FIVE TIMES I attempted Stormarion event TODAY! FIVE TIMES. 3 of those FIVE TIMES the server SHARDED to another STUPID shard.
I AM SO SICK OF THIS! This is TICKING me off! What kind of TRASH is this, Blizzard?! This MONTH ALONE I’ve also been sharded out of 4 WORLD QUESTS in progress and got NO credit.
I hate being in a shard where nobody does Stomarion too, once that content is old how are they expecting late comers to farm out void rep?
I had a full group this last time and there were 4 other people. It was LITERALLY with 2 minutes left on the clock for stage 3. BAM shard BAM we all lost our cores.
THIS IS TRASH!
Honestly after trying to do it myself and realizing its impossible I stopped doing it. I get that its tied to rep but they have to be joking with the inconsistency, and also the sharding issue.

Normally I don’t respond to the three trolls in this thread, who need to be permanently banned from this board, but I am so sick of these punks spreading mis information about this game while intentionally lying about anything they can say to troll whatever I post.
Sharding “isn’t supposed” to do it if you are in a group and it’s NOT supposed to break world quests - BUT IT DOES, AND IT HAS BEEN, BECAUSE IT’S BUGGY TRASH THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

edit2: And if you watch the conversation in this video that I have over the next half hour, you’ll see that one of the other members in the group has had the exact same issues that I have had. Why?! BECAUSE SHARDING IS BUGGY TRASH THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED!
edit3: This video does NOT contain all attempts where I was sharded. Another video earlier on has a previous sharding. Two of them were simply the server sending me back to my own shard layer after I quit a group (all because of a raid issue, I think one of those is here), but it’s clear from how certain treasure spawns were back up that my group was sharded upon by Blizzard in this particular video at 1:13:28.
Your UI might make me want to rip my hair out, but you brought the receipts to show your work. This is ridiculous and the only time it happened to me, I stopped doing the event altogether afterwards.
I remember it happening a few times while following the tree in Emerald Dream or whatever it was called and getting sharded over to empty runs losing the progress.
What supremely pisses me off is that people on this messageboard have been defending sharding for the last 2 years, telling me I am lying about it breaking world quests and sharding entire groups. I have NO idea where this myth came from, but it needs to stop, now.
This happens frequently. I just didn’t get this pissed off again until last night.
I am CONSTANTLY getting sharded on by Blizzard in the middle of quests. Usually it doesn’t completely break the quest so I move on. But it also happens in groups, and it does happen during some sort of “world” event or quest or what have you.
It was over a week ago when it happened with a void incursion. EVERYONE in the area was screwed. It wasn’t a “huge” group and we were able to jump to a new void incursion thing pretty quickly, but it still frustrated us.
Is your server small? For instance, I wonder if being on like Moonguard makes this happen less?
I know sharding is there to reduce load, but…
It’s Hyjal. It shouldn’t be considered small. It’s more of a “population balancing issue” with how the server shoves people into a small shard - just enough that if a couple of people log off, the server then says “OOPS Guess I need to shard all over them again!”, and there’s NO WAY to force the server to transfer you to a different layer unless you have a friend who is playing and will group with you just to force the server to stick you on their shard. It used to be that you could group with someone on a high population layer and then quit the group and STAY on that sharding layer, but NOT ANYMORE you do that and you’re knocked back down to the BROKEN SHARD layer that the server WANTS you on.
It is broken. It is completely freaking broken and I am sick of it.
I am trying not to swear because I don’t want to be banned. It ticks me off that much. It disrupts my game that much.
What kills me is if one of my characters gets stuck on some sort of lower pop sharding cycle, I can hop onto another character for a few hours and not be on that same sharding layer, but if I go back to the character who was downgraded, they’re back there, at the bottom stuck in the worst sharding cycle until that layer expires and she’s reassigned.
I understand your frustration, especially if open world is your preferred content type. Like I said, it hasn’t happened to me that often, but I’m aware that it exists and how frustrating it is. With how long and tedious that event is, magically appearing in a parallel version of it without progress is definitely demoralizing.
Like I said, it only seems to really be noticed with a few types of quests, or when I’m mining nodes for a tradeskill…. but it has happened in places like Darkmoon Faire (which only seems to break the races). So, you know, usually it’s not an issue and I can recover.
Last night just had me fuming because I need to get that quest done on my character and it kept repeatedly happening. The quest aspect is why I left the raid group at the end of that video.
At the end of the day there is 0 excuse for Blizzard to ignore the issue. 0 excuse. It’s been going on for YEARS and it directly affects the player experience.
Server sharing is trash and your rage is valid.
You know how they could fix it?
Have an option menu that has these options:
“[O]ON [O]OFF Active Sharding On or Off (allows the server to actively transfer you from one shard to another after initial login during play).”
”[RE SHARD HIGHER] [RE SHARD LOWER] Pressing this button will search for the next higher or next lower population shard and re-shard you. You can only manually reshard once every 30 minutes.”
But this is a logical solution that increases the quality of life for players, and Blizzard has repeatedly shot this suggestion down - refusing to allow players the option to control when they can be re-sharded.
Yeah, I love poking fun and trolling too, but also don’t like to see valid complaints receive that treatment. This one is very valid.
