This is not the firs time they have done this. We have been saying for YEARS “stop shoving esports down our throats”
Maybe you could have expected civility 4-5 years ago, but not now.
If someone says “hey, please don’t do that”
“Please stop that”
“Hey, cut it out”
“I said stop”
And you keep on doing it, you don’t get to complain when they then lash out afterward.
I dont think people are complaining about Blizzard communicating with us. Most of us are happy when they do that.
But, y’know, what they say will be either liked or disliked, which are both statements on matters of opinion. Not the method of relaying the information.
That is not communication. That is an advertisement for e-sports. Communication would involve reasons for this focus, what they think it will do for the game etc. If they recieved vitriol in response, that shouldn’t be a surprise.
“Celebrating one of the most out of touch things WoW has to offer, and we’ll try to sneak in a way for the community to fund it because we’re too cheap to!” - Blizzard probably
Yes, but when players are asking for communication, they are not asking for advertisements. Surely you understand that? I know understanding subtext and implied meaning may be moving us from English 101 to English 102, but surely it’s not too much of a leap?
If my wife says, “I really wish you’d communicate with me,” and my response is, “You know Pelotons are currently on sale, they are a great way to get in shape for the New Year,” how exactly do you think the rest of that conversation is going to go?
If the ratio is so artificial, where are all the players jumping for joy and psyched about this announcement? Aside from the career shills, I’ve counted like… 2
