Should JCs be able to add gem sockets?

This is the whole reason I love timewalking, I can do and where what ever gear I want to wear for the timewalking event that week. What a wonderful era for WoW it was when you could decide how to enchant your gear, whether it be for pvp or pve. Numerous enchants just for one slot, same with gems, especially when Cataclysm gems hit as Mastery was introduced, I believe we still had spirit as a stat, I can’t remember when spirit was removed.

Plethora of choices made for a unique individual experience and build. No two same class / same spec were alike. Gem slots were a different color too, while at times was annoying, required you to determine the bis gem for that slot.

Was fun cutting Cataclysm gems, even when they were 5+10 stat for timewalkers and others.

Now, well, we all know what it’s like now. Haste is important to reduce your GCD so that means gear with Crit and mastery may as well be vendored

Yes. Immediately.

In cataclysm Jewelcrafting/enchanting was a licence to print gold because it was mandatory to gem/enchant basically every piece of gear upgrade.

Well yeah, just like how it’s mandatory to bring flasks (or just have cauldrons made) and food/rune buffs

It would just bring jewelcrafting and enchanting up to that level of importance again, which is good. Jewelcrafting more so because of aforementioned reasons

As a blacksmith, I used to be able to add gem sockets to my own bracers and gloves.

I could make belt buckles for everyone else.

As a jewelcrafter, I was able to cut the most powerful gems for myself.

Blizzard took all of that fun away from me.

I want to see a return of socket-making among other things. Feels like it could add some good demand onto some unused professions.

That being said: Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers, and tailors should get that ability. The gear crafting professions could really use the help right about now.

Not really. flasks and food was for raiders. Nearly all your gear had sockets/enchants and the culture in pve heroic dungeons and any pvp was that you had to have every new piece of gear enchanted and gemmed correctly or be excluded/ridiculed.

So jewlcrafters, enchanters and I believe transmuting alchemists were making serious bank while every other profession sucked or was mandatory for the +critical strike bonus etc

Na, they just reduced the slots one could enchant, like we used to be able to “enchant” all slots, now they seem to pick and choose based on the expansion. Like in legion it was cloaks and necks, in BFA it is rings and weapons. Next one, who knows? we could get cloaks back.

100% this, and i’m a JC

Sockets should simply not be RNG, then there would be no need for JCs to be able to add them.

Jewelcrafters should be able to add a socket to a necklace, ring or a trinket, from a logical standpoint.

Leather workers, tailors and blacksmiths should be able to add them to gear, again, logically.

But the game devs do what the game devs do and apparently a random roll is better for the health of the game, along with gems that are worth less cut than their uncut state and a BoP crafted ring that costs more than several game tokens in materials to get the correct roll.

This is so true. Inscription is practically worthless. Vantus runes, and scrolls for missing buffs is all they provide (and neither of those are particularly useful, since Vantus runes provide a small versatility buff against one boss for raiders only, and the scroll buffs are only useful for progression content where you need that buff but dont have the class, AND they fall off at death, making them expensive to maintain (and they don’t have a DH or Monk debuff analogue either). And they make trinkets and off-hands that have never relevant in BfA, except maybe at the start of the xpac when the Darkmoon trinkets were worth anything. In 8.2, they added a new offhand and some new trinkets with cool effects, except they can’t be upgraded in ilvl, which is messed up when alchemists can upgrade their trinket, and jewelcrafters can upgrade their rings. Inscriptionists literally have no self benefit, and no actually useful benefit to anyone else (jewelcrafters are close in this regard, though).

Seriously, professions need to be useful again. I abandoned inscription on my main for engineering as it provides way more self benefits, as well as group benefits, than inscription does, and allows me to more easily make gold because engineering has items that sell better than inscription glyphs, plus the great (upgradable) gear.

Sure, why not.

Also bring back the BS buckle for a belt slot, bring back true head enchants from BC/wrath, leg enchants, shoulder enchants, and sockets bring color matching with bonuses. Stop this WF junk to roll a socket.

What about giving all three armor crafting professions the ability to add a socket to that profession’s given gear type? It would give each alot of value an equality to each other given they can actually gain the same bonuses. I would almost say give jewelcrafters the ability of making the belt buckle instead of the blacksmith (kinda makes sense), and adding a socket to a neck piece, that makes it that you might only gain one additional socket from going jewelcrafter (since the belt is not specific to the jc).

Though than how to buff up the appeal of alchemy, and enchanting to compare to the bonuses of the added sockets gained. I mean you could go where to get meta gem, or even high level/quality gems for meta gems you need these professions. like to crate the gem that is used for the meta gem, you need a alchemist to transmute a specific set of gems, than a enchanter imbues that meta gem to actually give it it’s power/bonus effect.

Not every socket mind you of a given armor type, but the same number of sockets. So like three sockets or something they could add (head, chest, boots).

Professions were most useful when they all had their own consumables.

These days the only ones I seem to be able to squeeze any profit out of are just Alch and Enchant.

JC cuts hardly sell. People just don’t have sockets to put them in, considering that they are not only RNG but also how willing people are to take ilvl> gemsocket just to inflate their average.
