Shadowlands boring so far

Unfortunately, I have to agree that SL is very boring. It took me less than a week to find it boring and not wanting to log in. I’ve played since vanilla and have never been bored with an xpac so soon. It usually takes me 6 months to a year to get bored with an xpac, but one week??? Can’t really say why I think it’s boring, but I have very little desire to play it already. Just my opinion, but I’d say it’s not worth the money if you haven’t already purchased the xpac. Maybe the first big patch will improve things. Yeah, I’ll still play it some, but I was hoping for something better than this.

Bastion’s quests could have been more interesting but I think it has a place in lore. I mean it reveals that Spirit Healers are Kyrian Watchers. That’s pretty cool, creating context for the weird angel folks we’ve been seeing when dead since forever.

yeah i got to 60 with druid and it was pain full to say the least. like wow that was bad. So the good, one zoned looked good the zombie arm looked amazing, the voice acting is really good to, music is nice, armor looks good for plate. Bad everything lol, not trying to be mean but wow.

The zones boring and just the same places we have just reskinned me and my friend find all the place they just copied and pasted in like 2hours. Quests same thing just reword a few things done. Mounts just recolored ones we have, the covenants suck, like only one has anything good for it and the other 3 are trash, i went with the army guys because i wanted to try something other then the one everyone is picking, because why wouldn’t you pick night fae they have the best by far, the others give u noting good or even useless full. As for Torghast did it 2 times didn’t die just gave up because its boring, did some dungs and they are just to small and boring too. the armor looks bad, like I have no idea what they are thinking. Look back at TBC armor for all the classes looks amazing! now SL… plate looks okay. over all its bad. I wish I could get my money back I would take it in a heart beat.

I’m happy for those who like it good luck to you, as for me I’ll go play something fun, made by people who care, and not by people who just want to copy the work of others and just recolor it and call it shadow lands

I’m gonna be completely honest.

I’ve found levelling 50-60 to be a complete drag. Both Bastion and Ardenweald are gorgeous-looking zones, but the storyline all the way through has been a complete snooze-fest. I don’t think I’ve managed much more than 2 hours before getting so bored I had to log off. I almost didn’t make it through Maldraxxus. Drab zone, difficult to navigate around, not much of a plot to speak of… oh, and I just had Divine Toll taken off me.

SL leveling is not bad, per se. It’s not much of anything, really. In fact, I’m not sure I could tell you what the zone stories even were. It’s just… doing the quests and getting the XP, and that’s about all. There’s no excitement. There’s no engagement. And in particular, there’s no sense of urgency.

EDIT 1: Actually, on reflection this isn’t 100% accurate. The initial quests in the Maw were exciting and engaging, but from Bastion onwards it was really just a matter of doing the quests for XP.

EDIT 2: I’ve had a think about my lack of engagement with the story. I think the main issue is this… Sure, these people have their problems. I’m just not sure, at this stage, why their problems are MY problem. I just don’t feel connected to what’s going on. For example, I gather there’s some sort of political machinations going on in Revendreth. But what’s it to me? What’s the stakes for me? I don’t understand any of it.

System grind, system grind, system grind on top of actual gear grind.
I think I am no longer the target audience of this game.

I generally don’t complain but man getting through Ardenweald is tough. Not interesting in the least

They phoned it in. They probably outsourced the dialogue lol. They even saved money on voice actors and actresses. So many people are voiced by the same person who does Sylvanas and it’s soooo obvious.

The zones are all stunning, in fact the art is the only well done thing this expac, although ill give dungeons an 8/10.

Is it boring ? Well kinda yeah, im ilvl 186 i have literally nuthing to do except maw dailies for an entire week.

I dont remember the last time i was close to raid logging an expansion 9 days in.

M+ will give me something to do but the time gating saga of the miniscule ammount of content there is this expansion is rather glaring.

Even the renown unlocks this week took me an hour at most, add toghast and i had about 2 hours of content that meant anything .

This feels like a regular expansion 6 months in only its day 2 of week 2 lol.

Im not even sure why, but I struggled to level my character and had to walk away quite a few times. Then I hit 60 and a ton of stuff opened up and I’m finding myself way more engaged now.

I am in game right now, trying to force myself to play a game I paid money for. I don’t think the game is bad, I think it’s actually quite good. I’m just tired of this formula, and that’s why it is also boring me to tears. I’ve logged in 3 times this week, and every time the game acts as an ASMR video, because I’m so bored I fall asleep. I literally don’t care about the story. I even tried to avoid skipping the quest text and I just couldn’t do it. The zones look cool, but so far they are stupidly annoying to navigate, and all of the quests are the same ol’ same ol’. I get that it’s difficult to just do something completely new, but I just think I’m tired of that formula in an MMO. It was fun when it was fresh and new back when the game released, but whatever number of expansions later this is… I don’t know, it’s just not pulling me in.

I think the fun of MMO’s has always come from the social aspect and feeling like you’re a small piece of a larger world. You’re the largest piece of this world, and everyone else around you is too, you’re all the “HERO TO END THEM ALL.” And that’s just lame to me. I’d rather be a peasant trying to make his way in the world, than the “chosen one.”

I think I just need to be playing something more open ended, or that has a bit more variety to the content than just… questing, questing, dungeon, questing, questing, dungeon, questing, questing, raid, instanced pvp, farm rep, farm rep, farm currency, farm dailies. There are no adventures in WoW to be had, just menial tasks to do to get more loot.

Agreed with all the above. Another main disconnect is, we left Azeroth with a sword sticking in her after 2 years of trying to repair that and… nothing? No quests to send us back to Azeroth to check on how it’s doing, just stay in the SL and grind of the new currency for the next 16 weeks. Considering how much time you made us spend trying to fix out planet, it might be nice to have some closure there. But no, we are sent straight into the grind with no hint of what the overarching plot is, other than kill Sylvanias & the Jailor a few years down the road.

As for something more open ended, 2077 drops on the 9th; I doubt we’ll see a queue for WoW for a few months after that date.

No I wasn’t burnt out. I don’t like the zones. I think they are small and bland. These zones do not make me want to explore them. I think the Ardenweald aesthetic (redone combination of moonglade and nightelf aesthetic is old. The zone has fairy people why not have us in the treetops for change with ramps and catwalks and tree buildings. Some people even swear that some zones are reskins of Nazjatar. Idk doesn’t seem like the usual creativity was put into this expac. The hub city of Orobos is small and dull. I tried several classes and they still neglect some classes and I don’t feel like grinding rep and renown and soul ash and whatnots. I maybe just tired of WoW right now. These are my opinions. I am no expert. But I know what I like. If a game has me wanting to take off from work to play or if I cant wait to get home to play ,I like it. It is just not there this time for me. They dont have to change a thing for me. This expac may not be for me. With that being said ,I hope the rest of you guys have fun. Happy Holidays and see you in 2 years.

I just hit 60 today as well. I didn’t really enjoy it either. The reason I kept playing was that I wanted to go back and do horrific vision while OP’ed.

I went into A Horrific Vision and found out that at Level 60 and ilvl 152, it is even harder now than it was before the level squish when I was level 50 and ilvl 130. So now, the part of the previous expansion I liked the most is now also unenjoyable :frowning:

Had a blast getting to 60, ran a couple dungeons and only really liked one of them, chose a covenant and then did my anima turn ins before getting the weekly for them. I really don’t like the Maw zone. I’m already bored with the anima grind and I really liked the opening of Torgast before I found out that was just the intro and now I have to run it again.

And then again every week if I want a legendary.

So I went into week 2 already behind on renown and soul ash and not fond of the only ways of getting specific currencies. I really enjoyed Theater of pain but other than that the dungeons went from eh to nah. I still haven’t even done De Other Side.

Tie all that in with the PS5 launch and Cyberpunk 2077 next week and I have a lot of other games asking for my time. I think SL launching when it did was a bad idea and if they couldn’t hit their initial date then perhaps push it further back.

I can’t remember an expac where I went from excited to feeling like logging in is a chore this quickly. I miss raiding, but I’ve never had this much reticence to prep for it and I blame SL splitting artifact power/azurite into 3 separate “optional but not really” grinds.

I still think the main problem with SL is the main problem with BfA. The devs spend so much time on gearing and power systems and, frankly, they’re a complete snoozefest. I don’t mean that these particular power systems have been poorly implemented, I mean that power systems in general aren’t engaging content. They’re just a thing… that exists. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

There are five cornerstones to a successful xpac:

  1. An iconic villain that poses an obvious existential threat.
  2. Good-looking zones with stories that matter.
  3. Players being actively involved in the story, rather than just spectators.
  4. Well-designed dungeons.
  5. Well-designed raids.

These things should be the PURPOSE of the xpac, and 95% of the effort.

It’s far, far too early to say that SL is my favorite expansion, but I know that I’m having a lot of fun so far. Sorry that you’re not - I guess give it a patch or two and see what happens!

I agree that this expansion has offered like literally nothing special that I was hoping for, but I disagree that the zones are bad… I find them pretty up to my standard, however that’s all the expansion has been… standard. Better than absolute doodoo (BFA).
