Should the races in this game have restrictions on what classes they can play as?

I haven’t played this game in forever and I just noticed that Taurens can now choose the rogue class. I thought this was funny, because when I was a kid I thought the reason why they couldn’t become rogues is cause they are too big therefore can’t blend into the environment well and they have hooves for feet, so they would clop and make noise where ever they go. I was watching a youtube video about this and I read a comment and they said why shouldn’t they be able to become rogues? In FF14 any race can become any class they want even if it is silly. For example the lalafells are tiny, but they can choose tank classes like warriors and tank giant raid bosses despite their size. So I thought that was kinda a good point, why not allow the races in this game be almost any class in the game? The explanation I heard as to why races in this game have restrictions to certain classes is because of lore. I understand why evokers are restricted for obvious reasons, and from what I googled briefly, according to lore the reason why only night/blood elves can become evokers is because those two are the only races Illidan taught. But for the other classes why can’t the races choose to be any of those? I heard there is “lore” reasons why certain races can’t be certain classes, but apparently Blizzard sometimes doesn’t respect those reasons and lets those races choose them anyways, is that true and which race/class combo is that exactly? If you can be a stealth cow why not a mecha gnome druid? I also find it odd that the lightforged draenei and highmountain tauren have more class restrictions than the normal versions of those races? Why? Is it for lore reasons? I remembered back when shaman and paladin where special classes cause they were faction locked, it used to be that only Alliance had paladins and Horde had Shamans. Then blood elves and draenei came out and changed that.

The tauren thing was sorted ages ago, just took a long time to implement.

Pretty much they just carry some shrubs around and paint their hooves red.

Not sure when we will get tauren demon hunters but i hear the illadairy is a thing.

No and i’ve yet to hear any legit reason why they should remain. That said, they’re already planning on unlocking the rest as time goes on, though i seem to recall hearing only Dracs will get Evoker, but we’ll see.

Should there be restrictions? Yes absolutely.

But blizzard is going in a different direction so whatever. I just hope they do it with as much respect for the lore as possible.

Simple answer to the topic…yes…they used to have restrictions but Blizzard doesn’t care no more and people are demanding the lore be violated and all races be all classes.

Yes, its called lore, and its call being reasonable. If the only reason anyone can make for why a race should be a class that lore wise they either cant be, or are a contradiction to themselves and their entire existence, is, “Well it would be cool”
Thats a poor reasoning.

But hey im just a random dreg of the internet so.

Then should Taurens be allowed to become rogues?

There is a … um … difference of opinion on this topic in the community. It seems to be a good way to start a barfight around here.

But whichever philosophy one prefers, we have been getting classes opened up to all races one at a time for a little while now as the art team/QA completes all the needed animations.

Goblins and Gnomes are goofy enough to not take the lore seriously that a few classes explained it as using technology, such as the Gnomish priests are actually using medicine. Mechadruids could be scientists.

Isn’t Tauren rogue a silly combination though? If they are allowing that, why not go all in and allow all race/class combos?

They have already trashed the lore of the Draenei next patch when they allow them to become warlocks. So don’t hold your breath.

Based on what they been doing lately I think the company position is ‘no’ probably will get most classes on most races.

As for me I didn’t mind restrictions but I don’t mind freedom either. I am happy either way.

I kinda like that as a explanation for how those races could be those classes, but wouldn’t they have to rename a bunch of spells and attacks to fit that theme lol.

Is it like one person on multiple alts making the exact same thread?

I really don’t understand why lore has to be so rigid. At one time the Horde was just inherently evil. No questions asked vile and also metal AF. Then some lore happened and now we have the current Horde. While, I personally think it would be super awesome if they kept the Horde rampaging murderers, I can’t see myself being unable to accept it like those against the changes seem to be. Let the races of Azeroth evolve.

you are assuming i think that race combo is good too.

I am not assuming that I think you think that race combo is good, I was wondering if they allow this combo into the game why not allow all of them?

That is the logical consequence of these combos.

If you drop you food on the ground once, pick it up, and eat it, and nothing happens. Why dont you just drop all your food on the ground and eat off it?

If i throw a rock at a window and it does not break, that does not mean i should keep throwing rocks at it.

Just because they put in one bad class combo, is not justification for continuing to make a bad set of decisions.

At this point, i think so. Just one person pretending to care about the lore and muh race/class combos that break muh lore lol
