Isnt a shard a server? Is it the new wave of forum warriors using this term? Can we just back to calling them realms and servers.
Sharding is a term that became known in Legion. It is how the devs describe your character being moved from a high population server to a low population server temporarily and automatically with no action needed on your part.
The purpose is to reduce server load so that we have minimal to no issues in terms of staying logged in the server and not experiencing lag when many others are also logging on and playing.
