Should arthas even return

I mean look at what they did with slyvanas.

Sylvanas was always a garbage character. Queen of cringe.

Arthas was a solid character. He had a rise and then fall. He had a good end to his character. Blizzard should leave him be.

Sylvanas never left, unfortunately.

Arthas should be left alone, though. His story finished.

No, we need new heroes and villains to take his place. With the loss of Varian we were able to see more of Anduin. And while he hasn’t quite filled his father’s role, he’s slowly making his way.

I also don’t want to see Illidan again.

Should they leave Arthas (and all the other characters that we’ve had emotional goodbyes to) alone? Yes. For the love of God, yes. Why did we leave them if we just get to see them again. It negates the emotional trade-off.

But hey, they want people to keep playing the game so they’re going to dangle our favorite characters in front of us, just to see them in a 30 second clip (Poor Garrosh).

So yeah, seeing Arthas again is probably a 50/50 bet. Heck, we already got his voice in Sylvanas cinematic. They might use that as a way to start tying him in.

“Are we really going to defile this grave for money? Oh course we are!”

Nah. Kaelthas et al coming back just feels dumb.

He’s currently empowering Shalamourne.

Been here all along.

I am wondering if the control exerted over Anduin is by use of Arthas’ soul… and, if that is the case, Ner’zhul is involved somewhere…

Ner’zhul is too splintered to be in control.

But it’s a creepy thought, isn’t it?

It isnt it just be rehashing stuff. I personally think arthas is going to be ruined by dansuer. Hes already stated arthas was responsible when he picked up frostmourne. And every actions afterwards.

No, the current writers would completely ruin his character and introduce countless retcons which would recontextualize his actions and lose what made him a compelling character in the first place. They were already dangerously close to ruining Illidan back in legion with the whole “chosen one” thing.

True: Arthas dug the hole and jumped in. However, didn’t the Nathrezim make him do it… that’s a whole new layer of heck.

Now, it’s up to the writers to fumble that pass.

I think Arthas should. It mean this whole expansion is just one big disappointment over the fact that this was suppose to be the Expansion where we see Dead Heroes and not only only one of them from each zones or basically the whole story about Sylvanas being the spotlight all the time.

Man Arthas not showing up and having pieces of redemption in the afterlife is the great injustice to anyone who was rooting for him to kill the Dreadlord once and for all but nope. Just Wasted Potential.

Arthas is good right where he is.

He’s got a good book even, and whatever criticism you have about Christie Golden I would still recommend Rise of the Lich King to anyone who wanted to know more about him and his history prior to WOTLK. She really knocked it out of the park with that one.

We theorize they have an “in case of sub loss break glass” box with arthas in it… but I really hope that’s not the case. It would be cool to put in little easter eggs, like maybe a soul that references their last momends in Stratholme before he clubs them with a warhammer, or maybe we run into King Terenes and he has a word with his daughter about Arthas not being at rest… you know: RP elements… but those aren’t really present in game to my knowledge.

I would hope the devs feel the same.
If not… well… I hope they at least leave him some dignity and don’t do an Arthas x Sylvanas arc.

Honestly, I would kind of like Arthas to return so we can learn more about how things happened with him and the whole Lich King thing

But I don’t trust the writers to handle it properly, so I have to say no.

Arthas should not return

No. Never. But he’ll probably return. And I’m really afraid with what blizzard will do to him. Just imagine how silly will be if he get a redemption arc or something.

It was neat to have Lich King Arthas’ echoes return during Legion if you were a frost DK with the artifact weapon equipped. But other than that, no, Arthas’ story was great and he should be left alone.

Yes, he should. His redemption story would pwn Illidan’s.
It’s a perfect set up, given his back story from the Rise of the Lich King book and now this expansion.

I’ve been harping on this for years now. Yeeaaarrrrsss.

However, the current story telling has been decidedly lacking, shall we say. Some other posters have a very valid point that if Arthas was brought back, the current team would mess it all up. So, I’m somewhat torn.
