Sell me on Guardian

Thorns of Iron has a built in threat modifier. Best thing you can do is get an IF launched as soon as possible (assuming the mobs are stacked)

Prot warrior has a lot of little maintenance things and while it generally feels good it can wear on your hands until you find and settle into the rhythm. It is also initially significantly more rage starved and reliant than Guardian.
The main downsides to prot, in my eyes, are needing two ‘weapons’ and the minimum required actions per minute for on-level content being much much higher than guardian.

Guardian is a more relaxed experience and is generally has a more even ‘flow’ to your incoming damage Out of the box than all but Monk.
The main downsides of Guardian are that if you are min-maxing your dps you’ll spend a good amount of time in Cat form, which loses a lot of your Defensive power, and you don’t have the best tools to deal with Casters.

My personal order of preference for tanks (having done so on all of them in most forms of content at one point or another):

  1. Druid
  2. Monk
  3. Warrior
  4. DH
  5. DK
  6. Paladin

but the gap is incredibly small for all of them.

that’s a great list! I havn’t leveled all tanks (and even less at high mythic + levels) but I’d say my order is…

Warrior > Monk > Guardian(druid) > Paladin -

Easisest to play though is definitely Guardian

You can do a questline in Legion and become a glowing teddy bear.

Teddy bear is a bit untrue but it does glow though

Anyone know if you can tank mythics in PvP gear as guardian? I have full conquest gear that I plan to upgrade, I enjoy mostly pvping but would like to get into PvE content. Seems like the PvP gear already has great stats on it for guardian druid (versatility/mastery)

Not sure how PvP gear has been done this xpac or what ilvl it goes to but while vers/mast will prob get you through raid just fine, in dungeons haste is king, you want more haste than any other two stats combined

@Keljinn-thrall Thanks, I really appreciate the input! Saves me from having to upgrade my pvp gear. I guess I’ll grind some delves for pve starter gear

Yes. You will eventually need to replace it, but you’ll be fine starting out. Conquest gear is what? 636? You’ll be able to farm 6s in that easily enough to replace with Hero track gear (665 cap).

@Grizzle Ya I think it’s something around there (server is down right now so can’t confirm) My main goal is to, at some point down the road, unlock the purple variant of the avatar of ursol by completing a M+ 15 dungeon.

I’m suprised they didn’t change the requirement for this achievement. I did this, back when it was easier. Ever since the mythic + changes though, a mythic level 15 now is like around a mythic level (22?) from the old version.

Good luck with that, lol

I’m currently doing 10s pretty easily on my 637 guardian druid alt, Could probably reach a 12. and would be semi-comfy tanking mythic Liberation of Undermine with this ilvl.
(But I do know all of the dungeons well from my main prot warr tank).

Do you happen to know if the purple tint of Avatar of Ursol will still be unlocked even if I do a mythic 15 as feral or balance?

I don’t remember which weapon provided the glow bears, but from memory: As long as you could unlock a tint via specific achievement (meaning you have the base appearance) then it unlocks the additional tints across the board. This applies to all appearances except for the ‘base’ ones because the only way to open those is by actually unlocking that appearance line.

For example: Doing the Kill X enemies for the Hidden appearance as Enhancement unlocks that tint for the Resto and Elemental’s equivalents.

It doesn’t matter the spec you’re in, just complete it after the form is unlocked in base form.

Great, thanks! @Latsyrc @Plagiarist

I tried all tanks this season. Bear is my fav. Playing bear vs other tanks is like driving a auto-pilotted car vs manual car. Bear barely has maintained buffs to track, thrash, moonfire, iron thorn are so good for pulling and agro control. With 5 powerful cds and 3 of them are very short, it’s easy to manage cds. Self heal is solid on top of the revamped regen, which is solid and packed with a 5s +20% healing received increase. Downside is its cc toolkit sucks.

That and initial agro. Paladins can toss a shield and grap everyone’s attention, warrior has their shouts. Ravage seems intended to help, but only for DotC.

We used to have a large growl that stunned a chunk of mobs. Would be nice to get that back.

Shield is 5 target hard capped unless you have 1 min divine toll, but still capped. Warrior has 45s thunderous roar. Bear has 20+s lunar beam. The main difference is that lunar beam continously pulls agro from the whole area for the entire 11s because of its dmg and healing while divine toll and thunderous roar either hit or miss at the moment you cast and since they only do dmg, they don’t generate agro from mobs that those abilities don’t hit.
Moreover, thrash is your main both resource generator and 360 degree AoE dmg. While warrior has main resource generator as Shield Slam, a ST ability, and technically the worst in game range pull tool. Paladin has frontal AoE SoR, a resource spender on top of the conditional positioning for consec. Bear is way smoother than war and paladin in pulling.
