Title. I’m not exactly sure what causes this (might be DirectX 12?), but on three separate pulls now we’ve had some of our players’ games freeze at very specific times (always, without fail, when a Dutiful Attendant reaches one of the bosses and starts channeling into him/her.
It isn’t a shared WeakAura because in that situation we’d all be experiencing the same problem at the same time. The only person among the ~seven people who experienced this issue who got it all three times was one of our Paladins.
Here’s a clip from my PoV of it happening. Our Death Knight and one of our Paladin healers got this exact same freeze at the exact same time, we don’t know what actually causes it, but it’s immensely frustrating because it just causes us to wipe immediately if it happens.

Obvious strong language warning. I wasn’t very impressed so I could very realistically see myself swearing a lot about it.
I figured I’d add this detail, too: the freeze lasted exactly one minute. The very beginning of this freeze was roughly a second and a half before this clip and the final second of this clip showcased what happened when it finally un-froze.
Oh, and having this happen broke our interrupt WeakAuras afterwards too.
I don’t know what this is but it’s extremely frustrating and contributes a lot towards making this boss feel so inconsistent to progress on.
EDIT 1: Just to clarify, it isn’t always on Frieda either. We’ve had it happen twice on her and once on Stavros, who we kill second. I can very realistically see us getting this in P3 too; and it’s a complete wipe if this happens since we do not have the DPS or the HPS to account for three people being out of commission for the majority of the fight because they DC’d and died to Dark Recital.
If it’s not occurring for everybody I would think a client side issue, do they all share a specific add on or config? If possible you should all test run the boss with no add ons on to see.
It wouldn’t be Details, or DBM/BigWigs, or a WeakAura. I don’t believe there’s any addon that every single one of the affected players had that somebody else wouldn’t have, and the strange thing is that there was only one person who was affected all three times. DirectX 12 is the only universal factor here.
We all use Details, including unaffected players. I was affected and use DBM, and one of our other Hunters was affected and uses BigWigs. All fight-specific WeakAuras are shared among the entire raid so everyone would’ve been affected if it was one of those.
This isn’t on the table. We’d wipe within about 30 seconds to the first Dark Recital because of how impossible it would be to react to it without an addon helping out; even though the first Attendant spawns very quickly the issue has affected us several minutes into the fight as well, which we would never be able to replicate. This boss is literal addon hell, so to speak.
Once again, though, this isn’t even a truly consistent problem. We’ve had this happen three times over the course of 104 pulls. It isn’t something we get every pull but when we get it it’ll always brick an attempt hard.
Unfortunately, unless you test without addons (meaning you rename the addon folder, not just unload them), there’s no way to point to this as Blizzard’s own client having an issue. There’s also the fact that lots of guilds are killing it without freezing, so maybe some weakaura packs from other instances are colliding. Maybe some other addons that poll data from other players are colliding. It’s impossible to know unless testing sans add-ons is performed just for the purpose of troubleshooting. Until then, this would be classified as a third-party software issue, and therefore not something officially supported here.

Same thing just happened tonight for our guild. 7 of us experienced this issue off and on all night. There was no identifiable addon or WA set up that triggered it, we all tried switching DirectX, one person completely uninstalled his addons. Nothing stopped the crashes. Some players who crashed used DBM, some did not, some used the CN WA package, some didn’t, some were using the Dark Recital WA, some were not. Most of the raid was fine with any of these, up to date DBM, out of date DBM, ect. Hardware was also not consistent across the raid.
For us it almost always happened shortly after the final dance, right when the Stoneguard spawned and Dark Recital started, with occasional freezes/crashes at other points.
Guess it’s DBM.
We had several wipes to this crap last night as well, but at least I now know with absolute certainty that it’s an addon thing.
Glad you found it. The community was trying to help with their suggestion to turn them off from the start.

I understand that, but it’s very, very unfeasible to turn off all addons for a fight of this nature and expect to see anything more than the first forty seconds of the fight when we’ve been having these freezes occur several minutes into the fight as well. The only feasible solution would’ve been switching over to BigWigs, but that would’ve defeated the purpose of disabling all addons anyway.
Anyway, problem identified albeit not solved because this is a DBM thing.
