Separate subscriptions, please

...

Who are “they”? Most who do not have current bfa subs are the ones who lobbied for classic and are willing to pay a specific sub for it. It is current retail players who do not want to pay separatele additional cost for it.

Do you have some numbers on that? I've been subbed since vanilla, and have been asking for classic servers (as well as BC, and wrath), so I would really like to see the source you got the info stating most of the people wanting classic aren't currently subbed. Of course I don't want to pay a separate fee, because I plan on playing both. I can make asinine comments, too. Those who are currently unsubbed are the ones who want two separate subs.

You want to play 2 separate games, but you want to not have to pay for the second. Yup, you are correct. That is quite an asinine comment. A rather entitled comment to boot.

Of course people like myself who are not currently subbed want separate subs. Do you honestly question why we are not currently subbing to BFA? Do you imagine we did not play vanilla and a couple expensions before walking away from the growing dumpster fire?

I would have an ounce of respect for you if you simply stopped at “as a BFA player I feel I should not have to pay to play classic

Trying to be everything to everyone is what ruined the game.
Stay in BFA if you feel so hurt.

No thanks. Scurry back to your private servers if outsiders scare you. This isn't your game.

I see. It is clearly being built for BFA players.

Ever ask yourself why they redirect all classic discussion from GD to here?

I really don't give a !@#$ if BFA players come in here to try to ridicule Classic players.
I'm going to be too busy actually playing the game to see their whining.

The trolls are only part of the problem. You probably will give a !@#$ when the full server you started playing on drops to a low pop server after all of the retail trials quit. Even then, a good chunk of those left will be the retail players that only play casually after finishing their WQs in BFA.

Classic isn't a lobby game, playing on a dead server sucks.

Towards the end of Vanilla there were free servers transfers on a 6 month cooldown. I'm skeptical Blizzard will reintroduce this given the Retail character services shop, but I'm not terribly worried either. BFA tourists will thin out long before most people put any meaningful amount of time into a character.
.
I do not agree with this at all. If live players wanna try out classic they should.
$5 separate sub for classic is a good idea. It won't require continued development and upkeep is low. If people want to play both it's a cheap $20 a month. If you want to only play classic it's $5 a month.

Nothing would stop them from doing so more than it would stop anyone else.
Having a separate sub would force me to make a choice between the two. I don't want to be put in that situation.

No, it means I don't want to be punished monetarily for wanting to play both. I pay the six-month sub every time. I can't afford to do that twice per cycle.
As far as those thinking about dead servers this isn't 2004 technology servers have a bigger capacity also the ability to just add servers without adding realms. even for 1m player base they can handle that with less then a dozen servers if they want to as they can adjust the server compacity down the road. It also why I think at launch they wont have a hard cap on the servers for this reason they need to accommodate for the idea there will be people who will play and try and not want to continue I am sure once the population stables out they may put more stringent caps on realms.

I can only imagine your anxiety when at McDonalds looking at the menu board. They should probably allow you to eat everything as you like for the price of a cheeseburger.

What if you want to play D3? Should they toss that in as well?

Vanilla was designed around a population cap. When you raise that cap, you create problems. Mobs and resources have respawn times. Also, a big part of Vanilla was the community. We don't want CRZs.

The last fresh start I participated in was terrible. The server was running at almost 5x the original server cap. Questing was almost impossible because of competition for quest mobs. You pretty much had to camp a spawn point and fight for the tag. One quest that I remember was Washed Ashore in Darkshore. It was only like a 2 second respawn, but there were so many people trying to do it they actually formed a line. There was easily 50+ people in the line, and for every person that looted the item, another person showed up. I went back about an hour later and there was still a line for that quest.

The same server attempted to do dynamic spawns....which was a nightmare. When you have 100+ people in an area the respawns get out of control. It was impossible to complete the quest where you escort the Defias traitor because everything respawned as soon as it died. They eventually turned it off in that area, but I remember a group that was finally able to complete it saying they had been killing mobs for 2 hours.

Mega Servers are a big no from me.
I prefer separate subscriptions so they can differentiate the price. Sure, $1-5 of my sub money may go to server upkeep, but I don’t see why a huge part of my subscription money should go to develop a version of the game I’m not interested in playing.

So what if retail players also have to pay to access Classic? Why should it be free for retail players but not Classic players? Blizzard have no incentive to give a product away for free when there are people are willing to pay for it. They are not a charity.

Yeah, the population caps are an integral part of the Vanilla experience. They deliebrately chose 2-3k by design. They have no reason to change something so significant.
I would like a discounted only classic sub but I wont turn my nose at it coming bundled for free.

Heck no. If they make 2 separate subscriptions or make the subscription more expensive I'm out.

"Give it to me included in what I am already paying or so help me god I won't pay for it!"
This basically.
I am for a separate sub. $5 is probably about right for the cost of server maintenance. They do not need to pay for more content.

There IS the issue of a lot of players will just come, make one character, try it for maybe an hour or two, then leave. By paying, you will feel more committed and will probably try it longer.

There is also the fact that some players, like myself, refuse to support BfA because it is such a badly done expansion. The gameplay, story, and support are all bad.

I would gladly pay for Classic, but I question how many BfA players would want to pay for it since they seem to want to play as easy a game as possible. As I have said else where, given a hard dungeon in Timewalk, they fail. What I havent said, is that they always cry for it to be nerfed when the only thing hard about it is that it has mechanics you cannot ignore and you cannot just aoe down mobs mindlessly.

I don't care about having to purchase Classic (one-time fee) or not.

I don't really care what the subscription fee is; I'm pretty sure it's not going to be more than $15 for Classic.

But please, Blizzard, don't bundle Classic for free with Live. Some of us aren't interested in playing live, will never be interested in playing live, and would prefer the character names we wanted weren't grabbed by retail players who just wanted to poke their heads in and yell LOL WHY ARE YOU PLAYING AN OLD GAME WHAT"S WRONG WITH YOU!!!111?

Give Live players a discount if you want. Make paying for either Classic or Retail cost $15/month but paying for both of them cost only $20. Or make them entirely separate, such that paying for both of them costs $30. Or make Classic cheaper because it's not what you care about. Just don't offer Classic free with a Retail subscription.

I agree with this, what most people are not paying attention to is if Classic can stand on it's own two feet away from retail, this gives a bigger voice to Classic Gamers vs the casual retail crowd.

This will help with future expansions as to what should be done and what should not be done.

The extra $15 will only really affect those that want to play both retail and classic.
You can always make a bundle where it cost less to do both than classic.
