The channels don’t necessarily have a default. It could be /3 if a player only has General and Trade enabled in that chat tab, but Trade could be /1 and General /2. It just becomes whatever number is next in the sequence that’s unused at that time.
You’ll have to check your general chat settings for your personal Services channel connection.
If you go into your chat settings, you can join the channel from there, you can also reorder the channels if you want them to be standard across other characters.
Honestly, I get it. You didn’t know, it is somewhat innocuous. And, please, there is absolutely NO shade intended here. But at the end of the day it comes down to “This is why we can’t have nice things”. Blame it on those players who didn’t care, racked up years worth of silences and still didn’t change behavior. Blizz had no choice but to up the penalties across the board.
That sounds like the problem right there. LFG tool isn’t for selling things. You didn’t get “mass reported” in the sense that people intentionally tried to silence you by reporting you across multiple toons. You got reported because doing this is really annoying and against the rules for that reason; it clogs up the tool with advertisements.
Based solely on the advertisement, how would I know you weren’t a bot? You’re doing the same thing the bots do, so it would be reasonable to conclude that’s what you are. It doesn’t matter anyways, it’s annoying no matter who’s doing it.
As someone who primarily uses the LFG tool I cannot say emphatically enough to everyone: don’t put advertisements in it. This isn’t just for OP, this is for anyone else who comes across this. Signal boosting.
Actually from what I understand and have been told, numerous times, it WAS a 24 hour silence, but because those people continued to break the rules it was increased to a week.
Which is wild to give the same blanket increased punishment to new rule breakers who haven’t broken the rule before. Wild.
Correct, this is what Vaeana was implying. In the context of what that was in response to, it would read as “historically, it has not been the case that 24 hours was more than enough to send the desired message.”
Which puts us where we are today, silences starting at one week.
The individuals who broke the rules again after a 24 hour silence would have gotten a week the next time anyway. The rule change wasn’t about those specific people. It was the idea that evidently 24 hours wasn’t enough deterrent to stop people breaking the rules the first time, so they raised it for everyone.
I am talking about they used to give out REAL warnings, like “hey cut this out, next time it will be worse” before. I don’t know when they stopped doing that, but it’s insane so jump straight to a harsh punishment.
Saying the punishment is a warning is not. A warning isn’t a punishment. A warning is a warning. Usually indicating, next time it’s a punishment.
warn·ing
a statement or event that indicates a possible or impending danger, problem, or other unpleasant situation.
That was a super long time ago and only for very very mild things where they sent in a GM to give an Educational Warning type talk, when they had the escalating pyramid.
I can also remember threads where players immediately logged out when they were talked to by a GM and pretended not to be given a warning when they get penalised for misconduct against the GM + the original problem.
At all times can they immediately give a penalty. A warning is not required to give one, not even when they were doing the Educational Warning stuffs.
And ya silence is supposed to be a mild punishment compared to a suspension, but it’s literally a silence across YOUR WHOLE BNET and in every version of WOW (Not sure if affects every other game, didn’t really test it, but it does affect every WOW account on, on all versions. EVERY account on it gets silenced. While getting a suspension only affects one account on a BNET.
a week long silence is your warning a big one! They used to give warnings and then 24 hour silence and doubled after that. But they found that to be not effective. So they decided to up the game and get your ATTENTION and by your reaction they got it.
