Should they bring back Alpha Duskwood?

Maybe for you. I quit in Cata week 1.

Being able to see all the way across The Barrens with perfect clarity in the middle of the night is just goofy.

At that point why not just let me set the time of day? I’d make it 7am in every zone.

It was important to the design team to have day/night cycles and to have them sync’d up with real life to give the world that sense of immersion. I went to BlizzCon once and there was a panel where they talked about it. You might only play on the evenings during the week but when you play on the weekends you see the world in a whole new light (my paraphrasing, pun very much intended).

The flip side of that though is that they didn’t want to shroud the world in darkness for those people who could only play in the game’s evening hours. So they made everything quite visible but you still get the sense that it’s night with some pretty clear visual distinction.

I respect that you don’t like this, but changing a core visual design element of the game probably isn’t the best idea as a global change, or even a zone-wide change for duskwood. I agree with you that it’s a cool idea though and I’m trying to find ways to jump on board, just in a different setting.

If it’s make or break for you that it has to be outdoors and you’re not willing to discuss anything outside that, I’m sorry, I can’t support that. You will just have to adjust your monitor settings to get the localized experience you want… which is something you can do right now.

My $0.02c

Night in zones are just as bright as day time, but with a star night sky, which is so bizarre.

Making the zones darker thematically or even darkening night would add a lot of flavor to the zones, for the better. Not blindingly dark, but at least noticeable so.

As specifically for duskwood, not sure how they would add the lightning mechanic back, unless they just outright added a consumable to brighten your light radius (straight out of Diablo-like ARPGs), since the torch offhand mechanic would not work.

I might have missed another response here in the thread but from an accessibility standpoint, in 2004 there were not a lot of options for vision impaired gamers to improve things on their end. While we have this now, it 100% made sense for the ‘casual mmo’ to have been more considering of that fact. Whether intentional idk, but it definitely helped.

I did not even consider visually imparred gamers… I just thought that if somone was only to play at night they would be crippled by a loadout that’s req specifically to play at night greatly chaning how they get to play and all that.

While an interesting concept, it could only work if the Day / Night cycle was 25% of actual instead of the present 1:1

Something they could do is change it to where if a player wants that, they can click a button and make it happen and if another player doesn’t want that they can click a button and make it happen.

I’d love the option (like a settings toggle) to adjust how dark nights get. If I want spooky Duskwood, let me do that. If people with visual problems don’t want it, they can leave the setting off.

Add a cheap torchlight enchant for weapon, or oil and fire consumable to put
on your weapon to use for light.

Sometimes your opinions are the worst.

I’d totally enjoy questing Duskwood if it were dark like that. Maybe it could be rolled into an event of sorts? “Classic +”?

Maybe you should just close your eyes in Duskwood?
