes a dudebro who doesn’t know his father in a society where that isn’t really an issue and hasn’t been for a solid 2 centuries just abouts and is still a human person whereas the other compares a woman to a female dog, thus reducing her to an animal with certain specific characteristics particular to female dogs.

Now if Sylvanas had made choice comments about Little Garrosh, that would be more equivalent. Or if she had pulled out that good ol’ Elven Racial Superiority mixed with some Forsaken Undead Superiority given Garrosh is an Orc. Tit for tat.

But it isn’t.

And in this encounter she didn’t clapback.

If she had with an even worse insult I’d say it’s fair game, tit for tat, accurate presentation.

But the implementation was cringe even back then, for me.

Yeah, but neither did Arthas in Warcraft 3. Why should offensive slangs be balanced in a conversation, and not depend on the relationship between them?

Yeah, dad went to the cig store jokes are not indicative of an issue of child abandonment.

Wait, so the antiquated 200 year old definition doesn’t apply for bastard, but does for this?
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:
No one calls pregnant dogs by that anymore. Especially not in America.

Regardless if you were going to have a dig at Garrosh wouldn’t you go after his Orcish pride as a warrior? Mock his being a weak, sickly invalid and pour some salt in that wound.

What changed? All seems the same to me.
