Should I come back?

I haven’t played since Mists. I used to raid hardcore, but I’m too old for bleeding edge now.

I love PvP. My favorite memories were getting a man through the alliance gauntlet to get into a raid instance. I’m not interested in classic though. Is PvP more or less interesting now? I’m not a griefer, but it bugged me that alliance and horde got along a little too much in the open world, which BfA seems to nullify - or do I understand it poorly?

Is the biggest issue that it seems to be that grinding gear is now obnoxious? In the past expansions invalidated my raid gear with greens pretty fast, but as I understand that timeline is far faster now. Is that correct?

If you support this system what can you say about it that you think is good?

Also, as I plunge through WoD should I bother with garrison activities or just run to 120?

The answer is no. I’ll let GD explain, as this is a beaten to death topic.

I couldn’t imagine playing a great expansion like MoP then taking a long break and coming back to an excrement like BfA.

From a PvP perspective, the only thing that’s really new since MOP is warmode. Basically PvP servers don’t exist anymore, instead you flag yourself for PvP in your capital city and then join PvP shards (instances of the world with other PvP flagged players). Blizzard bribes people to do this with passive exp/rep gain, titles and extra objectives.

This, combined with "World Quests"™, creates areas of natural conflict all around the world that can be fun. Of course, its still often just a griefing scene. Depends on the enemy and the hour.

If you ever open world PvP’d in an MMO that does it better like Rift or Warhammer, this is essentially Blizzard stealing that system. Better late than never I suppose.

From a gameplay perspective, theres been a lot of skill pruning. I hypothesize that the activision finance dudes / dudettes have been making the case for years that WoW is the dominant MMO on PC, but console is an exponentially bigger market, and WoW’s competitors ESO and FF are running the show there. So skills are progressively pruned, either to see if this game could work on console, or to get us used to fewer skills for a next-gen WoW that includes console. Personally I’ve been playing fairly decently on a Steam Controller (typically parsing H Uldir around the 50% mark), so they’re getting pretty close to achieving the dream. But it’s definitely a turn off for some people who insist that a game isn’t fun without 20 extra abilities in the rotation.

Yea, I can tell. It’s hard to parse the full situation from this end and conversations devolve into indecipherable bickering.

If I may ask - what’s keeping you here? Sunk cost?

warmode sounds fun but I can’t be bothered to find people to do it with. if you have friends that love to pvp, maybe give it a try.

Well, ironically, even though this mmo has severely degenerated over the years it’s the most convenient mmo for me to play due to life/job. How I miss playing for days straight in high school back in vanilla/bc…

Other than that, the wow token. Blizz couldn’t get me to pay my own actual money to play this game in it’s current state if they tried. So playing for free is a big staple for me to stick around.

Thanks - that was very insightful. I did enjoy Warhammer for a brief stint.

I did notice the greatly reduced skills. I’m not sure how I feel about them, but honestly I don’t think I used most of them anyway - the rotation was the rotation.

@Sinistrë

That makes sense. That situation sounds familiar to me with all the kids running around.

It is worth coming back for, but the down side is the end-game gets boring quick. So like I mainly PvP too, but they removed Gear Vendors so now it’s a weekly cap for a gear piece and you also get gear from wins - most of it is lower tier unless you push some rated. So yea I think it’d be worth coming back for, Just sayin that end-game gets boring quick but you could always just level alts to 120 and try them out in PvP, push some rated, etc

Blizzard had a promotion for a boat mount if you purchased six months of game time. Kultiras having a lot of water, I thought it would be a good deal. Turns out the boat doesn’t float and by the next week I was done with BFA.

I’ve tried to get a refund for the remaining game time but was told I can’t. Would pass it off to you if they would let me, but then again I don’t hate you.

i learned long ago to try something myself. even my friends and people with same taste are not always on same page for entertainment.
let alone letting strangers make my choice

@Shadowy

What do you mean push rated? Is there some more defined matchmaking system in place of honor points?

@Muiria

I agree, but it never hurts to ask questions. Everyone has a bias and somewhere in the middle you can find some useful info.

Yes in example i don’t know the numbers but a typical BG will drop a piece of 330-350 gear from a win, but if you push Rated (2v2,RBG’s, etc) the drop you will get from a win will be increased way up, so it will be like 360-380 just because you are participating in Rated activity and have Rating

Also they did away with Honor :frowning: It’s now a diff system where it goes towards Prestige levels which is mainly like little icons next to your portrait, and you get rewards such as Mounts/Titles as you get higher - so yea any “Honor” you get goes towards Prestige levels, like a little progress bar in your pvp tab

Theres no pvp gear anymore. I quit in cata and came back for bfa. No pvp gear and no flying were both pretty major let downs for me. Classes are not nearly as good and world quests get old fast. Best in slot is also a thing of the past which sucks (at least for me) because you have no idea what gear you should be going for. Other than that its basically the same old wow. If pathfinder stays and they dont bring back pvp gear next expac, this will probably be my last go at wow.

Edit: Also proffessions are completely useless now, unless youre a mount/pet farmer.

Honestly there is just too much to type lol, Alot of new systems have come in place which really have made alot of ppl mad including myself but it is what it is - it’s worth coming back for because you’ll mostly be level’ing (most likely 110-120 since the free boost) and then at 120 you’ll see how things are and catch on pretty quick

I’m still playing although not as much as I once did due to health reasons, however, if you enjoy the game it’s your choice. One thing I recommend to people is not to get overwhelmed with things and set your own pace - I don’t race to the end game because I enjoy the journey to get there. Take your time and play the game for the entertainment factor and don’t make it a job.

short answer: No.

End game gets boring quick as others have stated not to mention every aspect of the game is like a slot machine. This is not the warcraft I remember.
