Its better but different, while wow used to be (and classic will be) a true mmorpg, I think of ff14 as a mmojrpg (you know cause its still a final fantasy game with like 100 hours of cutscenes)
Nope. boring as hell imo. I have a buddy who loves it though. Not for me but thanks!
Ffxiv isnât a bad game, but as classic fanboiz, I gotta say itâs not the game for us. For those that enjoy retail wow, I think ff is a waaay better game.
I played it a couple months agoâŠ
And I found it very boring personallyâŠ
Cons
-
I did not feel like I could customize my character very much as far as playstyle, stats, and abilities.
-
The game was terribly easy⊠even easier than retail wow O_O⊠which is hard to top. Even the hardest stuff in the game isnât that hardâŠ
-
Your character could level and play multiple classes⊠overall felt like my character was less unique and it could just change whenever it was convenient. Personally, I like to make tough, permanent and semi-permanent choices with my rpg characters. Otherwise, it means lessâŠ
-
Questing and the main storyline is awefully boring at the early levelsâŠ
Pros
-
Graphics are decent and the zone are cool.
-
The main storyline is good and satisfying at higher levelsâŠ
Thereâs a HUGE lack of content. âEndgameâ consists of repeatedly running 2 dungeons for a currency to upgrade your gear, then farming 4 bosses until youâre geared enough to farm 1 boss for a weapon. Before farming the same 4 bosses on harder mode.
And then thatâs pretty much it.
Itâs more of a JRPG with MMO like mechanics. So, itâs more story focus than other MMOs. If you enjoy Final Fantasy, very likely youâll enjoy this game.
Be forewarned early game is rough and boring to most people. Itâs around when people hit the first expansion they have a shift in how they feel towards the game.
However, itâs not for everyone and requires a shift in attitude compared to WoW and while theyâre similar theyâre also very different flavors. For example raids in WoW is action pack while FF14s is more like a dance. If that makes sense.
Besides all the Weeb stuff that it has going for, for modern day standards of âMMOâsâ itâs not bad, if youâre tired of BFA or whatever iâd say give it a try. but if youâre more of the type of guy whoâs into Classic WoW kinda stuff it ainât gonna help you get your fix till then.
Edit: iâd also say go try SWTOR for free up to 50, and just do the class mission stuff
i wouldnât say so, i tried it to level 20 something and i didnât like it too much, it follows more in the vein of retail wow
-singleplayer story campaign where youâre the âdestined hero of sortsâ with a bunch of cutscenes
-dungeon finder, from what i played (at least early duenons) on seemed to be just pulling large groups of mobs and aoeing them down just like current wow
-(at least for early levels) mobs are easy like retail and you fight a bunch at once
-everyone can be every class so detracts from uniqueness/rpg aspect
-every zone is instanced, imagine barrens + durotar being in their own separate instances (with even smaller divisions), there are also invisible walls and the zones are all in this enclosed in this terrain that you canât pass
-u can teleport everywhere, shrinking the world even more
-the number of abilities didnât seem to be too high
-no world pvp/factions whatsoever, from what iâve heard the battleground pvp is awful
the benefits iâve seen are a good art style and music, but itâs no where near enough to carry the game
you want to ask people who donât play FF14 why it sucks?
I play it.
Been playing it for (almost) 2 years and Iâm just now about to beat the first expansion.
Limited playtime but even then Iâm having fun casually enjoying it.
When Classic comes out, Iâll be playing that, too.
I canât even stand the art, it has too much clutter.
Do you mean instead of Classic? For me, definitely not. Vanilla WoW is the game I have been wanting to play for way too many years.
I have played FFXIV by the way. Itâs a good game and has some fun aspects in it. I love being able to switch jobs and play every class and do every profession on one character. The story is interesting, and there is fun to be had there for sure. But itâs one of those games that I enjoy playing on the rare occasion. Every now and then I will play for a month here and there. But a month is about as long as it can keep me engaged it seems.
While itâs a fun game in its own right, it donât even compare to Classic for me. Not even close. I played Vanilla when it was live daily and never got bored or looked for anything else to play, until mid-BC. Classic will keep me engaged for a long time like no other game does.
Would only suggest it if you are into heavy story. The game it slower than frozen molasses pre-35, grindy, and slow paced in the combat.
It is hard to suggest playing from the start. If you can catch a sale, buying a job and story boost will do you wonders, but not everyone has 100 to drop on an old game they are new too.
Shadowbringers has been one of the best stories I have experienced, and I am looking forward to trying out the new raid this week. Part of me is tempted to sideline Classic and play it casually while making FFXIV my main MMO, but neither of them compete for space. Comparing them is like apples and oranges; both are MMOs but neither of them play the same at all.
SWTOR is definitely another fun game to play on occasion. I was recently playing that again for a bit.
But if a person really wants to play it I would recommend subscribing to it because the free to play restrictions are a bit ridiculous. One of the worst I have ever saw in a free to play game honestly. I played in the betas and all before it ever went free to play. While itâs still a good game, it went the way of retail WoW too much for me. They removed the talent trees and added specializations like WoW. They drastically speeded up leveling and dumbed down open world content and even heroic missions.
One of the cool things they did though that I like was you can now do solo flash points for the story, which I love.
It would be worth checking out the free to play version for sure. For story, the game canât be beat. But if someone really enjoys it, I would really recommend subscribing. You canât even hide your helm, show your titles or anything without doing that. Or, you can buy it in the cash shop. I always sub when I decide to play for a bit.
I personally would love MHW to be like WoW but not as cartoonly is Dauntless.
If your goal is to find an MMO to play in the down time but not really intersted in the world story or game play. Dont start FF.
On the other hand if you like FF and want to see what could be one of the best stories in the past 10 years of FF, Buy a jump potion and jump into anything post level 50 story. There will be people saying you need the 1-50 story to understand the game but overall you can get all that in a video. The Game is quicker paced than most people would give it credit for at max level. That is to say that much of the amazing things you hear about the game currently are in the last 10 levels of the most recent expansion.
So again if you like FF games and played most of the older ones, this is an homage to everything FF. There will be a ton of nostalgia in the fights you see. If you dont like FF and are a MMO person seeking to sate some hunger, your money is better spent not on FF, or any MMO really.
I never played it either.
Personally, Iâm not a big fan of the animes and jay arr pee gees.
Gnomes annoy me as is, never mind everyone dressed like a Kpop crew shooting fireworks at each other.
Go to their forums and ask if you should play. Leave this forum to this game.
I like the graphics and love the music of FFXIV. Seriously the music is the #1 reason I play the game every so often. Itâs heavily story based compared to WoW. One thing Iâd warn to new players, it will take a VERY long time to get through all the story content pre-Shadowbringers. I also hate how all the boss fights are basically choreographed dance routines. Booooring. Retail WoW just feels much better to me. And classic destroys both in terms of depth and immersion.
Iâm sure this was a troll post, but I will never understand why MMORPG players have to take a dump on every MMORPG theyâre not currently playing. Itâs not just the WoW community either. Itâs every MMORPG community. Itâs okay to find multiple MMORPGs fun.
Thoughts on FFXIV and other games in the MMORPG market below:
GW2, FFXIV, and ESO have all matured just fine. Most recently Iâve been playing ESO, and the people there are far happier with the state of their game than many veteran WoW players are with theirs. Maybe the action combat, lack of a gear treadmill, and the class design (which is really bad IMO) doesnât suit your tastes, but for those whose tastes it does suit, itâs obviously doing a lot of things right.
For my tastes, FFXIV did some things better than WoW back when I played it. During the few years after ARR was released I think the job system was more interesting than what WoW offered. I find the gathering/crafting mini-game to be super fun. If youâre into fashion, I believe FFXIVâs gear is easily the most attractive of any current MMO, though unfortunately the fashion system itself was far below par.
The combat effects from other players that so many complain about can be turned down, and I would even recommend doing so as it does make the game a visual mess otherwise. Endgame options are considerably worse than WoWâs IMO, and thatâs one of the huge downsides Square has never figured out how to fix. My own biggest problems with FFXIV are that (1) the commitment demanded of the player is super uneven â it takes a lot of time to feel like youâre caught up with the game, but then itâs like, âOkay, what did I do all that for?â â and (2) people in FFXIV are way more toxic than people in WoW during group play. Outside of the game and during casual overworld play the community in FFXIV was infinitely better than WoWâs had become when I played it, but man, the dungeon/raiding crowd in FFXIV was filled with truly horrible people. The WoW community has nothing on FFXIVâs when it comes to intolerance of suboptimal play.
